Question about the actions and thought process of Terence Fletcher. The Music Instructor in Damien Chazelle's 2014 Oscar-Nominated film, "Whiplash." Portrayed by J.K. Simmons, which won him his first Oscar for, "Best Supporting Actor."

So Spoilers Ahead If You Haven't Seen, "Whiplash."

So from the very beginning of the Film, literally the first words spoken in the film. We establish Andrew is a talented drummer who loves what he does. Which explains why is the only one practicing and I noticed the room he was practicing in, it was a rather small room as well. I kind of took it as Andrew is so focused with the drums that he's literally losing contact with people until all he has left are his drums. That's why no one else was in the room, and why the room was rather small. Everything Andrew has is in that small room. What do you think? Any Truth? Or am I way off?

But anyway, my question is about Fletcher. Again, from this opening scene, we also establish that Fletcher is an intimidating character. Not just how he speaks to Andrew and because of the reputation he has. But Fletcher literally comes from the shadows, we hear him before we even see his face, letting us trying to remember what JK Simmons looks like. But my question is about his actions throughout the movie and what his thought process might have been during specific scenes.

First, at that first seen in the beginning, Andrew stops playing and when asked why he stopped, he plays and when he stops the second time, Fletcher calls him a "wind up drum monkey" or something like that. Do you think he walked that hall to see Andrew play because he liked what he heard? Or did he see some poor sap and felt like just messing with the kid, play with his head a little bit. He walks away in the middle of Andrew playing also. Was he ever really interested in how he was playing? Did he actually like it and that's why he promoted him to the main band the following week? He liked what he heard and wanted to challenge Andrew? Or his entire set of actions and decisions are all there just to mess with some poor kid who knows won't make it and he wants to have his fun.

Finally, WHO TOOK THE DMN FOLDER? The honest reason why I have that theory of Fletcher just messing with Andrew the entire film perfectly plays into why I think Fletcher took the Notebook. Who do you guys think took it?
