A list of puns related to "Kingdom of LombardyβVenetia"
Venice is revived after Napoleon and manages to expand into Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia Herzegovina. While Austria still conquers Hungary. With both countries hating Serbia. Venice attempts to unify the Italian states bordering the Adriatic against Piedmont Sardinia. Taking Tunisia when they get Libya, trying (and failing) to keep the Papal States alive. Would Italy still unify? And if it did who would do it? Would Venice be an Italian Austria?
I have played Kaiserreich for a while and one thing which has always bugged me about the lore is the almost non-existent Austro-Hungarian expansion. Except for Montenegro and some influence over Ukraine in the early years, they have nothing. As I have understood after some research on the Hapsburg War aims, after the entry of Italy into the war, the reannexation of Venetia and possibly Lombardy was a prioritised hope of the Austrian rulers.
Even despite this, the empire has foregone multiple chances to annex Lombardy-Venetia, both after the fall of Italy and when they occupy most of Lombardy and Venetia with the whites after the split in the Italian Republican cause.
So, when the Italian Federation is established in 1920, instead of Lombardy-Venetia being the sole member republic, it would be a constituent Kingdom of the Austrian Empire. I do not think this is necessarily a hindrance for the Kingdom to be a member, since other parts of Austria was members of the similar German Confederation. Lombardy-Venetia would later gain autonomy, similarily to Bohemia and Galicia-Lodomeria, after the Ausgleich of 1927.
I think a Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia, part of both Cisleithania and the Italian Federation would be a very interesting country which could have many different paths from 1936. Black Monday could potentially trigger a revolt by the exiled whites, possibly supported by the SRI which could take on any shape from Balboβs ANI to pro-unification syndicalists. Alternatively, the revolt could fail or not be launched, leading to a interaction with the other constituents in the 1936 election and the 1937 Ausgleich, possibly siding with Hungary to fight for independence. (And Irridentism)
I find this a more plausible scenario for Lombardy-Venetia, and game-wise probably at least as interesting. I have some more ideas for possible paths, though written on a paper, so if anyone finds this interesting I can try to share those.
In recent years, the General Occupation Zone of Lombardy-Venetia has suffered from a large amount of issues the most pressing of which is that the Italians do not wish for there to be an occupation zone at all. Since 1929, an array of Italian nationalist paramilitary groups have propped up. These groups are funded by patrons in the Italian Socialist Republic and the Kingdom of Italy, as well as other sources like donations and crime.
##Republican Militias
Auxiliary Corps of the Black Shirts' Action Squads
Auxiliary Corps of the Black Shirts' Action Squads (Corpo Ausiliario delle Squadre d'azione di Camicie Nere), or more commonly known as the Black Brigades (Brigate Nere) is a National Syndicalist paramilitary organization closely linked to the Fasces of Revolutionary Action, an important political party in the Italian Socialist Republic. The Black Brigades were formed in 1932 by an amalgamation of various illegal Blackshirt groups across Lombardy-Venetia. They are considered to be one of the largest and best organized paramilitary groups in Lombardy-Venetia. The Black Brigades actively assist in strikes and violence against the Austrian military. They wish to actively begin a violent revolution against the Austrians and will stop at nothing to fulfill this goal. They are also known to engage in kidnapping and extortion.
The Peopleβs Daring Ones (Arditi del Popolo), also known as the Redshirts, is the paramilitary group supported by the Italian Socialist Party. The Italian Socialist Republic actively conducts smuggling across Lombardy-Venetia to assist the Redshirts. The Redshirts have large support from various unions and have a number of guerilla cells in the mountains.. They also engage in kidnappings for ransom and sabotage across the countryside.
##Royalist Militias
Brotherhood of the Italian Nation
The Brotherhood of the Italian Nation (Confraternita della Nazione Italiana) are the main royalist paramilitary, strongest in the provinces of Bergamo and Padova. Functioning as a secret society, the CNI can count on the membership of countless elites across Lombardy-Venetia. A disturbing amount of those Italians who work with the occupation zoneβs government hold membership within the Brotherhood. The CNI can also count on money from the Kingdom of Italyβs government, with ar

He hopes that through this discussion two main goals shall be achieved
The peaceful resolution to the current diplomatic crisis between the Kingdom of Italy and the Socialist Republic of Italy
A conclusion made over the presence of German and Austrian military in Italy
As a side goal His Holiness desires to hammer out a possible cessation to the civil violence in the state
While the rest of the world goes through Black Monday, things have become much worse in the General Occupation Zone of Lombardy-Venetia. With Black Monday hitting, Austrian troops aimed to slowly pull out of the occupation zone and set up a puppet government. Staying behind in the zone is the small contingent of Germans, who continue to occupy Venezia (or in their words, Venedig).
The Civil Protection, the Occupation Zoneβs force of Italian soldiers, have either defected to the Royalists or Republicans or have agreed to serve in the military of the new "State of Lombardy-Venetia" former Occupation Zone leader Alcide de Gasperi has also agreed to serve as the state's new prime minister.
Local branches of the Fasces of Revolutionary Action and the Italian Socialist Party declared a general strike across Lombardy-Venetia. Black Brigades quickly stormed the cities. The city hall of Milano was taken by armed Black Brigades on February 12th, in which they erupted into song, singing βGiovinezzaβ and βL'Internazionaleβ. The PSIβs Peopleβs Daring Ones took to the mountains and the countryside, establishing a large guerilla base in both urban and rural areas. Meanwhile, the Black Brigades were still fighting in the streets of Milan. On February 13th, they attacked a small group of Germany troops that had been sent to restore order in the city, successfully fighting them off and forcing the Germans to retreat through Royalist territories back to Venezia.
The Brotherhood of the Italian Nation also took the countryside, taking control of swathes of the more conservative parts of Lombardy-Venetia. Cremona and Padua in particular have made themselves the main base of operations for the Brotherhood of the Italian Nation. Supporting the Brotherhood are the radical Italian Iron Guard, which has been able to establish themselves across Venetia province. Establishing various βIron Guard townsβ, they have made it their mission to combat the spread of "godless Syndicalism" and "Judeo-Masonic Communardism" across the countryside. Reports of the Italian Iron Guard clashing with the Black Brigades and People's Daring Ones is widespread, as well as accounts of massacres and torture of suspected PSI and FAR members by the Iron Guard.
The new State of Lombardy-Venetia has been able to hold on to areas mainly around the Austrian border. The reaction from both Republicans and Royalists have not been good. Both Black Brigades and Iron Guards have rounded up and massacred both Austri

I thought establishing a connection between Tyrol and Milan was a major goal of Habsburg foreign policy, yet the Habsburg-Venetian border remained largely unchanged for 300 years or so. I'd have expected that after the War of the Spanish Succession Habsburg would pounce the moment Venice showed weakness, but apparently this never happened, and I don't understand why.
It existed between 1815 and 1866. It seems to me that it is about the same as Westphalia, Hanover, Tuscany and Sardinia-Piedmont.
Initially Tuscany, Two Sicilies and the Papal States assisted Piedmont-Sardinia in their invasion of Lombardy-Venetia in March 1848, but Papal and Neapolitan troops withdrew in May over concerns about Piedmontese expansionism, and the Tuscan troops were decimated and demoralized at Curtatone shortly after. But say those three are suspicious of Piedmont-Sardinia's goals earlier on and never join in and Radetzky is able to clean things up decisively by Curtatone instead of two months later at Custoza. In August 1848 Radetzky gets recalled, marches half his troops through the Littoral, Carniola, and Croatia, entering the fray in Hungary in November 1848.
I wish I could find the link now, but there was one that listed the ethnic composition of Radetzky's armies in Lombardy-Venetia in both absolute numbers as well as a percentage of the whole. The numbers did not completely agree but about 140,000 troops . So let's say he leaves half behind under the command of his subsidiary generals to maintain order and take 70,000 with him. This makes a significant difference where before in terms of numbers the Austrians and Hungarians were both evenly match at about 170,000 troops.
Though Radetzky's extra troops and his tactical and strategic genius, by March, 1849, when Franz Josef would have sent the letter to Nicholas, it's already obvious that Austrian troops will win. It's not as decisive as it would have been with 200,000 Russian troops, but it's enough to get Lajos Kossuth to realize he can't run the army and turns things over to ArtΓΊr GΓΆrgei sooner who then capitulates in June but still with some bargaining power.
As a result, Franz Josef cannot fully repudiate the Hungarian Diet's April Laws signed by his grandfather, Ferdinand I, signed. Instead he agrees to a compromise superficially similar to the one one he agreed to two decades later in OTL.
The Military Frontiers have not yet been abolished, nor have Croatia, Slavonia been made subordinate realms of the Kingdom of Hungary. Transylvania has been separate since 1765, and I think it's likely that the Banat of Temeswar and Serbian Voivodship would get created as a result of the Hungarian Revolution in this ATL just as they were in OTL. As such, the Hungarian compromise here is limited to only the traditional Kingdom of Hungary and does not include all of the OTL Transleithanian territories and there is no strongly repressive crackdown.
How does this affect Austria heading into the Austro-Prussian War in 18

I didn't really know what was going to happen when I created the HRE (769 start). Turns out I lost the title of Kingdom of Lombardy.
Should I recreate it? Will the title just automatically go to the next HRE? I think my son will be too young by the time I die to end up being the next Emperor
Also, how did the Pope end up with 5 counties from my Kingdom after I formed the HRE? One of them was part of my demesne
