Miguel de Cervantes (author of Don Quixote)...
was a naval officer who while sailing aboard his ship "Sol" was captured and imprisoned as a PoW for 5 years. Wondering if anyone who has read / studied " The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha " have noticed any more allusions to the work beyond "Rocinate", "the self-romanticized white knight", and "tilting at windmills."
Thinking I'm going to read it next now that I'm done LF.

Earlier this year I was gifted these two books. They are parts 1 and 2 of the Don Quixote novel by Miguel de Cervantes. Iβve no idea the year they were published just that theyβre big and heavy books. Rather worn but beautiful none the less.

[POEM] "Time is Brief" by Miguel de Cervantes
Time is brief,
anxieties grow,
hopes diminish,
and yet my desire to live
keeps me alive.

I thought we could all use a palate cleanser so here's an excerpt from Marcella's speech in Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote, chapter 14
"You all say that heaven made me beautiful, so much so that this beauty of mine, with a force you canβt resist, makes you love me; and you say and even demand that, in return for the love you show me, I must love you. By the natural understanding which God has granted me I know that whatever is beautiful is lovable; but I canβt conceive why, for this reason alone, a woman whoβs loved for her beauty should be obliged to love whoever loves her. Whatβs more, it could happen that the lover of beauty is ugly, and since that which is ugly is loathsome, it isnβt very fitting for him to say: βI love you because youβre beautiful; you must love me even though Iβm ugly.β
Why do you think I should be obliged to give in to you, just because you say you love me dearly? Or else tell me this: if heaven had made me ugly instead of beautiful, would I have been right to complain about you for not loving me? I was born free, and to live free I chose the solitude of the countrysideβ¦I have never given any hope to GrisΓ³stomo or fulfilled any manβs desires, so it can truly be said of all of them that they were killed by their own obstinacy rather than by my cruelty."
