What do Malay people think of the separatist group that is active in Pattani and Yala? I'm in Thailand and I've heard of it on the news briefly. Apparently, there are insurgent malay muslim groups in these provinces that want Patanni to be independent from Thailand.

There is the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement which was formed by activists and small groups also seeking for separation. They have quoted a marginalization of the people of Hawaii and erosion of their culture.

Is there some validity to claims of Hawaiian sovereignty through treaties/agreements with the US Government?
Also, is this a similar situation to land and treaty disputes that Native Americans have with the USA?
