Gene Wilder died today at the age of 83. Gene described himself as a "Jewish-Buddhist-Atheist". He is number 66 on this list of "Atheist, Agnostic, or Non-Religious Actors and Directors". Now I need to see "See No Evil, Hear No Evil" again with your buddy Richard Pryor. RIP Mr. Wilder !!! imdb.com/list/ls057828993

[TOMT] This Jewish sitcom [actor] is a funny, balding, chubby guy that everyone always makes fun of

I looked through the entire List of Jewish actors on Wikipedia and still can't find the name of the adorable funny chubby guy that I probably know from a 90s sitcom, but has also appeared in movies, usually portraying the tv trope character that everyone always makes fun of. Extra kudos if you also know the name of the tv trope I just mentioned.

No, it's not Jason Alexander (too small) or Wayne Knight (too big), but they come close.

Some additional information: In the show I know him from he is an office colleague, wearing a suit and tie. He portrays a character that's pretty dumb and misses the point in a funny way. His facial expressions really help sell this role.

Fleeing the Nazis, Lionel Royce returned to Austria in 1936, where to hide his heritage, he created the persona of Kaspar Brandhofer, a Tyrolian peasant, and became a sensation as a natural actor on the stage in Vienna.

The New York Times' Greatest Actors of the 21st Century List is Really Weird

The New York Times put out their picks for the 25 greatest actors of the past 20 years, and some of the choices are strange and arguably poor selections. Melissa McCarthy at #22 is the biggest outlier, and Keanu Reeves at #4 is sure to ruffle a lot of feathers, as might Denzel Washington at #1. There are plenty of other strange choices as well and a ton of huge snubs.

Here is the NY Times article for anyone who hasn't seen it. I put together my full thoughts in video form but that is obviously not required viewing to discuss.

Jewish Actors/Characters

Since it's the holiday season, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the actors that you might not have known were Jewish. Ginnifer Goodwin, one of the Jewish actors on the show, talked about how she likes to think Snow and David celebrate both Hanukkah and Jewish, so it might be fun to imagine what sorts of holiday traditions these characters would get up to.

As I mentioned already, Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Snow White, is Jewish. So are the people who play her parents. Richard Schiff and Eric Lange, both of whom played her father, King Leopold, are Jewish. Rena Sofer, who plays Queen Eva, is also Jewish.

But it isn't just Snow and her family who are played by Jewish actors. Megan Ory, the actress who plays Ruby, is also Jewish. So some of the dwarves, like Lee Arenberg, who plays Grumpy. For me, it's fun to imagine how Snow's resistance would have celebrated together, and what differences there'd be between our version of Hanukkah and a version they might have in the Enchanted Forest.

These are just some of the ones I can easily find on https://ethnicelebs.com/. I'm pretty sure some more of the dwarves are Jewish, like Jeffery Kaiser who plays Dopey. My friend has said he is. But these are the ones I can find easy evidence for.

So, what do you guys think? Is it fun to imagine the characters celebrating a mixture of Hanukkah and Christmas? Was there anyone in here that you didn't know was Jewish? Would love to hear your thoughts.

"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" may be just an okay movie overall, but true to the museum spirit, it's an amazing collection of 25+ A and B list actors and celebrities truly hamming it up as historical figures and caricatures.

I hadn't seen this one in a few years and decided to watch it again last night. And boy, 11 years later, that cast list has turned out to be something out of this world. The rate at which huge names show up is comparable to an Avengers movie.

The best part is that almost every single one the big names in this movie has the chops to play very serious roles, but at Shawn Levy's direction, the whole film is incredibly over the top. I had so much fun watching it last night that I figured I'd highlight some of the roles I liked the most. I'll also list out the others so you can take a glance at how seriously impressive the cast is.

  • Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart - This movie prominently features Adams's moxie, and I just can't understand how anyone wouldn't fall in love with Amelia Earhart as Adams plays her. She's got this blend of romance and adventurous independence that never lets you forget that the movie wants you (and your kids) to have fun.
  • Hank Azaria as Kahmunrah - When I talk about hammy performances in this movie, Azaria's lisp is the shining star of them all. The lisp and his patronizing lilt manage to make any line pretty much magic. "You did all three!" In fact, Azaria plays three characters, also voicing the meathead Thinker and Abe Lincoln.
  • Jonah Hill as Brandon the Security Guard - Battle of the Smithsonian was smack in the middle of Superbad and Moneyball for Jonah Hill, and his one scene as "It's Brundon" is a hilarious moment in time. For whatever reason, this role and several others went uncredited.
  • Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt - "I bet he'd let his horse lick it, too."
  • Bill Hader as George Armstrong Custer - Not that you'd typically describe Hader as holding much back, he really lets loose on this yellow-bellied portrayal.
  • Ben Stiller as Larry Daley
  • Owen Wilson as Jedediah
  • Steve Coogan as Octavius
  • Christopher Guest as Ivan the Terrible
  • Eugene Levy as Albert Einstein
  • Ed Helms as Larry's assistant
  • Craig Robinson and Keith Powell as Tuskegee Airmen
  • Mindy Kaling as a docent/museum guide
  • Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant as Wilbur and Orville Wright
  • Jon Bernthal as Al Capone - Another over-the-top performance to remember.
  • Rami Malek as Ahkmenrah
  • Jay Baruchel as Joey Motorola
  • Clint Howard as Mission Control Technician
  • George Foreman as himself
  • Ricky Gervais as Dr. McPhee
  • Brad Garrett as the Easter Island head
  • Carroll Spinney as Oscar the Grouch
  • Shawn
