Curing Death: The Travel and Research Journal of The Crow

13th of Rain’s Hand, 4E 201

The Day of the Dead celebrations are likely beginning back in Daggerfall but I’m out here all alone and ironically, I feel quite dead inside. The weather here is too rainy and cold to make travel appealing so I’ve holed up in what appears to be an old abandoned cabin. It’s not much but it’ll keep me dry.

I decided to start a journal to- well I don’t really know. I guess I want someone to talk to… to tell my story to… I guess this will have to do. Heh, perhaps one day I will be famous and this journal can tell my tale to others. So maybe it’s for them that I write this…

In any case, my name is Crow. I’ve decided to forsake my old name. It belonged to a girl that doesn’t exist anymore. I chose Crow because, well I like crows but also they’re associated with death and a sign of bad things to come and I don’t know, that seems to fit.

So I guess, I’ll tell my backstory. I relive it every day so there doesn’t seem to be much harm in doing so one more time. Plus, if I do ever show this to anyone else then it’ll put things in context.

I was born on a small farm in High Rock on the 13th of Rain’s Hand, 4E 179. That’s right, today’s my birthday… Awesome, I know. Anyway, my father was a farmer who made his living by selling crops to a nearby village and my mother… well, she was just there. When I was born, my father was disappointed that I wasn’t a boy. I know this because he told me all the time. He had hoped for a strong boy to work and one day take over the farm but he still loved me and had plans for me. When I was still young to do much protesting, he sent me to the village where there was a temple dedicated to Arkay, the god of life and death. My father was a devout follower of Arkay and a patron of the temple so he saw it worthwhile that I at least become a priestess.

My first few years at the temple consisted of me just keeping things clean, sweeping the floors, washing windows, those sort of things. Then I upgraded and was allowed to go fetch things for the others. Over time, I learned about Arkay’s teachings, the philosophy of the circle of life and all that nonsense. It wasn’t until I was nearly grown that they began to teach me actually useful things like Restoration magic and Alchemy. Still what I was allowed to do with this knowledge was limited and most of my duties consisted of menial labor and trips into the village for supplies.

Last winter was especially bad. Colder than any I remember and the sick and poor flocke

I'm going to write an argumentative paper on comparing the effectiveness of psilocybin and anti-depressants on reducing depression. If anyone is willing to share journal articles/research papers, I would greatly appreciate it!

I am writing a paper on comparing the effectiveness of psilocybin and antidepressants on reducing depression and related symptoms.

This is for one of my university classes and we are required to write this paper throughout the next few months.

At this point in the class, I'm just instructed to get my controversial question on paper. But as I'm genuinely interested in this topic I'm trying to work a head a bit.

I've done mild research on this question and have found mixed results; which in a way is what I want (having opposing views to then counter argue is essential to an argumentative paper)!

If anyone has seen any research papers and is willing to share, I would really appreciate any other research to read!

I found the journal of a scientist who worked in The United People's Institute of Science. His research was compromised by an escaped prisoner.

IIIIIIIVV

May 6th 1988

When I first woke I was certain that I was in the middle of an earthquake. Being prematurely brought out of sleep with the medicine still in my veins had all the makings of a seizure, but by the time I calmed my nervous limbs I recognized the sound coming out of the abyss. It was the middle of the night and someone was knocking on my door. Their fist had the ferocity of a jackhammer.

Beyond the blinding lights of the hallway I could see the scarred up face of a Soviet soldier. The United People’s Institute of Science did not require my attendance today, the man barked, air ducts were being fumed for vermin and all of the research staff was ordered to stay inside of the Rusalka until the situation was resolved. The soldier didn’t wait for a response. He simply moved on to my neighbour’s door and started pounding it. Past the hallway I could hear the gruff voices of his comrades repeating the same message to my colleagues.

My mind was still half-asleep. The slow drip of calmness from a sudden day off overshadowed any absurdity of the Institute being closed down. It wasn’t until my head was rested on the pillow that the realization gripped me — the tenor of science being done at the Institute was far too important to be halted for something as trivial as the cleaning of air vents. Something had gone wrong.

The realization of foul play was quickly followed by the realization of my impotence. There was nothing I could do. As terrifying as the prospect of something going wrong at the United People’s Institute of Science was, the question was fully out of my purview. My responsibilities in the Institute were wholly centered around Reel X04-22. I was not to get involved in any unrelated matters.

First I tried going back to sleep, then I briefly considered an early dose of the syringe but finally I settled down at my desk with some spare paper. To take my mind off of whatever was happening in the halls of the Instit

This paper is an accumulation of research I conducted over a 3 year period for my MSc.

Until now there have been no previous studies detailing how lucid dreaming & living practices can be used to help people with mental health issues like depression.

Please do share the full article with anyone who may benefit from its contents.

I’m on a mission to get lucid dreaming into the lives of as many people as possible!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to everyone who has supported me on this journey!

I know this is just the beginning of something much bigger than I can even currently comprehend…

I found the journal of a scientist who worked in The United People's Institute of Science. He has been privy to some disturbing research.

IIIIIIVVVI

November 5th 1987

The coffee here tastes like gutter water and I caught a nasty breed of bedbugs on the train — but I have arrived. Tomorrow is my first day at the institute.

I have never been an organized man and the excitement of the sudden move did not help. There is a variety of objects that I had forgotten to pack; one of them being my journal. The terms of employment at the institute forbid the keeping of any unauthorized written record, but that ban surely doesn’t extend to private literature. I have no intention of ever publishing anything in this journal. My only aim is self-reflection so that I can wholeheartedly commit the rest of my mind to the research I have been summoned for.

I have few illusions about privacy in my line of work. My luggage and body were thoroughly searched on arrival and surely the institute has spooks that will search through my room on a regular basis, but I think I have found a spot that even the most curious of KGB agents wouldn’t stumble upon. Here’s to hoping that my hypotheses about the intelligence of the institute’s muscle are correct.

There isn’t much to write about the initial impression of the locale. I may have spent three days on a train to get here, but all places under the Union’s sphere of influence are the same — cement, factories and an underlying sense of dread. The people here just use a harder form of liquor to cope with reality than back home.

When I arrived at the hotel I saw one of my future coworkers in the lobby. The man had dropped a couple kilos and his hair had turned grey, but I recognized him immediately: Dr. Markarov, Romanian biologist specializing in tissue regeneration. I had met him a couple years prior at a conference — friendly fellow, great sense of humor.

The man that sat in the lobby of the Rusalka tonight, however, didn’t seem to be in the mood for jokes. As soon as he noticed me he looked away. The whole time that I was dealing with the front de

Hello Travelers!

I wanted to post a new update, I'm up to chapter 10 and I feel like this one doesn't have any major spoilers (well any more than normal things you find traveling) so I figured I'd post. Chapter 11 definitely will. But hopefully by then there will be a bunch of watercolor pictures added!

Yup, I've been trying to illustrate this. I am super behind but at least I'm drawing and painting so... that's something?

So here we go! Chapter 10:

The last international trip before the COVID-19 outbreak, travel journal 117 pages of text and drawing (Andorra-Toulouse-Barcelona)-Part One

Here are my travel journal, recorded in the form of drawing and text (Chinese). The route is from Andorra-Toulouse-Barcelona, and date from 30 Dec 2019 to 10 Jan 2020. The following translations are from DeepL Translations. AMA Reddit.

Due to 20 images limited, this is part one.

★★★★★

At the end of 2019, my wife and I embarked on a cross-country trip to Europe, choosing Spain again really because of a particular interest in the food, architecture and history and culture. Who knew that this would turn out to be our last cross-country trip before the COVID-19 epidemic. Continuing to use hand-drawn, it took about half a year to write down this ten-day trip, I have tried to translate most of the Chinese in it.

Postscript.

We returned home well after this trip to Europe on 10 January 2020. Two years later, the global epidemic has not yet seen any radical improvement, and although our country has achieved a dynamic zero and a universal third dose of the vaccine, the situation abroad remains bleak, so travel abroad is still a long way off, hopefully with limited outbound travel next year. Our Airbnb host in Andorra, who graduated from medical school, volunteered in Andorra after the outbreak and I sent him an English version of the latest treatment and prevention protocols for Covid-19 in China, which he said was a great help to the local hospital. He also had the unfortunate experience of dying from virus, but after a 20kg weight loss, he finally came back from the dead and is now slowly recuperating.

We have all experienced a lot of sadness throughout the epidemic, only travel can heal our hearts, and I sincerely hope that the worldwide epidemic will be brought under control soon with the help of vaccines and effective drugs and active prevention and control methods.
