A list of puns related to "Latins (Italic tribe)"
I.e. What did these various Italic languages add to Latin and were there substrata or superstara differences in either the language as a whole or just regional differences
This is just a thought I had about the peninsula. They never really got their own big empire in history, which is sad because they had some pretty nice civilizations there for the time. I was wondering if and how they could unite, and how they could change the ancient world.
The Etruscans seem like a good candidate, or maybe the Umbri. The Latins may have had a chance, but it's unlikely considering their small size and Roma's destruction. The Greeks could if they put more effort into colonization.
What are your thoughts? How would they form and change history if they could?
Italic tribes such as the Samnites, Faliscans, Greeks, and Goths inhabited Italy before and during the Roman Empire, but eventually were folded into the empire and became completely Roman. How long did they hold on to their non-Roman ancestries, and when were they forgotten as they are today?
As would happen to anyone in such a situation, Gaius was beyond bewildered when, at some random moment, as he was trying to fall asleep, a thought flooded his mind: he was now no longer excluded from an arbitrary grouping of tribes. It interrupted all previous trains of thought, and it took over his mind, though only for a moment, before disappearing again, just as it came.
As he would later discover, this same thought, and its same interruption, had entered the minds of all the villagers, pausing their tribeβs life for a short moment before leaving everyone confused and scared. What kind of witchcraft had caused them to all at once think such a strange and unnatural thought? The following months were followed by a series of hangings of local women for witchcraft, long nights praying to the gods asking them to guard them from such intrusions into their minds again, and restless nights of sleep, wondering what on earth could have been the source of such a phenomenon.
Nonetheless, after some few years, the event had almost faded from everyoneβs memory. With such an event never having been repeated, and no more witchcraft having been so explicitly practiced since, the tale of the event quickly became a legend, spun into a wild story far beyond what happened. Nonetheless, this legend still held that grain of truth and, though it may have grown more into a horror story to scare children with, in the back of the minds of many, that fear of the event still lingered.
Edit : messed up title. It should read
βBut what were the real political entities of early Roman period of Italy?β
For example, todayβs state of Gujarat in India envelops a Gujarati culture and a region of Gujarati speakers - but they were once divided into several principalities and a few of the kingdoms that had distinct culture of their own, where even today someone from south Gujarat might see himself as different - May be distinct more than different - from central Gujarat, North Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch etc.
Iβm an American of Mexican descent and I personally dislike being labeled Hispanic and Latino because most people use said terms as a racial descriptor. Due to this, I do what I can to never mark those boxes on any document. In my opinion, if my physical features were to be racially labeled then Iβm Indigenous American. I, however, also refrain from claiming to be Indigenous because I donβt speak an Indigenous language and I wasnβt brought up in an Indigenous culture. Finally, I think if βLatinoβ were to be used as a racial descriptor, it should be used to describe Italians since they are the closest modern population descended from the Italic tribe of the Latins.
From what I understand, Cisalpine Gaul was predominately Celtic, despite the buffer the Alps naturally created between Italy and the predominately Celtic Gaul.
17 hrs later : Damn, must be a pertinent question. Glad a lot of people care about this too. I was a bit surprised that many of the answers revolve around typing, which wasn't what I planned but great nonetheless. I was a bit more concerned with how you perceive the world around you, since childhood does shape a person a lot. Maybe about how people think and read in a different way having the language they grew up with not using the latin alphabet, hell maybe throw in some synesthesia. Big thanks to everyone, you beautiful bastards
Ive been in Madrid for over a year and I am from the carribean. At first everyone said I had a cool accent like Bad Bunny or Anuel but then some people started correcting my way of speaking and saying my Spanish sucks or they donβt understand. I felt hurt by this as we speak the same language but with different accents and expressions, I want to know if this is a general thing or I just had bad luck running into some dicks
Edit : racism / xenophobic
Burritos, tacos, empanadas, quesadillas, arepas, Peruvian chicken, theyβre all my favorites. Obviously we have way more Latin Americans in the USA so it makes sense that it would be way more popular here but the food is so tasty, is it common to have these types or restaurants or to make it at home?
Edit: I love posting questions like these because I always learn something really unexpected. I had no idea texmex tacos were so popular in Norway that itβs a bit of a tradition to eat them on fridays.
HOLY HELL these people are actual religious nut jobs! Protestants, Born Agains, Baptists, EVANGELICALS, hundreds of denominations all these people are NUTS

Do you guys even exist? I stumbled upon a travel video of a couple in SΓ£o Paulo and he was surprised to learn that his partner looked more local than him because she was Asian. I of course already knew that, but people barely know of our existence, so I guess tell us about yourself, what do you go through, what frustrates you, how is your ethnic identity, what are some weirdly specific stuff abou Asians in your country. And if you are from an ethnic group that is not traditionally linked to Latin America tell about it as well.
I don't know where I want to go with this, but I just wanted to know about other Asians in Latin America.
On YouTube, multiple content creators thrive on manipulating history to create digestible stories that justify their preexisting political biases. Whatifalthist is one of these YouTubers. As suggested in the r/badhistory post discussing his depiction of Africa, Whatifalthist is no stranger to making historically inaccurate statements illustrating his misconceptions on the world and willingness to act on that rather than the facts. This post will discuss his video on βHow Does Latin America Workβ, critique the conclusions he makes as well as reflect on how Whatifalthist contributes to the perpetuation of badhistory on the internet. I will not be covering his analysis on the present-day conditions of Latin America.

Whatifalthist commences the video with a discussion on whether he considers Latin America part of Western civilization. During his monologue, he shows this map that describes βWestern Civilization Variationsβ according to the creator. For me, this map is a rather concise introduction on the issues prevalent throughout this video. To start, the creator does not fully explain the choices he makes with assigning regions to βLatin Americaβ, βThe Westβ nor βOrthodoxyβ. He does not elaborate on why significant areas of both Australia and Canada are not considered βThe Westβ for example. There are regions like several of the Canadian Arctic islands and the southern tip of South America that are colored red but have no label. Also, the choices he does make on mapping these βvariationsβ are both incongruent as well as misleading. Muslim majority nations Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina are labelled βOrthodoxyβ; certain regions of the United States with historically significant Latin American influence like Miami and the Rio Grande Valley are labelled βLatin Americaβ but other regions with long-term Latin American influence like Los Angeles and San Antonio are not. For a section of his video dedicated to explaining his decisions, he neglects to concretely explain most of choices, leaving it to the viewer to attempt to reconcile the inconsistencies and inaccuracies in his
... keep reading on reddit β‘Dating is weird and exhausting in general but as of late, one guy I talked to was a white man that said βI have a thing for Asian women. Youβre not usually my type.β And the another guy I spoke with had a βkinkβ for Latin women and the last guy I talked to said he was cool with me being Latin as long as I wasnβt crazy. I donβt know it just feels harder dating as a non white American or maybe Iβm dating wrong and looking in the wrong places but I think I need a break from dating before I ended up more traumatized. Anyone else have weird dating experiences because of similar issue?
