A list of puns related to "List of Indian composers"
Apart of yoko shimomura, is there any other composer in kh3 ost that made songs without yoko's intervention?
There are some songs that drag the notes and I feel the are not yokoish, that is why I am asking
Does anyone have suggestions on great concert band/symphonic band/wind ensemble composers to listen to?
I think there were names mentioned in some interviews, but I can't find them. I'd be curious to listen to contemporary classical music (of which I know nothing) that sounds like gybe.
I have been super hyped on the music of Tamil Film Composer Ilaiyaraaja ever since I listened to the wonderful compilation Play That Beat Mr. Raja - Selected Oddities From The Tamil Film Industry (1984 - 1991), a collection of Kollywood music that fuses genres such as like Funk, Disco, Boogie, Hip-Hop, Electro, etc with classic Indian genres.
The fusion of these genres result in expertly programmed intricate drum machine beats, wild analog synthesizers playing melodies in traditional Southern Indian modes/scales, vocal performances ranging from beautiful to bizarre, and an unconventional style of fragmented song structure; some of these tracks take five or more pretty drastically different musical "ideas", weave them together in a way that feels seamless and effortless.
Ilaiyaraaja is clearly the star of the compilation and is the credited artist on the majority of the tracks. From what I have read, Ilaiyaraaja is widely accepted as the musician responsible for bringing genres like funk, electro, psych, jazz, and disco into the music of Indian Cinema.
I am no expert on the Ilaiyaraaja, as I have only just begun to explore his massive amount of work (over 7,000 compositions!). However I am looking to talk about his work with someone who might know more about him than I do and could provide some context for his work as it relates to Kollywood music and music from India at large. Perhaps there are some essential songs by him that someone would like to recommend, or a good interview with him, or maybe even a book/in depth article.
I have been exploring his music for a few days now and I am completely enamored with his what I have heard. At the moment, i am very into the song Idhu Oru Nila Kaalam sung by S. Janak from the 1981 film Tik Tik Tiki.
I especially enjoy the first 20 or so seconds, specifically the rolling drum beat, and the way it interacts with the bass and saxophone (I think it's a sax, at least). It sounds very familiar, I feel like I have heard it sampled somewhere, perhaps in a a Flying Lotus, Madlib or J Dilla song? Another highlight of this track occurs at 2:00 where the song switches things up - some of the instruments drop out, the drum beat changes to something simpler, a more familiar chord progression is used, as S. Janak sings a beautiful an

It took me awhile to get the hang of the coding side of things, but I have got it down now. I will begin creations of everyone's favourite flairs and will keep you updated on the process. Who do you want to see added in? I'm game for any composer that comes to your mind, no matter how obscure.
Edit: Lili Boulanger is now available :)
Edit No. 2: Bohuslav MartinΕ― is in the house
Edit No. 3: Salieri is up and running
Edit No. 4: Amy Beach has been finished but Reddit has decided it is a good time to start giving error messages when uploading >.<
Edit No. 5: Amy Beach is here!
Edit No. 6: Let's all give Mr. François Couperin a warm welcome.
Edit No. 7: Hellooooo Hildegard! (couldn't fit von Bingen in the text, but this should suffice. Probably my favourite thus far)
Edit No. 8: Arthur Sullivan has arrived. I seem to be operating in the world's strangest order here.
Edit No. 9: Glinka has landed
Edit No. 10: Bellini says what's up.
Time to go to bed, but I found a pretty good rhythm so far, the hardest part was figuring out the CSS coding at the beginning, now that I've got that down, it should be smooth sailing. Someone feel free to let me know what you think of the progress so far, I want to hear any criticism even if you think it is insignificant- something like hey the font (or color of it) doesn't look great on Hildegard would be great food for thought. I need to step up my font game I feel like, the program I am using has a great selection of them, but it gets a little tough with the longer names. So far I am just kind of making this whole thing up as I go along! Stay tuned for more flairs tomorrow. Cheers!
Edit No. 11: Scott Joplin is here!
Edit No. 12: Hasse completed
Edit No. 13: Just knocked out about 6 or 7 more, but have to get around to coding them in so people can find them. Probably will start rolling again on this project late tonight. It's time for the dentist, then the gym, then cooking dinner and watching Jeopardy, then e-sports with my best friend, then the project will resume!
Edit 14: Just uploaded a bunch more, going to make a separate post when I add about twenty more giving an overview of the work I've done so far. Thanks for reading!
In my latest BBC Music Magazine, several composers submitted lists for their top 5 all-time best composers. The most eclectic list, IMO, was from OG minimalist Steve Reich:
1.) Perotin 2.) Bach 3.) Stravinsky 4.) Bartok 5.) John Coltrane (!)
I love how he goes all the way back to Perotin, whose work predates tonality, but which also sounds VERY Reichian when you listen to it -- listen to Viderunt omnes and you'll be reminded of the singing style deployed in "Music for 18 Musicians."
Coltrane is also a wonderfully inspired choice ALTHOUGH I would have gone with either Duke Ellington or Charles Mingus. Mingus -- especially on his record "The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady" -- wrote music that has symphony-like ambitions.
Also interesting the big gap from Bach to Stravinsky, which makes sense because Reich has said that the classical and Romantic eras do nothing for him, with the exception of Beethoven's wilder late works.
The title is self-explanatory.
I will keep adding, if I come across more.
Here is a list of some 100% vegetarian Indian restaurants in Calgary for those that are interested!
We should make one, would be useful for anyone wanting to get into indian hiphop
Maybe we can split it by subgenre
Is there a list anywhere online that says which Falcom composers composed which songs? I see online that many people know who composed what but I donβt know where to find them. I studied music production and Falcomβs music is masterful, specifically the harmony progressions and instrumentation.
Hi everyone -
Longtime reader and lurker, first time poster.
I was wondering if it would be a good resource for this community to create a list of original composers who are active here?
The list could include who you are, a brief description of your style(s), and a link to profiles for streaming your music.
For the sake of meeting subreddit rules perhaps at least one of the accounts you link should include sheet music and meet the other requirements for music submission.
Seems like a fun way for composers here to boost their visibility, And for listeners, a convenient way to easily and quickly find and subscribe to composers who write music you're interested in.
The primary audience is people who are unfamiliar with classical music, so you guys probably will know a lot of the stuff that I try to explain, but I'm open to any comments/critiques. Link: https://ashih91.wixsite.com/theclassicalremixer/post/a-classical-composer-tier-list-part-1
Justin Bieber. Susan Boyle. Jimmy Buffet. Phil Collins. Miley Cyrus. Danny Elfman. Selena Gomez High School Musical in general. Jonas Brothers. Demi Lovato Randy Newman. Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark in general. Kanye West. Hans Zimmer.
Granted, some potshots are more about how they are as people (West, Kanye) but I get the feeling they Trey and Matt truly hate their music abilities. Given theyβre Grammy winner and multi-Tony winners, with Trey getting an Oscar nom, for their music, I think theyβre a good authority on what makes good music.
Anyone else Iβm missing? And please donβt add Barbara Streisand. I donβt consider her a singer.
I see there are frequent posts here of people asking suggestions for Indie or alt bands.
Giving same answer is kind of tedious. Let's together compile a list according to genre/region/whatever y'all decide and I will create a wiki linking to Artist's page.
Post your comment and I will keep editing this description and once we have a good count, I will create a wiki by next weekend or something.
And while we are at it, let's also discuss the listing format.
Edit: People who are recommending, I request you to take little extra efforts and put line breaks between the band names. For someone who does not know every name, it becomes difficult to understand where the name starts and where it ends.
