I just wanted to update my Facebook profile with my college education. I didn't want to send a blast to my friends list that I "just started college" and then date it for 5 years ago. Now if I want to hide/delete the post from my timeline, it'll remove all record of my education from my profile...

ULPT: If you want to learn a variety of subjects but can’t afford a college education, just go to your local university and sit in on some big lecture hall classes. You could easily go a few weeks unnoticed, and maybe even the entire semester.

This occurred to me many times while in college. Most universities post class schedules online, so it’s not too difficult to find class days and times. The first week of classes are always full of random people trying to add, so it’d be quite easy to slip in! Only con is that you can’t get a degree this way. This tip is to be used solely for learning purposes!

Went to college. Got a useless degree. Horrible man skills. Excellent intellect skills. I’ve worked manual labor before but used my education to get out of it. Trouble is I hate working in education.

Got my bachelors degree in a useless field. I have a credential to substitute teach but as the above states I hate it. So that leaves going back to school for a chemistry degree. I probably have a number of pre requisites completed because of my other degree work. So I don’t think it will be too much of a strain. I’m in an agricultural area. Which means that, if not school, my only options are the trades, in which I have no experience and am not necessarily skilled in but seem to have a lot of menial work a person can do. There are also pack and ship places that offer lots of hours but are very much factories. Which I don’t mind.

I’m currently working in a cannabis dispensary, which I love, but I have some debts and I am living beyond my means with cannabis, food, and gas being the things I cut from to make my budget. I’ve applied and been approved for welfare which helps with food but I want to be self sufficient. That’s why I went to college. I want to work with my mind not my hands. But right now I’m basically stuck. I don’t have the money to move out. I’m not earning any surplus money. I’m scared that my life is going nowhere and so was my girlfriend until she broke up with me. Which is fine. I don’t have any friends around here, except two people, and I think I was just relying on her love too much, she had found other uses of her time, and we decided to break it off.

I want to be a good man and I want to be able to go to sleep at night knowing I’m moving towards something and I’m not stuck. I’m willing to go to the manual labor if necessary. I’m willing and going to be applying directly to extract labs for any entry level work.

I don’t know. I just need some guidance.

What is the need of an education system that forces students to attend classes in schools and colleges?

We need exams. Not classes and lectures.

If there is a very intelligent kid in 3rd grade who finishes the syllabus of 5th grade via digital lessons due to his high IQ and interest, what is the need of forcing him to attend classes and lectures in schools and colleges so that he has to listen to the lectures of a teacher that tells things that he has already learnt? Isn't that a waste of time? He can utilize such time to learn something new instead. What is the need of enforcing minimum attendence on such kid? Why don't we create an education system where the knowledge and integrity of a kid is tested after every 6 months which he has to pass. After that, there would be no need for him to attend any lessons and he can gain new knowledge and skills according to his own comfort.

If this is the essence of homeschooling, then what is wrong in it? Why does not state establish knowledge centres in every city where the student learns things at his own pace via structures lessons on a computer/laptop?

Edit 1 : So I think that homeschooling is not a good idea. The problem can be solved by two provisions in education system.

First, studying through digital lessons in separate computer labs for kids who feel they do not belong to the culture and IQ of their classmates. We shall never force such kids to change their pace and method of study just for the sake of socialising. For socialising, such kids can join their classmates in non academic activities like cooking, yoga, singing etc.

Second - Fri, Sat and Sun should be off or kids should be taken to nature treks or something.

Letting teenagers and college kids guide the future of the country is a dumb idea. They have little life experience and little education. Also, they have very low levels of self doubt and high confidence in their opinions. They dream big with little thought for real world implications.

Why should millions of kids steer this country when they have literally no experience at life beside growing up and making it to 18? Vote all you want - but people should stop acting like the youth should run the nation.

Someone over 30, 35, 40 has faced many issues in life. They have watched their friends face many issues. They have worked for several employers and gotten a sense of how business commerce and profits work. They have watched politicians lie and promise the moon year after year.

Seriously, this level of willfully ignorant conservatism is the reason why I chose to leave the bubble that most Americans live in so I can experience life in a different country. I will gladly enjoy β€œthat socialist crap” since it doesn’t lead to crippling student loan debt and stagnated wages in an economy designed to keep you down. But go ahead and keep giving your opinion from the 10km radius of your hometown that you have never left.
