Everytime I see a post relating to rap music or hip hop it always has toxic responses and getting hated on. Rap music/ hip hop is also a music genre just like every other genre, this doesnβt make it better or worse in any way.

It just doesn't strike a chord with me.
Just closing yourself off a whole area of music seems ignorant. Usually itβs just tells me you just listen to the same songs/bands on repeat. Thereβs plenty of good music coming out all the time. Some of it is shit, but it has always been like that. Itβs not like music has gotten terrible as a whole. Also with todays availability, itβs pretty easy to find something youβll like.
Yes, you can listen to Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Paul Anka and a lot of old school stuff. But that doesn't mean modern music is "not real music" and that music is getting worse. As a matter of fact, I should be able to listen to what I want and not feel judged.
Edit: Alright, this post is getting out of hand.
From people missing the point to people assuming things about my life, I've never felt so confused.
I'm French so bear with my broken English lol
As I said multiple times, I have a very eclectic music taste going from classical music to more contemporary stuff such as Serge Gainsbourg or Stevie wonder to the latest mainstream artists (Tyler the creator, Kanye west, even Billie Eilish). My point is that people are biased and refuse to listen to modern music. And yes, a lot of people might relate to the things I said which is why I received so much hate.
For the people saying I don't know music. I was in a conservatory (is that English? I mean music school) from the age of 6 to 14, so, as you guys may have guessed, not long ago. I have learned music theory through classical music for years. I know most of the people reading this have also learned music the way I did so it's nothing special. But I'm just trying to explain that I am not an uncultured kid that only knows "mumble autotuned rappers" (?!) .
Now yes, I'm only 16, I don't have much experience. But that doesn't mean you should treat me like you were superior to me.
"Modern music has meaningless lyrics" To pimp a butterfly by Kendrick Lamar is probably one of the most grandiose and profound albums I've ever heard in my life, both lyrically and musically. It was released in 2015.
"Modern music is full of autotune" I'm pretty sure the people who say this refer to Melodyne. Which, doesn't bother but can bother people and I fully understand. Now, autotune is mostly used for stylistic purposes, T-Pain has a really beautiful soulful voice, but uses autotune because it matches what he wants to make. Kanye's 808's and heartbreaks is mainly based on autotune and has set the standards for cloud rapping.
"Modern music is all the same" This is probably the worse I got here. Let's run it back to the 80's, MOST mainstream songs were similar, the same mixing, the same annoying reverb on the snares, the same synths. Do I consider the 80's as a bad era for music ? Hell no, Michael Jackson's groundbreaking thriller album changed the music landscape with his music videos. Prince's 1999 album influenc

You had artists like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins and many more. They made good music that made you feel something, now what do we have. We have absolute dog shit, country was never my favorite genre of music but I still appreciated it. The new country literally fits the stereotype of what country music is, they sing about being red necks drinking beer and fucking hookers it's absolute dog shit. Idk I just think it's disappointing
What are your unpopular music opinions?
I would have to say that country was never that good in the first place. Only a few artist such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Randy Travis etc. were the only likable country musicians for me.. besides that, country was always weak for me.
Context, I M30 have been married to my wife F37 for about six years. We got married quickly, due to me being active duty, and she ended up pregnant soon after. Marriage goes on, another beautiful baby, etc. But the entire time one issue (for me) persists, her music career.
My wife is a trained Opera singer, and very disgruntled that she had to give up consistently gigging to raise the kids.
Due to the fact that singers often charge as contractors, we get hit heavily on taxes for her music, which often pays relatively low (80ish pre-tax for about 3-4 hours). She would often book gigs even on days when I was "Port & Starboard" duty, leaving me with the kids after what was essentially a 36 hour long workday.
Recently she booked a show, which I was happy for her about. The show ended up taking place over 3 months, with my wife driving about 25 miles each way (with a $5 toll one way). It also paid a total of $300, and my wife was gone from the time I got off work until 11:30 - 12:00 most nights. She also made sure to go out to eat after every show with her friends.
When I argued about this, I was told that I just don't care about her happiness, and that she deserved to be able to perform because she had watched MY kids while I was deployed. She also gets mad and says I just don't want to watch my own kids, which I guess is fair.
The music has gone to the point of us needing to pick our next house based around her being able to perform, as I've gotten a work from home job. This will put us in a city or small suburb, which I've repeatedly expressed not being interested in.
She also argues that I was aware she was a singer and should have been prepared for this.
Idk, I feel like I both am and am not the asshole.
Edit: For those of you who are curious, I am indeed the asshole.
Edit 2: Alright y'all, I've got some working on myself to do, but I knew that coming in. This is going to sound whiny, but some of y'all are a little mean, so I'm going to take a break for a while.
Also if you decided to look at my other posts, upvote the bug. He's my third favorite little guy.
Edit 3: thank you for being nice to the bug. π
Edit 4: I am definitely getting good feedback on how to make the situation easier on myself, and to make me less of an asshole. Most have agreed, I just need to find things I like outside of work more and make room for them, so I don't feel so resentful that my wife has a life and I don't.
Please keep giving me suggestions on ho
