A list of puns related to "Americana Music Association"
I happened to be watching the Americana Music Awards on TV tonight and Jim Lauderdale introduced Robert Hunter as the Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Robert gave a nice short speech, then performed Ripple.
Afterwards, Jim Lauderdale said that it was Robert's first public performance in a decade. He also said that Robert wrote Ripple on the same day that he wrote Brokedown Palace and To lay Me Down, all in the same London hotel room. He joked that he's been meaning to ask Robert what the room number was so he could try to write a years worth of great tunes in a day.
By the way, Jim Lauderdale has written a whole bunch of tunes with Hunter, and he has a few CD's out that are all Hunter's lyrics. I have been digging the CD's "Patchwork River" and "Reason and Rhyme" for a while now. I need to get "Carolina Moonrise". All 3 of these CD's have lyrics exclusively by Robert Hunter.
I fell this is a really great article highlighting a lot of the Black women, whose music I've fallen in love with, and the opportunities they got to have this year which has been amazing to see. Give it a scroll, you might find a new artist to listen to.

Artists such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, more recently Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell
What better way to close out a year than to reflect back on the best songs from a decade ago?
While cleaning up my Spotify playlist recently I found one titled βNinebullets.net Best Of 2011β and that was the genesis of this show. I took it and whittled it down to my favorite 10 songs and present it to you now. Perhaps this will be a trip down memory lane for you or perhaps youβll find something you never heard before. Either way, join me for an hour and we recall some of the cream of the crop from the 2011 underground (alt)country music scene.

My sister was surprised to learn that I have an appreciation of country music. I just don't like modern/pop country. I told her about how I like old country, Bluegrass, and Americana. There is a particular NC Appalachian accent female vocal sound of Americana that I really love and have seen a couple bands doing it over the years, but I suck at remembering band names. Could y'all make some suggestions for me to send to my sister?
Edit: So this is the style of singing I am talking about. Both of these women are incredible, but I know there are newer bands out there with this style.
I'm not sure if that's a musical genre per se or if it's an umbrella term. Anyway, the idea that I personally have of it are singer-songwriters with mostly folk roots that give...an american atmosphere? I was recently listening to Chelsea Wolfe's Birth of Violence and I felt a genuine american feel.
Do you like it? If you do, can you recommend any albums? Cheers!
Hey, I'm looking for more music with a really specific vibe - I would call it hard-edged Americana or Folk, but maybe there's a real name? Some examples:
"Bottom of the River" - Delta Rae
These songs' genres are just listed as "alternative" but they have such a distinct sound.
Things I'm NOT looking for: music where the artist compares themselves to a cowboy or an outlaw; music which references cowboy stuff but is otherwise unrelated, like Desperadoz and the majority of country music; or incredible cowboy tunes like Big Iron by Marty Robbins, which is amazing but not quite the sound I'm looking for.
Welcome back everyone to the second CountryMusicStuff live discussion chat of the Country Music Association Awards! Show starts at 8/7c on ABC. Hopefully this will create a place for people to discuss the show in real time and maybe reduce the number of posts that would fill up the subreddit. Feel free to drop in and comment your thoughts!
Tonight's host will be Luke Bryan and you can see some of the awards already announced below:
Enjoy the show everyone!

A playlist of local lexington music sourced by the Local Lexington KY Music facebook group (with a few of my tunes as well) created for the purpose of listening and undersanding the local scene - with the end goal of being a catalyst for a more meaningful connection with musicians in the city. If you are looking to learn more about music in this city may this act as a first glimpse. I'm going to be making more of these as I discover more musicians in other cities. If you have any suggestions for more Lexington bluegrass/americana musicians to add to this then comment below and I'll put em in!
