That’s right Survivor fans, I’m covering a season most people love this time. Considered to be one of the best seasons ever made, Pearl Islands would be Survivor’s seventh outing on the small screen and would introduce some of the most famous (and infamous) contestants in Survivor history. Taking its theming of pirates and thievery, the show truly did everything it possibly could with its setting and story, highlighting the absurdity and propelled by its amazing cast. The season would also introduce one of Survivor’s greatest “villains”, whose legacy would be defined with one of the greatest lies ever told on the show and reality television.

What Is Survivor?

Survivor is a reality television competition where contestants are stranded on a deserted location and compete for a million dollars while living with the bare essentials. Upon arrival, contestants are split up into teams, called tribes, and compete for rewards to improve their living conditions as well as immunity from Tribal Council. The losing contestants must make the trek to Tribal Council to vote someone off their tribe: whoever has the most votes will be eliminated from the game. When about half the cast has been eliminated, the tribes are merged into one and contestants must then compete individually to win immunity. Finally, when only a handful of castaways remain, the contestants who have made it to the merge but were voted off form a jury that chooses which remaining contestant will earn the title of Sole Survivor, winner of the million dollar grand prize.

Each season varies in structure, and there are numerous twists and changes incorporated to switch things up, but Survivor at its core is truly a social game. The winner is usually not the one who wins the most challenges or does the most work at camp (though both of those traits can certainly help), but someone who can form strong bonds with others or at the very least have a story and strategy that the jury is willing to vote for. The people you either worked with, against, or even personally eliminated will likely be responsible for deciding if you or the person sitting next to you will win a million dollars. You need to somehow ensure that when the time comes, they at the very least can accept rewarding you.

For the past year and a half, I've had the misfortune of dealing with my HOA's contracted towing company. Unfortunately, from what I can tell from reading about other people's experiences, I am not alone. Since then, I've done as much research as I could on the laws they're required to follow in the state and the unethical and illegal operations that Empire Towing uses to exploit the people they're supposedly meant to serve as providing towing services for HOAs. First off, I want to clarify that I am not a lawyer. Still, I have spoken to a few informally through my network and formally through the Virginia Lawyer Referal Service. I want to share what I've confirmed from talking with them on the off chance that it might help in the future.

#Maximum towing charges

Most important is to know what towing companies can and cannot charge you for and the maximums they are allowed to do. From the Code of Virginia: § 46.2-1233.1. Limitation on charges for towing and storage of certain vehicles.

• No hookup and initial towing fee of any passenger car shall exceed $150.

• For towing a vehicle between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. or on any Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, an additional fee of no more than $30 per instance may be charged

• No charge shall be made for storage and safekeeping for a period of 24 hours or less.

So, in a nutshell: If you are towed between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the week and call to retrieve your car before 24 hours after the tow, the most they are legally allowed to charge you is $150. Remember that these are the state maximums, and your locality might have even fewer maximum fees. For my county (Prince William), the charges are identical.

Those are just the charges. Here are some important things to keep in mind that towing companies are not allowed to do.

The juror at the centre of Ghislaine Maxwell’s bid for a retrial incorrectly told the court he had not been a victim of sexual assault, The Telegraph understands.

The revelation increases the chance of Maxwell being granted a new trial in her sex-trafficking case, particularly if the judge finds it prejudiced the verdict.

The juror, who used the name “Scotty David”, gave a series of media interviews in which he admitted to swaying deliberations by recounting his own trauma from childhood sexual abuse.

Scotty, who spoke using his first and middle names, said he could not remember whether he revealed the information during jury selection, as was required, throwing Maxwell’s conviction into uncertainty.

A source with knowledge of the case told The Telegraph that the juror had answered “no” to the question of whether they had ever been a victim of sexual assault.

“He did not fill the questionnaire out correctly, then there were several questions that should have picked up same subject (by Judge Alison Nathan),” they said.

Judge Nathan told the New York court ahead of jury selection that the parties should be assured “if a juror is going to lie and be dishonest, we will smoke that out”.

On Wednesday, it emerged Scotty had retained Todd Spodek, an attorney for a notorious “fake heiress”, after he was advised by the US government to seek legal representation.

Mr Spodek has represented a series of high-profile clients, most recently Anna Sorokin, the wannabe New York socialite who pretended to be the scion of a wealthy European family to scam banks, businesses and friends. She served fewer than two years in prison on grand larceny charges.

Judge Alison Nathan has accepted to hear Maxwell’s motion for a new trial, giving the defence a deadline of Jan 19 to file a motion to vacate the sex-trafficking conviction.
