With no internet and mobile phone services in Kashmir for over 40 days now, journalists in the Valley have been hard-pressed as a make-shift media centre set up here by the government continues to be the only connection for many with the rest of the world.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 76%. (I'm a bot)

> With no internet and mobile services in Kashmir for over 40 days now, journalists in the Valley have been hard-pressed as a make-shift media centre set up here by the government continues to be the only connection for many with the rest of the world.

> During the first few days after the restrictions were imposed, the journalists could not file any stories except for the TV reports using the channels' outdoor broadcast vans here.

> Most media organisations, especially TV channels, sent journalists from Delhi to the Valley as their reporters were incommunicado.

> "One often had to wait for more than half-an-hour to get a system. Then the speed was so irritating that the email would take ages to open," Firdous Ahmad, a local journalist, told PTI. Journalists have to register themselves before making a call from the cell phone and more often than not, the waiting period would stretch for hours because of the rush.

> Since the communication blockade, the Club has taken up the issue with the government authorities on several occasions, urging them to restore mobile phones and internet to journalists and media outlets including newspapers and also the Club itself, the KPC said.

> The body has demanded restoration of internet and mobile facilities to journalists and media outlets in the Valley.

Save literally half on your cell phone bill and receive the exact same service (same cell towers as Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile). Ditch the big four cell phone providers, they're a rip-off!

I signed up for a Total Wireless family plan and I pay $85 a month now for three lines instead of the $185+ I used to pay Verizon. The best part is that the service is identical! Total Wireless uses ALL of Verizon's cell phone towers. I also use the same iPhones I was using on my Verizon family plan and I carried over the same cell phone numbers from all three lines for free.

I hope everyone who reads this ends up saving as much as I currently am because the amount of money the big four cell phone companies charge monthly is ridiculous and nobody should be getting ripped off to that extent. If you're on the fence about switching to one of the discount carriers, do yourself a favor and just do it. You'll notice absolutely no difference in service and you'll save enough money to buy a brand new iPhone each year plus have a fat stack of $20 dollar bills left over.

Let me know if you make the switch!

P.s. I've been using Total Wireless now for around 4 months and I've had ZERO issues with my service.

Pps: Please let me know if you switched recently from one of the big 4 wireless providers and which discount provider you went with. Also, can you tell any difference at all in the service? My Total Wireless service has been identical to my Verizon service as far as I can tell so I want to know if anyone else has had any issues. Thanks!

Edit: Let me know in the comments if you want me to post a link to an article I wrote that goes over some of the best discount cell phone providers, the networks they use, and how much their plans cost. For now, I don't wanna seem spammy :) But I'd be more than happy to post the link if there's interest.

The tablet actually seems like a better AR device than the mobile phone. Thoughts?

Right now with no AR Cloud it's not like I'm going to randomly pull my phone out to explore some cool AR concept. It's either functional (ruler, room mapping), or games/activities/experiences that I would probably enjoy more with a bigger screen of a tablet, given that both the phone and tablet require your hands anyway.

Had to put this in AskUK as not sure if this happened anywhere else. Remember when a mobile phone would ring and if it was near a radio or speaker it made that weird electronic noise? That doesn’t happen any more, I haven’t heard it for years . Why did it do it and why has it stopped?

I can’t describe the noise but I’m sure you all know what I mean! Is it down to shielding on phones or frequency changes or reduction in something?

Going to switch over to the AT&T $40 hotspot plan, but what is the best prepaid family plan for 2 voice/text lines? Or should we just get two individual lines?

And yes, AT&T is the best provider in my area. Verizon just setup shop few months ago though so maybe Visible would be good?

Delhi cuts mobile phone services as India protests rage nationwide

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 72%. (I'm a bot)

> NEW DELHI: Indian authorities cut cellphone access in parts of Delhi on Thursday and fresh violence erupted elsewhere, as thousands of protestors nationwide defied bans on assembly in growing anger at a new citizenship law seen as anti-Muslim.

> The new law eases citizenship rules for people fleeing persecution from three neighbouring countries, but excludes Muslims, stoking accusations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to reshape India as a Hindu nation and creating unease abroad.READ: Defiant Indians protest nationwide against citizenship lawREAD: India protests rage against citizenship law, but Modi defiant.

> Seven months after Modi swept to a second term, India has seen a week of protests in which four people were shot dead, dozens injured and hundreds arrested, while authorities have banned gatherings in areas that together are home to hundreds of millions of people.

> Delhi police spokesman M S Randhawa told AFP that "People should seek permission to assemble at places" where the ban is not in place.

> Kawalpreet Kaur, Delhi President of the All India Students' Association, tweeted that police had filled 14 buses with detainees at the Red Fort landmark in Delhi.

> The protests have been fuelled by anger about alleged police brutality including at a university in Delhi on Sunday night.
