A list of puns related to "Jesus of Nazareth (miniseries)"
Hi my name is Kristin Romey and I cover archaeology and paleontology for National Geographic news and the magazine. I wrote the cover story for the Dec. 2017 issue about βThe Search for the Real Jesus.β Do archaeologists and historians believe that the man described in the New Testament really even existed? Where does archaeology confirm places and events in the New Testament, and where does it refute them? Ask away, and check out the story here: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2017/12/jesus-tomb-archaeology/

EDIT: Thanks redditors for the great ama! I'm a half-hour over and late for a meeting so gotta go. Maybe we can do this again! Keep questioning history! K
"And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, βDrink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiv..."
Sorry, we can't we must obey the Bible, and it says to abstain from blood. --- Jehovah's Witnesses
At Claudius 25 in Suetonius' Lives of the Twelve Caesars, we read:
>Since the Jews constantly made disturbances at the instigation of Chrestus, he expelled them from Rome.
What is the likelihood Chrestus refers to Jesus? What do most scholars say?
I have seen that many people claim that the existence of Jesus is almost universally agreed upon by scholars. However, skeptics say a few things:
The New Testament is an unreliable biased source.
Claims made by βbible schoolsβ or theology schools lack credibility compared to traditional university or academic works.
Anything written by people like Josephus (which many biblical scholars reference)lack credibility and most likely forgery.
So what are other extra-biblical source to validate the existence of the historical Jesus that people claim are almost universally accepted by scholars?
I just finished reading Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth and my mind was blown by the similarities between how the New Testament was written and how Mormon church history was documented. For example, both were written decades after the events they were documenting. Both seem to be heavily influenced by the time and context under which they were written. Both contain multiple accounts of the same events full of inconsistencies and contradictions.
Over 50% of the New Testament was written by Paul who claimed to have a vision of Christ but in reality knew almost nothing about the life, teachings, and ministry of Jesus.
I highly recommend this book to any exmormon who is interested in applying the same critical thinking that got them out of Mormonism to Christianity.
"Christianity, like all religious movements, was born from mythmaking; and nowhere is this clearer than when we examine the context from which Jesus sprang.
The supposed historical underpinning of Jesus, which apologists insist differentiates their Christ from the myriad other savior gods and divine sons of the ancient pagan world, simply does not hold up to investigation.
On the contrary; the closer one examines the official story, or rather stories, of Christianity (or Christianities!), the quicker it becomes apparent that the figure of the historical Jesus has traveled with a bodyguard of widely accepted, seldom examined untruths for over two millennia. The purpose of this all-too-brief essay is to shed light on ten of these beloved Christian myths:
MYTH No. 1: The idea that Jesus was a myth is ridiculous!
MYTH No. 2: Jesus was wildly famous β (but there was no reason for contemporary historians to notice himβ¦)
MYTH No. 3: Ancient historian Flavius Josephus wrote about Jesus - (He didn't write a single shit about Jesus of Nazareth)
MYTH No. 4: Eyewitnesses wrote the Gospels - (None of the Gospels were written by the eye witnesses or eye witnesses of the eye witnesses)
MYTH No. 5: The Gospels give a consistent picture of Jesus
MYTH No. 6: History confirms the Gospels
MYTH No. 7: Archeology confirms the Gospels
MYTH No. 8: Paul and the Epistles corroborate the Gospels - (Ironically the Pauline Epistles are the most convincing evidence that Jesus never existed. As Paul has no clue about the earthly existence or ministry or life, or trial of Jesus)
MYTH No. 9: Christianity began with Jesus and his apostles
MYTH No. 10: Christianity was a totally new and different miraculous overnight" - David Fitzgerald

So Iβve seen some posts of people saying all different things about Jesus.... but historically and in the context of Israel.... Jesus is nothing like people try paint him out to be....
.... the historical Jesus was Jewish and believed in the God of the Hebrews, the monotheistic God
The prophets of the Old Testament, they predicted a βMessiahβ, a saviour of Israel, the King of Israel, one who would bring peace to Israel in a troubled time, and thereβs many interpretation on scripture about this messiah would live forever and so on..... prophesies in Daniel 7:13-14 and Isiah 53
So the prophets predicted this........ and then what happens ? Jesus comes on the scene....
So Jesus came as a Jewish man, He came as a Jew and was born a Jew, He kept quoting Jewish prophets and the law of Moses etc.... in Matthew 5:18, John 10:35, Matthew 15:3 , Matt 22:31 , Matt 12:3.......... thereβs so much more but Jesus was 100 percent a Jew, these scripture passages show Him quoting Jewish prophets and Jewish law....
Jesus even came and said He is fulfilling the law...
Matt 5:17 βDo not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished
Jesus even stresses the law of Moses as it has come from God Himself, and that those that donβt practise it should
Mark 7:8-13 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.β 9 And he continued, βYou have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, βHonor your father and mother,βand, βAnyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.β
Jesus even attended all the Jewish feasts...
Passover Luke 2:41-42 Feast of tabernacles John 7:2-14 Feast of dedication John 10:22
And even said He is the Lord of Sabbath which was a huge claim to the jews, because only God is the Lord of the sabbath..
Matthew 12:7-9 If you had known what these words mean, βI desire mercy, not sacrifice,β you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath
Ok and another point that stresses the Jewishness of Jesus is that He claimed His Father, is the God of the Jews, the monotheistic Deity, YAHWEH...... this is a Monotheistic God....... not a pantheistic... a monotheistic Deity..
John 8:54 Jesus replied, βIf I glorify myself,
