A list of puns related to "Manhattan Club (social club)"
Hey, I'm moving to Manhattan in July and don't know a lot of people there. I really love running, and was wondering if anyone's had luck making friends or meeting people through their running club? Which clubs have you found are the most welcoming?
In particular, has anyone had positive experiences with the dashing whippets or BKTC?
The decline of the mega clubs was largely due to real estate prices soaring. With covid causing such an exodus from Manhattan and so much empty space I am curious if a new era of mega clubs will ever be possible.
There were many Manhattan crews in the past idk if there are as many today as there once was.
Just wondering because I found out about them recently and was a bit confused lol. Is it true they started acting like gangs? I would hate to wear my cute lil disney vest and be confused for one (I do have tattoosπ )
Going clubbing is just not what it's hyped up to be for me. Long ass wait line, drinks are always so expensive, you can barely hear shit, and once you're past the age of 25 it's seen as odd if you're there, I don't know, to me the whole notion of clubbing seems tiring and just so tedious. I've been twice and both times I felt like "Is this it? Is this all there is?"
Edit: WHAT IS A SEAL?!
Hey All,
I've been reading/watching lectures on critical theory and philosophy for the past few years with zeal, and while reading and pondering on my own is enjoyable in its own right, I feel I am missing some social component of it as well as the critique and learning experiences you really only get when talking it out with other folks.
I've considered grad school for this reason, among others, but financially it doesn't make sense for me, and I've been out of formal academia for long enough that finding recommenders would be quite difficult. That said, I was listening to a Plastic Pills podcast a while back where the guys were talking about spaces alternate to academia that would potentially resolve some of the structural issues with it, and it got me thinking about what some of these spaces could beβdiscord servers, meetups, etc sure. But also social clubs or some kind of "professional associations" that aren't inherently academia connected.
For me personally, I find discord servers to be wildly overwhelming most of the time, and all the smaller private ones I've joined always seem to peeter out pretty quick. I haven't found much in the way of meetup groups immediately local to me, and when I lived in NYC, the groups I went to always seemed to be focused on politics and elections to the expense of theory (i.e. various groups within the DSA or whateverβobviously their mission isn't really theoretical) or catering to people who were interested in CT/Philosophy/Politics but hadn't read much and were mostly exploring interests. This feels somewhat elitist (and mildly hypocritical since I personally don't have a higher ed degree in any of this either) though I don't mean it to be, but I guess I'm looking for something a bit more serious that mimics to some degree the social situation and rigor of academia without the price-tag or baggage. Maybe there are public lectures, or groups that bring in professional theorists to give talks to the group? Various leftist political parties/presses do talks as well, but mostly online from what I can find, which limits the social aspect that I'm looking for. I found The New Center of Research & Practice, which looks close to the kind of thing I'm thinking about, and I'm considering taking classes/doing a certificate with them. But wondering also about other options that aren't necessarily as formal as that too, and even they are still primarily online.
So yeah, kind of a shot in the dark to see what sticks. I'm o

Jeremy posted a 2 minute long IGTV video. It was from the book club meeting where they were talking to his parents. I'm not sure why the quality is so bad, but we're gonna just roll with it.
Apparently they did a lot of the editing grammar wise lol
You can watch it here if you want.
