33 years after newlywed Karen Norton, 23, was killed in her home in an apparent burglary, cold case detectives in Maryland have charged her husband John Norton, 57, with the murder.

More than 33 years after the murder of Karen Ann Norton during what was believed to be a burglary at the time, a Grand Jury has indicted her then-husband, John Joseph Norton, on first degree murder charges.

The case went cold following the initial investigation into her murder in her home in the 100 block of Delrey Avenue in Catonsville on December 17, 1985. Karen Norton was just 23 years old when she suffered a fatal stab wound to the upper body shortly after returning home from work that evening.

The initial investigation led police to believe that she was killed by an unknown suspect during a burglary, but as the case has continued to be worked by detectives through the years they began to narrow in on her husband, John Norton, as the primary suspect.

Recent developments in the case have uncovered new evidence that further supported that theory, and the case was brought before the Grand Jury on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

After hearing the evidence, an indictment was issued and detectives served Norton with a warrant for his arrest that evening. Norton now remains held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center pending trial.

Visit the Baltimore CountyΒ Unsolved Homicide CasesΒ web page for information regarding other cold cases.

According to local court records he went on to remarry at least 2x. He is currently married from the looks of it and was living in a pretty nice area.

I've been listening to a German podcast called Wahre Verbrechen for the last few weeks. I'm not usually that interested in crime stories, but some of the cases were simply unbelievable. So, I thought it would be interesting to hear about the most famous cases in your country's history.

>ATLANTA, GA β€” Atlanta police will reopen and reexamine unsolved killings in the infamous β€œAtlanta child murders” that plagued the city from 1979 to 1981.

The operation will be a joint effort between the Atlanta Police Department, Fulton County, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

In 1977, at least 3 people in Japan fell victim to cyanide-laced Coca-Cola, years before the Chicago Tylenol murders, the Monster with 21 Faces, and the Paraquat murders. The culprit was never caught. Could this case be related to those other cases?

5 years before the Chicago Tylenol murders, 7 years before the Monster with 21 Faces, and 8 years before the Paraquat murders (aka the Japanese Vending Machine murders), there was a lesser-known crime that shared striking similarities with all 3 of the above. I couldn't find any English language sources on this case, but did find a Japanese Wikipedia page on it, which I've translated below to the best of my ability.

I'd like to hear people's thoughts on whether it might have inspired, or maybe even been committed by, the culprit(s) of the Chicago Tylenol/21 Faces/Paraquat murder cases.

Translated (by me) from Japanese Wikipedia:

From Jan. 4 to mid-February of 1977, random killings occurred in Tokyo and Osaka where people died after drinking Coca-Cola laced with sodium cyanide. The police never had a prime suspect, and the statute of limitations for these cases unfortunately ran out in 1992.

First Case (Tokyo)

At around 11:30am on Jan. 3, 1977, a male high school student picked up a sealed bottle of Coke that was left on top of a public payphone near Shinagawa Station on his way home from his part-time job. After drinking it at around 1am the following morning, the student realized the taste was weird and immediately spit out the drink and tried to wash his mouth with running water, but he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where they pumped his stomach, but he unfortunately passed away. The cause of death was later determined to be cyanide poisoning.

Second Case (Tokyo)

At 8:15 am the same morning about 600 meters north of where the student picked up the bottle of Coke, the collapsed body of a 46-year-old man was discovered. He was confirmed dead at the hospital, with cause of death also being cyanide poisoning. Near his body was a can of Coke, which tested positive for cyanide.

Case 2.5

The police conducted a search of the Shinagawa area, and discovered that a 15-year-old boy had found a bottle of Coke left near the phone of the store his family owned. He was planning to drink it later, but was deterred after police stopped by while investigating the other cases. The bottle was later found to also contain cyanide.

Third Case (Osaka)

At 6:20 am on Feb. 13 a month later, a 39-year-old man discovered a full can of Coke left on the public payphone at the store in which he stopped to buy cigarettes, and became unconscious after drinking it. The Coke contained cyanide. The man was saved at the hospital, but he later committed

Kate Bushell: 14 year old was found with her throat cut just yards from her home. 20 years later, the case is still unsolved. [Unresolved Murder]

Hi everyone. I'm a long time lurker but first time poster. This is a horrific and tragic murder case from my native U.K. A teenager was brutally murdered just yards from her home in November of 1997, and 20 years on the case is still unsolved. Kate's family and friends are desperate to get justice for her.

THE CASE:

On Saturday the 15th of November 1997, at 7:30pm, the body of 14 year old Kate Bushell was found in a field in the village of Exwick, Devon, England. She had been killed by a single 'catastrophic' knife wound to the throat: an injury described by Senior Investigating Officer Paul Burgan as "the worst I'd ever seen in 30 years of policing". It was inflicted by a blade that was at least six inches long, not the kind of weapon one would be expected to carry around a quiet English village like Exwick. No source I've found makes any mention of sexual assault or any other injuries, so I'll assume there were none, although her clothes had been 'disturbed'. Perhaps the most tragic part of this case is that her body was discovered by her own father, who had been out searching for her after the teenager had failed to return home from walking a neighbour's dog. I cannot even imagine. :(

https://news.sky.com/story/kate-bushell-murder-hunt-for-schoolgirls-killer-20-years-on-11115978 <--- News article outlining the case. It also makes mention of a 1998 murder that is eerily similar to Kate's and may in fact be linked.

TIMELINE:

https://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/news/kate-bushell-investigation/ <--- Timeline produced by Devon and Cornwall Police. It's pretty detailed and contains a lot of info that I will briefly outline below. It also includes videos of the crime scene and information about the investigation so I highly recommend reading the page in full.

At around 4:30pm Kate set off from her home in Burrator Drive to walk a neighbour's dog, Gemma.

She was last seen alive at around 4:50pm. Witnesses remember seeing Kate and Gemma walking down Exwick Lane. They ALSO remember seeing a blue car parked in a nearby layby (for non-UK residents, a 'layby' is a paved area on the side of a road where cars can stop, either in emergencies or for drivers to take a break/look at a map ect). A man, described as being white, between 30-40 years old, of average height and build, with dark collar length hair, was stood next to it. Five minutes later, a young couple drove the same route and saw the same car. However, this time the man was gone. The

The Poisoned Soup Murder: who poisoned 26 years old Francesca Moretti on February 22nd 2000? An Italian cold case.

Hello everyone, this is my first write up in this subreddit (actually my first write up on Reddit). I just wanted to share with you this case that I happened to discover some days ago and that sent me in a quite deep rabbit hole. I couldn't find any English source, only in Italian, that's why this write up is a lil bit long: i tried to summarize every aspect of the case and leave no detail out. Sorry for any typo or grammar error, English is not my first language πŸ™ƒ

THE BACKGROUND

We are in 1999. Francesca Moretti is a 26-year-old girl from Pesaro, whoΒ  graduates in sociology and then moves to Rome, where she lives in the San Lorenzo district. Here she shares an apartment with Daniela Stuto, a psychology student, and Mirela Nistor, a waitress of Romanian origin. She works as a cooperator in the β€œCasilino 900” nomad camp, where she mainly takes care of Roma children, helping them with everything related to their education. During this working experience she's introduced to Graziano Halilovic, son of Vajro Halilovic (leader of the Roma community in the camp). The two fall in love, starting a very deep relationship, which leads them to develop the idea of going to live together elsewhere, precisely in Turin, where Graziano has relatives who can host them. There is only one problem: Graziano is already married to a Roma woman from the camp, Fatima, and he is the father of 5 children. Polygamy is tolerated in the Roma communities, but despite this Fatima, having learned of the relationship between the two, manages to obtain Francesca's phone number and calls the girl threatening her. Graziano, for his part, reassures Francesca, telling her that she has nothing to fear because as long as there is Vajro, who knew Francesca and was in favor of her engagement with his son, no one will ever harm her. Despite this, perhaps overwhelmed by doubts and fears, as well as by the responsibility of having to look after 5 children and being the designated heir of his father Vajro, Graziano postpones his departure several times, so much that Francesca resigns herself to returning to live in Pesaro with her mother. On February 21, 2000, Vajro Halilovic dies of a heart attack.

THE DEATH

Francesca had started to feel bad on February 18th, 2000, accusing a strong back pain, so strong that she was blocked in bed and couldn't move her leg. Her doctor diagnoses her with lumbosciatica, prescribing painkillers and anti-inflammatories. After an initial improvement, the g

Camden NJ- My birth mother was murdered going to meet someone with information about who adopted me. Cold Case.

My name is Meredith. I just found my birth father and half-siblings. They told me my birth mother was found murdered in the early 90s after telling him she was going to meet someone at a Camden motel who had information about my adopted family. It had been a closed adoption. Unless my half sister can find her copy of the news article, we dont even have the exact date, let alone location. She was strangled to death, and there were rumors in town that a cop killed her. My adoptive uncle happened to be a detective in the neighboring town at the time. For obvious reasons we dont want to go right to the police to request the case reopened. We want to compile as many facts as possible on our own first. I dont have a relationship with that uncle or my adoptive mother anymore. Not that id trust them to admit to murder anyway. Where do i start?

Cases where you believe the murder/disappearance was committed by someone known to the victim?

Inspired by an earlier post asking the opposite question, this is a thread for those who believe that a suspected stranger abduction/murder was caused by someone known to the victim.

Here's mine:

Kristen Modafferi, missing from San Francisco, CA after leaving her job at a coffee shop. She was allegedly last seen in the company of a blonde woman and much was made of the missing's personal ad seeking local activity partners (Kristen was an AP student from North Carolina living in Oakland for the summer of 1997 prior to starting college). A small-time hustler and con artist named Jon Onuma injected himself into the investigation with a series of trolling letters and, along with his then-girlfriend, fell quickly under suspicion. Later investigations posited Robert Durst as a possible person-of-interest.

However, a cadaver dog search of the rental property Kristen was living in yielded a positive hit for human remains in the basement. This would indicate a killer much closer to home - either someone Kristen knew well enough to let into her house (which is implausible, given that she didn't know anyone locally at the time) or, more likely, one of her male roommates.

What's yours?
