A list of puns related to "Mame (film)"
I'd like to have this thread so we can gather information about them and why they exist, or what's their use in current day, if there is a reason to use them at all.
So what are the old versions/romsets? The most common ones i see in circulation and used in most arcade setups are 0.37 (MAME 2000), 0.78 (MAME 2003) and 0.139 (MAME 2010). If you ever downloaded a pre-made Pi setup, chances are it had the 0.78 romset in it. These sets are also supported by some common MAME android ports and libretro cores.
As you can see by the years of release the numbers represent, the most recent one of these is already more than a decade old. The older one (0.37) is so old, MAME was only 3 years old when it was released. That's like how old Yuzu is right now. Or, if you want your mind to be blown, 0.37 is as old as Pac-Man was when that version was released in 2000. Yeah, that MAME version is basically Retro by itself.
The only reason they are maintained is so they can run on tin cans. Like, some Raspberry device or very old smartphones. I still have version 0.78 on my old modded XBOX and Wii softmoded machine. IIRC, 0.37 only ever chosen as an alternative because that version of MAME was the last one that could run midway games like Mortal Kombat and NBA JAM at full speed on the XBOX. I think after that version there was an update that made these games slow for that machine. But correct me if i'm wrong. Point is, the XBOX was the most popular non-PC emulation machine back in the day so the scene was targeting that.
0.139 is a common version used in smartphones because the android port (MAME4droid) uses that romset. Not sure why this version was picked. I assume it targets your average mid-range phone. Or maybe that was the current version when that port was made? Now these are more powerful than the Pi, XBOX and Wii but not nearly as powerful as your typical mid-range PC or 1000$ flagship phone. So you could say it's like a "balanced" version.
Basically, this whole thing is a compromise between accuracy/compatibility and speed. The older the version is, the less accurate/more buggy it will be but also faster, if you really need to use a weak device. So your best bet is always use the most recent version your machine can handle. Hopefully, this is your common, average PC most of the time so you can use the current version instead of an obsolete one.
IMO, if you are really serious about emulation/preservation, you should put accuracy/compatibility on top of performa

The purpose of this feature is two-fold, thus, the two titles.
The only hitch to this is I will often recommend films which are available, but you will have to pay a little to see them on Amazon or YouTube, etc. All I can say is, if you pay a small amount of money to see a film which is entertaining even decades after it was made, I'd say you made a good bargain.

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
This month's movie offering is Auntie Mame. This film is based on a Broadway play which was based on the autobiographical novel by Patrick Dennis. It tells the story of a newly orphaned, 9 year-old boy who is abruptly left on the doorstep of his Auntie Mame, a woman who has never been married, had kids, or any major responsibilities. She has spent her entire life enjoying herself and partying in her amazing Manhattan apartment with her usual gang of the rich and famous.

Hello Everyone, this is a minor Update to Hot Fix a few things that were brought to my attention by some of you, regarding latest Release! As always, I greatly appreciate any and all feedback, especially when it helps get things fixed up faster!
Latest WandaVision, quite interesting. I sorta peeked a little into the "Comic Arc" that the series is based on. And, hot damned, it is gonna be potentially a crazy trip! Otherwise, I am a fan of Walton Goggins of Shield, Justified fame. I decided to give his "sitcom" show, Unicorn, a go. And, despite some bad IMDB reviews, he still carries the show! I have always enjoyed goofy sitcoms, in general. Going way back to the earliest days of Simpsons, I liked shows like Herman's Head and Get a Life! Get a Life, particularly, had some insanely oddball plotlines, such as the main character, a 30ish year old paperboy, who still lives at home with his parents...finding an Alien. And, he tries to "relive" the awesomeness of ET with said Alien. But, things get a tad bit out of hand! Try looking up a clip of Get a Life to see just what I mean! Also, huge fan of Sledge Hammer (parody of Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry movies!). In any case, a few bullet points relative to this Hot Fix Update!!!
Decompression Fix for some Cores on MD/SNES/NES!
Some of you who have been with us since the earlier NES Classic days, pre USB-HOST, would remember how annoying it was to contend with limited space on NAND internal flash memory! Madmonkey made it possible for us to compress Cores down to 75 percent smaller in size. These currently decompress upon active usage, leaving you with way more NAND space! I got a little feedback that some Cores were "failing to be opened", not loading content. So, I did some fix ups, and am reposting these, such as Gambatte, CPS1, CPS2, Stella. So, if you ran into any issues, please redownload the problem Cores from Hakchi, Modules, KMFD Mod Hub, and then reinstall via Modules Tab! Note: I have retained the dates for ALL Cores as 02-24-21, to keep things aligned and uniform. You will see the MOTD say 0
... keep reading on reddit ➡MAME 0.231, our April release, is out now! The Yamaha FM synthesis rewrite is progressing, with the OPL family (including YM2413, YM3526, YM3812, YMF262 and Y8950) done this month. A number of regressions reported against the previous release have also been fixed. Most things should be improved, but if you notice something wrong with a system using one of these chips, be sure to let us know. Warp-1, a very rare Sun Electronics game from the late ’70s, has been added this month. This is an early example of an “into the screen” space shooter.
For as long as it has been emulated, the “3D” stages in Contra have been too easy. This comes down to the functionality of the Konami 007452 chip, which Konami calls a VRC&DMP. Now we know that VRC stands for Virtual ROM Controller, and controls ROM banking. However, the DMP part has been more of a mystery, assumed to be some kind of protection. This month, furrtek worked out that it’s apparently some kind of Divide/Multiply Processor, for 16-bit maths operations that would be unacceptably slow on the games’s pair of 6809-family CPUs. The great news is the game now runs correctly, the bad news is you’ll probably die a lot more.
David “Haze” Haywood is back this month with fixes for several arcade games that have never been quite right. He’s fixed graphical priority issues in SNK’s Beast Busters and Mechanized Attack, improved timing in Seibu Kaihatsu’s Shot Rider, and corrected layer offsets in Mitchell’s Funky Jet. He also added support for a couple of protected Mega Drive bootleg games from Argentina. Recently, David has been streaming MAME gaming sessions, often highlighting under-appreciated games. You can watch the recorded streams on his YouTube channel. Still on the topic of things that have never been right, sasuke has been busy this month. He’s improved the Nichibutsu 1412M2 DAC playback rate and timer period calculation, most noticeable on the Mighty Guy soundtrack, and made Taito’s unicycling game Cycle Maabou playable.
That’s all we’ve got time for here, but you can read about all the additions, bug fixes, and enhancements in the whatsnew.txt file. As always, the source and 64-bit Windows binary packages are available from the download page.

... keep reading on reddit ➡Hi all! I've recently been introduced to bls and watched TharnType as my first ThaiBL. I loved the show and ended up reading the novels, deep-diving into MewGulf's socials as well as Mame's. I have a few thoughts about Mame that I wanted to see if anyone felt the same way or similarly. I've tried to mark everything as spoilers but if I miss something please let me know and I'll fix it. I'm still new to reddit and don't know what counts as a spoiler.
Something that made me a bit suspicious of her was her consistent r@pe theme in her books. Also, the fact that >!all her characters always become gay!<. It's my understanding that both of those tropes are extremely common among all of her writing. The r@pe one especially is odd to me.. I don't think those actions should be used as a major point to the story especially not as the means to get together with someone.
Although toxic relationships can be fun to watch, I was increasingly frustrated by the utter lack of communication and just general weird behavior. To be completely honest I almost stopped watching after the first couple of episodes because Tharn was feeling a bit predatory to me. To me, their relationship especially knowing Type's background doesn't make sense bc of how forceful Tharn is in the beginning. It's hard for me to believe that someone with that background would respond positively to Tharns advances. In the books especially the sxx scenes are kinda forceful (?) like Type is constantly complaining about how much it hurts and that they shouldn't mess around if he has something to do the next day bc he will be in too much pain. We can kinda see that in SS2 ep11 pt 4 when >!Type says "Hurry up and do what you have to" to which Tharn replies "Today I want to be gentle to you."!< Obviously, the show has drastically toned down the sxx but you can still see little hints of the book's original scenes. I also watched "differences between TT and the books" on youtube which really goes into details to point out the bts of certain scenes as well as the thought process of each character at the time. If you haven't seen those on yt I highly recommend them because they helped me understand the characters so much more as well as fill in the gaps for some scenes. Since the books are like 60 chapters long those videos really helped.
As a queer trans guy it's great to see other queer relationships on screen, but after seeing how Mame films the boys off-screen it made me feel a bit icky and like
... keep reading on reddit ➡Per the FAQ:
> Games with 3D graphics. As of this writing, MAME does not pass polygons down to the video card of your system; instead, it renders all 3D graphics by hand in software.
But most arcade engines from the mid 90's on used 3D hardware, and as MAME is about preservation, wouldn't translating the original game's 3D API through OpenGL be a more accurate representation of the system?
Certainly, I know for a fact so many of those early 3D chipsets by 3Dfx and PowerVR made it into some arcade cabinets, and their APIs were based on OpenGL. Anyway, I'm not trying to kick up a argument with MAME preservation purists, just wondering if emulating the 3D hardware with modern 3D APIs would be more accurate or not.
furrtek fixed one of the long standing emulation bugs for Konami's arcade game 'Contra' in MAME.
This bug meant the game logic in Contra under MAME had never been correct, the ‘3D’ stages of the game were far too easy, with all mines, and the majority of the bullets being shot at you veering off to the right rather than coming down the screen towards you, thus requiring no effort to avoid. In reality Contra should have been considered a non-working game this whole time, because the gameplay logic was broken.
I’ve covered this bugfix, demonstrating both the ‘before’ and ‘after’ behaviour at the start of one of my recent livestreams, you can watch the coverage at https://youtu.be/awHTp6hYXcI
This fix will be in the next MAME version (0.231) which is set to be released on the last Wednesday of the month.
The bugfix Pull Request on MAME’s Github (which has been merged) can be seen at https://github.com/mamedev/mame/pull/7951
Interestingly pretty much all the releases of Contra that utilize emulation have also got this wrong, in many cases because they’re obviously just bootlegging old versions of MAME (for example the Hamster release on the PS2, and very likely the recent My Arcade release, as we’ve seen them using unlicensed versions of MAME for other products)
The bug with the stray sprites after the continue counter (if you continue on a ‘10’) remain, that’s another issue that will have to be resolved one day, but it’s less critical as it doesn’t affect the gameplay like this one.
I left the MAME scene then came back and found he's been gone for many years.
Anybody knows why? Back in the late 90s he changed the emu scene forever, seems strange he's completely left the most famous emulator in the world...Thanks to anyone who can help me on this.

Strange issue: MAME crashes with ACCESS VIOLATION from .228 onwards. Only on some roms (First noticed it on BadDudes - all DECO roms crash, Mortal Kombat also crashes. If I try with .227 no problem at all. Tried with completely new install, cleared NVRAM of games, Cleared .cfg files too. Anyone have any ideas??
Converted my bar into a half bar/ half arcade, running mame like no ones business, with a cold beer in my hand 😄 https://youtu.be/Nf-Db8wAlSA
Aquí la mía: estábamos en el recreo y una tipa mayor que yo me tiro por accidente la comida, yo lo malinterprete y pensé que lo había hecho a propósito y me enojé con ella y le di un buen madrazo en la cara, me llevaron a dirección. No me arrepiento.
As seems to often be the case these days, I covered this at the start of a livestream before looking at random other bits and pieces https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFfaUyB19WY
Thanks go to Dillweed, Osso, and hap for their work on dumping and emulating this one. It's an early crosshair based space shooter with an 'into the screen' starfield. Previously I think there were only some low resolution static screenshots of this about; always good to finally be able to see such early material in action. No sound hardware emulation at the moment as it's likely all discrete electronics.
Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for MAME 0.230! There are big changes this month, but before we get to that, let’s highlight some of the more routine additions. Several TV games featuring adaptations of popular Hasbro board games are now supported, as well as a couple of VTech systems featuring Dora the Explorer. Several electronic toys and handheld LED game from Mattel and Invicta have been emulated this month. There’s a big update for the Apple II software lists this month, with clean cracks of lots of educational software from MECC.
If you’ve been following along with development, you’re no doubt excited about the new Yamaha OPM/OPN (YM2151, YM2203, YM2608, YM2610, YM2610B, YM2612, and YM3438) sound emulation core. This addresses numerous subtle and not-so-subtle issues, particularly in Sega and Data East games. Windy Fairy and Jennifer Taylor have continued to improve MAME’s support for Konami rhythm games, making beatmania IIDX, Beatmania III, Keyboardmania and ParaParaParadise games playable. Thanks to Happy, a couple more graphics issues with the Hyper Neo Geo 64 have been fixed.
There’s been a lot of work on the Apple IIgs and 68k Mac drivers this month. As well as the flood of machines promoted to working, Apple 3.5" floppy support has been revolutionised, and improvements to ADB GLU microcontroller simulation make the IIgs control panel usable. On the console side, save EEPROM support has been fixed for several Mega Drive games.
Of course that’s not all, and you can read about all the additions, bug fixes, and enhancements in the whatsnew.txt file. You can get the source and 64-bit Windows binary packages from the download page and start playing.
I got curious and did some searching, but the only thing I could find was mamedb, which was last updated for MAME 0.147, and listed a single system from 1971 (as well as ~10000 systems from 1969, but I'm pretty sure those are just defaulting to the Unix epoch).
So then, what's the oldest machine supported by current versions of MAME?
Relatedly, why aren't other, even older machines emulated? Lack of interest, don't match with MAME's intended focus, etc?

For Starters!
Thanks to all of you who give me constant feedback, AntiFly, you rock:) This goes a long way in getting things fixed up! Amiga will get a Boost NEXT Update, amongst other such things:)
Getting the most important thing out of the way, be sure to check out my YouTube Channel, recent videos over last 2 months to see everything related to THIS Release, as well as WIP for Next Release, including a showcase of SuperCharged MAME in action, as depicted here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7bImudvT3o
For the last couple of years, the Playstation Classic has pretty much gotten the best of the majority of the Updates...generally leaving the MD/SNES/NES Minis in the dust, so to speak. This will be changing, starting with THIS Update. Things will be more on equal grounds, and even "better" on MD/SNES/NES, in some respects! The Next Update, NOT this one, will take this to even more Xtreme SuperCharged Proportions:) In any case, as far as PSC is concerned, if you had already gotten the "LAST" Update, you won't need this one, since PSC really offers nothing new, this time around! But, the NEXT Update will have quite a bit for PSC, as well as MD/SNES/NES Minis! I am shooting to get that SuperCharged Update done sometime in May-Early June! For you MD/SNES/NES Mini Classic Users, however, this will be quite a fun Update for you all!
Has it already been two months?:)
Time really does fly. I am almost always busy with one project, work, etc. It would be pretty damned cool to be in an endless time loop, reliving the same day, over and over and over, so you could genuinely master and get what you need done:) Then, once done, "move" to the next day, and perfect it as well! This concept can also backfire, djinn style, kind of like the hellish tortures in Hellraiser Movies/Lucifer TV Show:) We all know about the Wishmaster, the Leprechaun, the Monkey's Paw, and how they never work out! And, don't get me started on Q:) Speaking of which, John de Lancie, who portrayed Q in the various Star Trek shows, will be in season 2 of Picard! He is easily of of my favorite characters to watch! And, for those of you who watch or have watched Supernatural...minor spoiler alert...There is a pretty fun to watch, Q like character! Anyways!
Mortal Kombat 2021!
What can I say, I enjoyed it, as well as the recent Animated Scorpion's Revenge! They play the latest MK for laughs, to a degree. And
