Why I think Zawe Ashton is playing Karla Sofen/Moonstone in The Marvels

I liked Captain Marvel more than most people, but one thing I disliked was the villain. Yon-Rogg wasn’t nearly as powerful as Carol, and was quite a boring character imo. Moonstone in the sequel could remedy this. As someone with similar powers to Carol, she could prove a much stronger threat, and raise the stakes significantly

Theory that a pre-Moonstone Karla Sofen is going to be one of the characters in Secret Invasion

One of the movies the Disney+ shows feels like it's building towards is The Marvels. We have Monica and her backstory in WandaVision, we have Kamala her own series, and either Secret Invasion is going to segue into CM2 or CM2 will segue into it (considering her first film ended off with her leaving Earth to help them find a home, I can't see the events of Secret Invasion not having some sort of connection with the sequel).

We also have been theorizing that the MCU is building up to some sort of villain team, whether it's the Dark Avengers, the Thunderbolts, or the Masters of Evil. Karla is one of the big members of all three and has played a major role with both the Thunderbolts and the Dark Avengers, so it's possible we could see her in the future.

I think that Karla will be introduced as one of the characters of Secret Invasion (potentially being who Emilia Clarke is playing) and that we'll see her origin as Moonstone in the show. She can be someone who either allies with Nick, allies with the Skrulls, or (fitting the character) plays both sides and in the end, comes out on top.

In a way, she'd fit the series. For one, her powers come from a Kree artifact and there have already been theories that we'll see the Kree Sleeper Cells mentioned in FFH. Maybe if she's working with Fury, this can be how she finds her signature stone and, like Monica getting her powers in the last few episodes of WandaVision, we can see Karla get her powers in the finale.

For another, she'd 100% fit the vibes of a Nick Fury-led spy show. Karla's whole thing is that she's a master manipulator, a psychiatrist who knows how to play people against one another and get people to trust her. In a scenario where no one knows who to trust and people are divided, she'd fit perfectly.

I can see her being a member of SWORD (or whatever operation Nick is running) and the show can suggest she's a Skrull. Each episode can have her doing things that would benefit both Nick but at the same time, hint she's working for the Skrulls. In the end, the reveal is simply that she has no allegiance. She's playing both sides to get what she wants and it's a win-win scenario for her.

If the Skrulls win, her helping them could allow them to give her a good position of power. If the heroes win, she can earn their respect and trust and potentially rise up in their ranks. By the end, she helps stop the Invasion and through this, manages to earn a good r

Respect Moonstone! (Karla Sofen) (Marvel 616)

>And Karla will never forget graduation day - never forget seeing the weary pride on her mother's careworn face... and the contempt she felt at that moment. Contempt and determination never to be that stupid herself - never to put anyone else's needs ahead of her own.

Respect Karla Sofen AKA Moonstone!

Alternate identities/costumes:

Moonstone - Meteorite - Ms. Marvel

Bio: Karla Sofen was the daughter of the butler of a famous and wealthy film producer, and grew up in his mansion as a "companion" to his daughter. After her father died of a heart attack she became a psychologist in order to manipulate others. When the original Moonstone (Lloyd Bloch) was apprehended by Captain America, Karla (who had previously worked with Dr. Faustus as part of a scheme to telepathically paralyze all of New York) drugged him and stole the alien gem which gave him his powers. As Moonstone, she clashed with the Hulk and the Avengers several times, joining different incarnations of Baron Zemo's Masters Of Evil on a few occasions. Her big break came after the Avengers and the Fantastic Four were seemingly killed by Onslaught, leaving the world with a hero vacuum. Baron Zemo reformed his Masters of Evil, but this time instead of normal criminal behavior they posed as a superhero team called the Thunderbolts with new identities, in order to fool the public and eventually take over the world. The plan backfired when the "villains" had a change of heart and realized that they liked being heroes more than supervillains. They turned on Zemo and stopped his plan to enslave the Earth. Moonstone has since worked with several incarnations of the Thunderbolts, and was recruited into Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers under the guise of Ms. Marvel. Although she showed signs of reform when the Thunderbolts became a legitimate hero team they quickly faded and she remains a true pragmatist, loyal only to herself.

The first Spider-Man event brought the biggest cast of characters ever for a single event, so here's a throwback: an 8-week-long summer event, running through July and August, coinciding with the movie's release in 2019. The first week of each month is just to recruit returning characters and set up the battle cast and storyline. Spidey's team is planning summer vacation but every destination they pick gets attacked by an Elemental, so they recruit some unexpected help (at the end it's revealed Mysterio created the Elementals because everyone ignored his idea to spend summer at theater camp). Electro gets a Β°2.0 power boost resembling his Amazing Spider-Man skin. Doc Oc puts on his Β°classic comic costume and so does Vulture. Also, a version 3.0 new feature: Detention's Over. Vulture can be freed and recruited (the cage, once empty, disappears). A difficult feat that requires completing the event. Β°Far From Home Mysterio wears his high tech costume from the movie. Who I personally think would make good choices as the antagonists of the future MCU projects we know we're getting

NOTE: This is all just my own opinion and if the MCU were to go a different route (which it likely will), I would totally understand that.

Eternals:

We already know Kro and the Deviants are going to be antagonists, but I also imagine we'll get a twist villain like a Celestial or one of the Eternals.

Hawkeye:

The Russian tracksuit mafia and Yelena already seem confirmed as antagonists and I imagine Swordsman will also go against Clint. I also agree with the theory that Madame Masque. Echo could also be an antagonist at first.

Spider-Man No Way Home:

We already know we're getting Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard. If they want to go full Sinister Six, options are Mysterio, Rhino, Vulture, Scorpion, or >!Venom!<.

Ms Marvel:

It seems we might be seeing Kamran in the show, and I can see him working under either The Inventor or Lineage.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness:

I think we're going to be seeing multiple villains in the film, with Strange chasing after Wanda, who seeks to bring back her children, unintentionally and manipulated by the Darkhold, harming the multiverse. I don't think she'll be a villain or intentionally causing damage, but she wants to save her kids.

Mordo can be the understandable antagonist going after Strange and Wanda, and a demonic villain tempting the heroes into bringing them to Earth.

Thor Love & Thunder:

The villain of the film has already been confirmed to be Gorr the God-Butcher.

Black Panther Wakanda Forever:

As the rumors have been saying, Namor and Atlantis, potentially also Attuma. If the theories are true of Michaela Coel playing Aneka, I can see her as a sympathetic antagonist.

She-Hulk:

Abomination has been confirmed and Jamila Jamil seems to be playing Titania, but I can also see villains like Wrecking Crew (already rumored) and the Leader popping up.

Moon Knight:

Ethan Hawke as the Sun King seeing as how he said he's basing his performance off of cult leaders.

The Marvels:

Our leads trapped in between a war between Veranke and the Super-Skrull army, and the Kree (with Yon-Rogg returning), with Karla Sofen (Moonstone) playing both sides to escalate the conflict.

Ant-Man & The Wasp Quantumania:

Kang has already been confirmed but I can also see the leaks saying>!Yellowjacket is returning!< being true.

What are some times when changing a hero/villain to a different villain/hero worked really well for both characters? What are some times it didn’t?

One example I can think of is Karla Sofen/Moonstone temporarily becoming a Carol Danvers villain in Brian Reed’s Ms Marvel run. She actually worked as a foil to Carol and to this day, I still wish Marvel had officially made her a Carol villain.

What other examples do you guys have?

An idea I had for where they can take Carol's arc in CM2 (The Marvels)

One of the big things about Carol in the comics is her public image and how the world views her, how the public opinion can shift and how it judges her every action. So many of her story arcs in the comics revolve around her realizing she is now becoming a role model for others and dealing with that self-doubt.

Another important aspect of her is her desire to help people and how it can lead to her prioritizing others over herself. I think both of these aspects would make a great arc for the character in CM2.

I personally like the idea of The Marvels showing how Carol taking on the task of protecting the galaxy on her own is causing her to overwork herself to protect everyone, with everyone either putting her on this pedestal or picking apart every mistake she makes, as the stress/pressure she's under is becoming so much to handle on her own.

I think it'd be interesting to see her in her second movie trying to be everywhere at once and please everybody, trying to appear as an infallible hero who's got everything handled on her own even though things may be getting too out of control, all the while avoiding dealing with her own issues, specifically the death of Maria.

So pairing her up with someone who puts her on this high pedestal (Kamala) and someone who used to idolize her but now resents her (Monica) is perfect and a great way to provide her with an emotional conflict.

Even the villain can be someone who adds to this arc. If it's someone like Veranke and the Super-Skrulls, you could have it so that they feel like Carol isn't doing enough for their people and are taking matters into their own hands. So when this betrayal happens, it hits Carol. She feels like she failed the Skrulls, like the past thirty years were for nothing (kind of like Steve and Widow wondering if their work for SHIELD was worth it after it turned out to be HYDRA).

If the villain is someone like Karla Sofen (Moonstone), you could have it so that she's what would happen if Carol gave up trying to save people. She could believe she is the perfect hero Carol can never be and/or could attack Carol using her manipulation/psychoanalysis skills.

Either way, the conflict of the story and Carol's dynamic with Monica and Kamala and help Carol to realize she needs a helping hand and that she doesn't have to be this perfect hero, that making mistakes and expressing these negative emotions doesn't make her less of a hero.

If the fi

Question/theory about the casting of Secret Invasion and The Marvels

Personally I'm very excited for both of these projects and I'm wondering if there are any plausible theories an rumors about the characters who will appear, as well as the possible plot.

I am especially curious about the roles Zawe Ashton, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman will play.

I have several theories of my own; based on the casting call, the actress in her 40s/50s who will be sharing a lot of screen time with Nick Fury could be aged up agent Abigail Brand, played by Colman.

Zawe Ashton, a confirmed villain in CM2, could be Karla Sofen or maybe queen Veranke?

The "important supporting role" for a younger actress confuses me, it sounds like Veranke (in her true form) maybe? Emilia Clarke is credited for 6 episodes and I'm not sure Marvel would want someone like her under prosthetics and green make up. I kinda want her to stay in the MCU.

If you have any theories or if you heard any rumors, please feel free to share them.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

We know Zawe Ashton has been cast as the villain of Captain Marvel 2 and as some know, Carol does have a number of female villains to choose from. So who do you think she's playing?

Personally, I'm thinking she's playing Karla Sofen (Moonstone) and that she'll serve as a manipulator playing everyone against one another. Not only would it fit the theory that we'll be seeing the Dark Avengers/Thunderbolts in the MCU, but she would make a great foil for Carol.

What do you think Captain Marvel 2 story will be about?

So, like many of you, I used to believe that CM 2 will revolve around Secret Invasion, but it was revealed on Disney's Investor day some weeks ago that Secret Invasion will be its own show starring Fury and Talos and will probably come out before CM 2.

We also learned during that presentation, that Kamala and Monica will be joining Carol as co-stars of the movie and the title poster even has 3 Captain Marvel symbols on it symbolizing the 3 heroes.

But what could the story revolve around?

I personally think they might introduce Moonstone/Karla Sofen, who can potentially be as strong as Carol and can giver her a run for her money. She could have a similar background as Carol as well.

For those of you who don't know, she gets her powers through a Kree gravity stone found on Earth's moon, and they can make her a brainwashed Kree weapon in the movie (like Carol was in the first one) that the Kree are using to take revenge on Carol.

On top of that, Karla later becomes a member of the Thunderbolts and has an important role in the Dark Reign storyline, which is what the storyline they seem to be doing in the next Phase (along with the multiverse stuff in Wandavision, Loki, What if...?, Spider-Man 3, Dr. Strange 2 and Ant-Man 3).

What do you think? What are your theories for CM 2? Do you agree with any of my theories?

Ideas for who Zawe Ashton's villain can be in Captain Marvel 2

We know Zawe Ashton has been cast as the villain of Captain Marvel 2. If you've seen her in Fresh Meat or Velvet Buzzsaw, you can see she has range in terms of the type of character she can portray, so I've compiled some ideas for who she could be playing and how they can be adapted for the MCU.

Karla Sofen (Moonstone):

Karla is pretty much the perfect foil for Carol. Like Carol, she came in contact with an artifact connected with the Kree which gave her powers, but rather than her motivation being to help people, she decides to use her abilities for her own selfish ends. Carol's main goal is helping people, it's why she joined the air force. With Karla, her main philosophy is to look out for herself, and helping others is only a hindrance. While Carol was a pilot, Karla's a psychiatrist.

I really like the idea of Captain Marvel 2 exploring Carol's desire to save everyone and how that desire is both her greatest strength and her greatest flaw. Karla can serve as a character who tries to convince Carol that her goal is futile. Karla can believe that no matter what Carol does, not only will she never please everyone, but she's never going to be able to save everyone, so she might as well give up being the hero and start looking out for herself.

What would make Karla a perfect villain for Carol is that not only is she on the same power level as Carol (plus has the addition of intangibility), but her main strength is her manipulation skills. Karla is a psychiatrist, she knows how to play people like pawns, how to psychoanalyze them, get close with them, etc. This should be something the MCU should lean into. Someone who can strike Carol where it hurts.

As for Karla's goals, I like the idea of her wanting to escalate the Kree-Skrull War, acting as a double agent and manipulating both sides to the point where both groups end up wiping each other out. In her mind, she can view this as a way of actually solving the issue of the chaos created by the Blip: simply wipe out everyone and whoever survives can view her as a true hero. Or maybe Karla can view herself as the hero Carol can't be and is trying to take Carol's place.

Veranke:

In my mind, Veranke would make the perfect sympathetic antagonist for CM2 as her motivation can be 100% understandable. We already have seen what the Skrulls have gone through and what they want, so her goals can be simple: she seeks a true home for her people

Characters who I think would make great possible antagonists/villains for Captain Marvel 2

Here are some villains who I think could make antagonists for Captain Marvel 2. Characters who fit with the themes/subplots set up in the first movie and can progress Carol's arc.

Karla Sofen (Moonstone): She's pretty much the perfect foil for Carol. Like Carol, she came in contact with an artifact connected with the Kree which gave her powers, but rather than her motivation being to help people, she decides to use her abilities for her own selfish ends. Carol's main goal is helping people, it's why she joined the air force. With Karla, her main philosophy is to look out for herself and helping others is only a hindrance.

Like Carol, Karla is determined to reach her fullest potential and doesn't like to be controlled. Both have gone through struggles and have been underestimated/looked down upon, but Carol's didn't change her as a person while Karla's made her a worse person. Unlike Carol who's more a straight-forward fighter, Moonstone is a manipulator, a gas-lighter like Yon-Rogg. She's basically if Carol had the worst aspects of the Kree.

I really like the idea of the Captain Marvel movies exploring the theme of finding freedom from the manipulative forces in life/war as well as not succumbing to becoming more like your abusers, so a manipulative villain like Karla who shares many qualities with Carol would be perfect. Someone Carol or maybe even Monica could genuinely trust before they realize Karla is simply pulling their strings.

Michael Korvac: With Korvac, I feel like leaning into the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes version is the perfect direction to go with the character. Like Carol, he was a normal human before he was kidnapped and experimented on by the Kree, turning him into an incredibly-powerful superhuman. While he wishes to return to a normal life, he also seeks revenge against the Kree for what they did to him, leading to countless deaths in his pursuit of vengeance. He's unstable, he has difficulty controlling himself or his reactions, and he has severe trauma.

Him as the villain of the second movie not only makes him a great foil for the Kree, going from a group of villains who value being emotionless to a man having difficulty controlling his own emotions, but it would make him a great foil for Carol.

Like Carol in the first movie, Michael has memory issues and his mind is a little disjointed from the experimentation, but with Korvac, it's to an even worse degree. He's

WANDAVISION CRACKED!

I have cracked it, and before y'all get too caught up, yes the one comic cover has Mephisto but he still has nothing to do with the show. Buckle in this will be a long one but worth the ride.

Ok, so it started with rewatching all the commercials, then the episodes and it got me realizing the show is creating Wonder Man.

So, episode 1, a few things stand out as important. First the date, 8-23-1950. And yes that calendar is from 1950, though I do not think the year is as important as the date. So, Avengers 23 deals with Vision and Wonder Man fighting because Vision is frustrated about not having his own identity but being a duplicate of Wonder Man.

Then you have Wonder Man 23, in which the title is "Nothing's Dead Forever".

Lastly, 238 (Day, Month) you have Avengers 238. In this comic (Which also has Monica or Photon on the cover) recovering from an epic battle with Annilhus. The main villain in the comic is Moonstone, who is a psychiatrist who manipulates her patients into paranoia. Keep this in mind as well.

All this ties in with the theme of a broken Vision, and a sort of ressurection. But, we need to go a little further here. In the commercial, we see a reference to Wanda's past trauma with the Stark bomb, however there is more to this if we dig deeper.

The old toaster, the design on it is similar to the design on Wonder Man's first costume. There's a line in the commercial, Forget your past, this is your future now. The new toaster, which some have speculated looks like a face, specifically Visions face, pops up with two pieces of toast. I think at this point we're veering away from Wanda. Remember this.

The next commercial is about the watch, which we all know is referencing Strucker and his experiments on Wanda and Pietro. The watch is also set at 2:42. Avengers 242 is about Vision regaining his ability to walk, and leading the Avengers to an unknown energy source, which leads them into the Secret Wars. We also see a sort of, brainwashing comments being made about "It's all for the kids". And we're briefly introduced to Dottie, who instills fear in everyone in the neighborhood. Fear... paranoia... sound familiar? We also see the helmet of Wonder Man's Brother the Grim Reaper buried under the house in the opening sequence. A reference to a Vision comic where he created a wife and kids for himself, only for his wife and son to go off the rails, and in one of the stories killing and burning Grim Reaper under their house.

We then see Vision b

If the fi
