A list of puns related to "John McLaughlin discography"
Challenging myself to transcribe that face-melting first solo in the Mahavishnu Orchestra's Meeting of the Spirits. Mostly straightforward pentatonic licks, but there's one thing I'm having trouble with -- maybe someone with a better ear or insider knowledge can help!
At 1:43 in the video linked below, there's this gnarly sounding bit of F#m7 arpeggio -- how does that happen? It sounds like F#>A>E, (I'm starting at 9th fret, A string) but there's more going on there harmonically.
Power chords are clearly wrong. Playing them as stacked 4th dyads (C#>E>B below, inverted 5ths?) with enough dirt sounds decently close, but still wrong.
Or... is it just some tube-to-tape magic? Am I overthinking this and just need to buy a plexi and crank it to eviction levels? What do you think -- what's the secret, fuzz or fingering?

This is a long shot, but does anyone know what pedals/effects John used in the early 70s?

Solo starts at around 3:20. Almost has a laser beam sound to it, I don't know how else to describe it. It's almost like a dynamic phaser that begins the phase on hitting the string or something.
Any recommendations are welcome!
Is it just me or does that episode seem hurried as if there was much cut out and it would've made for a great two hours of television, if done properly?
I just feel that they glossed over the characters too quickly. I don't even recall them getting to Robin's character, or actually talking to either Diane or Lilith. They talked about the ladies but not directly to them and no mention of Kelly's character nor did I see her on the stage. Sure she wasn't a regular during that time, but then again, neither was Robin.
I feel it was a wasted episode that could have been so much better to hear stories and such from the cast. But that's just my opinion and it was great that Shelly returned for it. I had such a crush on her when I was younger.
Like Dean Town vs Teen Town
He killed two at Rocori High School and aimed a gun at a third but surrendered.
There are so many moments in that album that made me really take notice, think damn and start bopping my head....the coverage of so many genres and sounds was really exciting, and from what I can tell all of the musicians were extremely skilled.
What are some albums in the same or adjacent veins that I should explore next to further my appreciation of jazz and its offshoots?
Elegant Gypsy: If anyone has this album and is willing to sell it for anywhere between 5-15$, preferably NM or VG+ for both media and the cover. Anyone in Canada would be my preferred option but those in the states work fine too.
Friday night in San Francisco Live 1981: This album from anywhere between 5-20$, again preferably media and cover NM or VG+, shipping in Canada but the states can work too
