As title says, it can also be an isekai/harem like Mushoku Tensei. I also loved animes where the mc is a villain or has been betrayed like Shield hero. I want a decent amount of action and interesting magic with a decent plot. The anime can be a harem, I don’t care if it is or not. I’m very open to suggestions, thank you!

we all agree that the magic mc and Asra uses is blue right? like when it say the mc summons a or of light I think of it being blue, my mc has other colors for magic but the main one is blue and i think that blue magic fits Asra with the purple and because he gets most of his strength in magic from the moon so... is it just me that thinks that the main color of magic would be blue?

So I have an idea for a story told over several books that'll include several adventures involving magic, uncovering world history, and a main character that grows throughout the books (from young adulthood to middle age).
The thing is, this character is a magic user, but I'm not planning on revealing that until the end of the first book. The first book focuses more on the beginning of his adventures, how magic interacts with the world he lives in, and how he'll navigate this world as a normal person. It does have some subtle hints sprinkled throughout the first book about the MC's potential, but it's not explicitly stated that he can use magic until the very end (last chapter). I was wondering, would this be off-putting? To have a character be built up as a non-magic user only for that to be undone during the end? And then to have the rest of the series continue with him trying to learn his powers and explore the world further?
Book 2 starts off with him training his new powers and the rest of his magical adventures start there, so it sometimes sounds like book 2 would actually be a better book 1, and book 1 is more like a prequel explaining how the character got there. But I'd rather avoid prequels and just write in chronological order. So, assuming that both stories are equally entertaining and not affected by the magical status of the MC, is this not a good idea? Thoughts?

Takes me back, I remember asking for a Sword & Sorcery light novel on that subreddit and I was being recommended Sword Art Online of all things
I can remember little other than this one very odd image.
It's a standard fantasy series, the main character (male) is captured (i think) and his hand is cut off. Later in the story it is regrown by magic with help from another. I seem to remember his being the leader of a group of men/people on the run or possibly in hiding.

So I’m a sucker for books with badass FMCs and have been curious about whether or not there are books that follow an MC through their training like Nevernight. The whole series doesn’t have to be based off an academy but I would like some books to be located there or for there to be some sort of training in battle and magic or Assassin skills.
I do like for there to be romance in the books I read, doesn’t have to be the major plot. I prefer a good balance, but it’s always a nice addition for me. Also, I prefer NA or adult books rather than YA but I will read YA!
I have been tempted to watch Magi several times but the reviews all describe the MC as an "asindecisive, pathetic, naive weakling all the way till the end" which really put me off as i hate that kind of MC the most so i just wanted to ask if hes really as bad as they say. Thanks for any help.

Searching for books mentioned above with lots of action/fighting and exploring old ruins and discovering old/new powers. Forbidden magic is a little bit difficult to explain. Like magic nobody uses and fears or magic that really is forbidden like "demonic/dark magic" even if it in reality isn't, or even if it is as long as the mc controls it. All respective to their own worlds.
Magic meaning basically everything, elemental magic, or in World Forbidden or lost magic. And it should be used in fights too. Chosen one maybe with important magic. Magic Artifacts maybe or enchanted weapons. You know the whole package.
Book with similar "Magic" I read would be Wheel of Time, Stormlight Archive, Licanius more or less , Cradle for the fighting and using of skills.
I hope I'm not ruining anyone's fun because I know a lot of stuff that I don't enjoy are part of "the romance fantasy" element that I just happen to not prefer. The example I'm presenting here is Samurai Love Ballad Party because that's just the one I have on hand, but can apply as a general criticism to various games.
So, I love SLBP. I play it almost religiously. Love the characters, though I'm not like *in love* with anyone, but generally I really like the game.
But like, there's been many many events where the writers presented a situation where the MC is "special" because she used to be a hard-working regular citizen, and upon marrying the samurai lord, she suddenly becomes a noble lady that was frequently told "oh no, you're a noble lady, you can't do this and that". It's not something that happens all the time, but every now and then there'd be some sort of plotline that came across as presenting the MC as "not like other samurai girls".
I fully understand that since they have to keep churning out content every week they probably sometimes run out of ideas and had to create a rather absurd drama just so they can have something to show for the players. It's just that, I dunno, I feel like this kind of "not like other girls" trope is a proof of lazy writing. "This era is sexist/racist, so people are mean to MC" is the easiest drama to manufacture (alongside rape/kidanpping). And I can roll my eyes and move on most of the time, but every now and then I just get extra grumpy about it.
Besides... you know, this actually isn't true in real life? Samurai wives in history do actually do participate in minor leadership affairs in the clan. This is not whining about historical accuracy. There's so many things in this game that is Not Realistic. It's just that out of so many "fantasy" tropes to use, why this?
This is not a constant fixture either, to be fair. Mobile games often outsource their stories to a dozen different writers, so like, sometimes in the same game the MC are actually being yelled at for "not doing enough lordly work" as the wife (because her husband lets her continue to be a chef in the castle). It's a bit inconsistent like that. I'm just... VERY not into the "the MC is not like oth

Requirements are at least 60k+, no m/m, and a max of 3 person harem(don't really like harem stories because it usually takes up a lot of the word count, so minimum focus on that please).

I read the book probably early to mid 2000s. MC was an orphan whose parents died in an accident. The MC had smelled burned toast that morning and asked them not to go (As if he knew the future) but they go anyways. He has a run-in with some cult that causes things to go wrong by saying the Lords Prayer backwards. One notable thing is a truck driver listening to the radio and suddenly the sound changes to the Lord’s Prayer backwards and the truck ends up in some horrific accident.
Another scene I remember is the MC is stuck in some sort of swamp and smells burning and gets out of it via their powers.
At some point the MC is brought to live with a foster parent or distant female relative.
