Quick Impressions of Ghost Ship sample pack fragrances: Ghost of Poe, Mt. Elgon, Night at the Museum, Seven Gables, Duneland, 1893. I tested these pretty quickly in sequence. The three I re-tested later to see if I still felt the same were Night at The Museum, Seven Gables, Mt Elgon, and 1893. This is my first attempt at reviewing through all the stages of application.
Ghost of Poe (gloomy marriage of old books, cabernet, fresh earth, birch fire, mahogany and clove)
Out of the bottle – Interesting. The cabernet and other notes float around, but I smell a lot of clove.
Wet: SO MUCH CLOVE AND DIRT!
Dry: The other notes are faintly there, but I amp the clove and fresh dirt like crazy. I would’ve liked to have caught some old books or fire, but nope. Spicy dirt all the way!

Mt Elgon (Asali Hills coffee beans married with notes of sunflower, baobab, golden sands, coconut and mango)
Out of the bottle: Coffeeeeeeee
Wet: Coffeeeeeeeee! Sweet, slightly perfumey, cream-and-sugar coffee. Kind of gourmand. Nice! I only tried one other coffee scent and didn’t like it, so I almost vowed no more coffee scents. Glad I didn’t.
Dry: this went through its notes fast! At first it was a really lovely soft coffee, then it sweetens into a bit of floral (maybe the sunflower or the baobab), and finally it’s a coconut and mango, almost like it’s reading its own scent notes. Mango is mellowed by the coconut and so it’s approachable and not too fruity. I just wish it didn’t flash through its scent notes so fast. It wears close to the skin, but it’s very pleasant. Like having coffee at a tropical island resort. It’s light and very approachable, but not the strongest throw. I don’t have anything similar.

Night at the Museum: (library, smoke, teakwood, ginger and Egyptian musk)
Out of the bottle: kind of masculine, and maybe teakwood is strongest. Is that fresh ginger, or is that what their smoke note smells like?
Wet: This smells like a lawnmower that’s just run over a patch of dandelions and has all that oil and crud stuck up under it. How can I not pick out which note is doing it? I think smelling all of these has broken my nose…
Dry: It’s like a sharp men’s cologne with a bitter note that reminds me of crushed dandelion stems. The notes sounded SO perfect for me, but this is not pleasant. I bought a second one in the swaps before it got here… what was I thinking?

Short story: I am looking for beans from Uganda, specifically Sipi Falls/Mt Elgon/Kween/Kapchorwa. Is there a reputable company/site to get Uganda beans? Prefer whole.

Long story: I like coffee. I am not a connoisseur to the level that y'all are. I use a french press at home. I was recently in Uganda in the Kapchorwa/Mt Elgon region with an American team working in a village to build footbridges. During a weekend, we took a day trip to Sipi Falls and hiked among banana fields and coffee fields to reach a few spectacular waterfalls. On our way back we stopped at a local coffee farmer/producer and had the opportunity to remove the chaff, roast, and grind beans in his courtyard and drink the smoothest coffee of my life on a blistering humid day. It was incredible.
Our group bought all of his coffee that day. We had planned to buy more coffee but the 'Rona craziness had struck and our travel plans became very fluid as we scrambled to finish our bridges and get back to the States. We all strongly desire a tangible memory of our time and we want more Uganda coffee but it doesn't seem to be a very common varietal here in the States. I'm also keenly aware of the challenges of Uganda customs for shipping (it was an act of God and grease to get a pallet of tools into the country) but am hopeful you all know where to look!
