Just wanted to make a list of existing Malayalam film databases. If I missed any, please comment it below.
I heard there was a version of Kammatipadam was originally 4 hours.
I also want to see the uncensored cuts of some Renji Panicker movies like Commissioner, King, and Pathram. I noticed there was this one dialogue by Biju Menon that got censored for political reasons.

First time posting here. Personally, I think the Malayalam film industry is on a rise after being stuck in rut for a while. Films like Kumbalangi nights, Jallikattu, Helen, ee.ma.yau,moothon, ishq have provided me with hope as the Malayalam film industry has started to focus more on the content of the film rather on film stars. The rise in popularity of directors like LJP and actors like Joju shows that true talent is getting recognized and appreciated. What do you guys think about the current state of our film industry and what changes would you like to see?.
There are good movies in this genre like anjam paathira and raatasan but it would be nice to get other types of movies
Alencier hasn't featured in a movie with the 'Kochi' gang since the #MeToo came to light and he accepted his misdeeds publicly. I think his only major movie since then is Prathi Poovankozhi which ironically is based on sexual harassment women face and features Malayalam cinema's female icon Manju Warrier.
Mukesh, despite the allegations having a good weightage, came out of it unscathed almost and still does a lot of movies. The strong political hold that he boasts of now helps, obviously.
Rajesh Pillai, well, he is dead.
Gopi Sundar was another major name who was caught up in the scandal but he came out of it with minimal damage to his reputation and he is obviously still a massive player in the Malayalam industry (and Telugu). In fact, I did not even know he was caught up in it until recently.
Anyone else from Malayalam industry who was involved?
What are your candidates for the best malayalam comedy movie this decade ?
Dileep dominated this genre the past decade but he was supported by a great cast who did lot of the heavylifting and gave the movies a true comedy feel even though all of this movies were diluted by other elements like action, drama, romance etc. But this decade most of Dileep's comedy movies failed to impress and the ones that did had few individuals like Aju Varghese or Suraj complementing him to provide good moments.
The only true comedy movies that comes to my mind are Kunjiramayanam and Vellimoonga. Almost everyone in these movies gets moments to shine but in Kunjiramayanam every department like music, visuals help to retain the comedic feel throughout.
Which malayalam movies do you think fits the true comedy movie genre and which one do you think is the best of the lot?
> For Malayalam Films - Most Top Actors charge little or no Acting Fees but instead take the Digital Rights of the Movie (Malayalam Version)
> For instance - Mohanlal is known to ask for an Advance fee of around Rs. 50 Lacs - Rs. 1 Crore and secure the Malayalam Digital Rights for the Movie. He has received Rs. 6.50 Crores for Lucifer (Rs. 1 Crore + Rs. 5.5 Crore) but has received Rs. 3.80 Crore for a film called Itamani made in China (Rs. 1 Crore + Rs. 2.80 Crore).
> For Non Malayalam Language movies - Mohanlal usually asks for a full fee of Rs. 0 - Rs. 1 Crore and secures the Theatrical Rights for the Movie in Kerala for Eranakulam and Kochi Centres. For Jilla - Mohanlals Fee was Rs. 25 Lacs + Rs. 3.20 Crore (Distributor Share for Kochi Center for the Movie).
> In the same way - Mammooty prefered to demand full fees of Rs. 2.75 - Rs. 3.50 Crores per film but recently has switched to a Advance Fee of Rs. 1 Crore - Rs. 1.50 Crore plus Digital Rights (Malayalam Language). He made a fee of Rs. 7 Crore (Rs. 1 Crore + Rs. 6 Crore) for Mamamagan.
> Malayali Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran goes one step further. He quotes an Advance amount plus 25% of Thiruvananthapuram Theatrical Rights which varies between Rs. 3.5 - Rs. 6 Crores for Hit Films whereas for films like Brothers Day - he barely made Rs. 80 Lacs.
> (Only After Producer has recovered all his costs plus generated a profit)
> Some Actors like Fahad Fazil, Kunjako Boban, Dileep prefer outright fees and charge based on their market fees. Dileep gets between Rs. 1.80 - Rs. 2.40 Crores per Film while Kunjako Boban gets Rs. 60 Lacs and Fahad around Rs. 75 Lacs per film.
> SO HIGHEST PAID ACTOR does not apply. If Prithviraj makes a movie that can net the Thiruvananthapuram Distributor a share of Rs. 20 Crore - then he can end up with Rs. 8 Crores a film which is higher than Mohanlal or Mammooty.
> As of today - based on numbers - Mammooty has got the highest fee for a Movie which is Rs. 7 Crores (Mamagan) while Mohanlal has received Rs. 6.5 Crores (Lucifer).
I bought my mom "the immortals of meluha", the malayalam version, and she's been binging it non-stop. I was unable to find a list online for popular books translated to Malayalam.
If any of you could suggest any, that would be awesome.
So far I know of Harry Potter translated to Malayalam.
So was thinking about how much a climax goes about in defining the overall opinion an average viewer holds about the film. Would love to hear your 10 favourite climax scenes in Malayalam, the ones which you just can't miss whenever it comes on TV. Doesn't necessarily have to be the best as far as narrative, technical aspects, visuals et al are concerned but just your personal favourites.
Here is mine:
Dasharatham- Everyone cried during its shoot. And honestly, I don't blame them.
Drishyam- Do I need to tell why?
Bodyguard- Dileep-Nayanthara did a fine job and Ousepachan's music elevates it.
Arike: Mamtha and Dileep literally lived this scene with the latter showing what an amazing actor he is if he stops doing trash comedy.
Thirakadha: Amongst Ranjith's top 3 works. Well written script and fine direction embody this film, dare I say it, even more than the performances of the lead actors.
Maayanadhi: The kind of climax that doesn't make you cry. Yet, you can't help but stop thinking about it for quite sometime. It's weirdly haunting. I blame Rex Vijayan's astonishingly brilliant score for this.
Charlie: A perfect ending to a very good popcorn entertainer.
Kireedam: If I say anything on this, I will be cliche peddling because everyone has talked so much about it already.
Munnariyappu: It's beyond me how widely underrated it is amongst the casual watchers. Venu used Mammooty's acting skillset efficiently to talk about a man's psychotic obsession with the concept of his freedom and its nuances.
Ayalathe Adheham: It felt weirdly satisfying to watch Jayaram's character win in the end and Siddique's character getting exposed and the quality of their respective family lives switch just like that.
I have very limited knowledge about south Indian film industry. And TIL about Pawan Kalyan. (To his fans, please don’t kill me)
A free, one-off role just for fun.
For me it has to be Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi (2012) because it spoke to me in so many ways and I honestly enjoy it. And a plenty of factors played a role in it becoming it for me.
What are yours?
