A list of puns related to "Island Trees Union Free School District"
Just received word from the district. Union correctly identified that there are no consequences for students without masks, Covid rates and staff / student absences at schools are getting ridiculous, and social distancing requirements are impossible in 90% of Philly classrooms. At the beginning of break, the teachers union said itβs not safe to return until the district makes major and immediate changes.
PhilaSD explains that Phila Dept of Health and CHOP confirmed students should remain in in person learning.
A lot of other area schools scheduled virtual learning next week. Either way, 50% of the city is about to be pissed.
This is the straw that breaks the camel's back in the US, mark my words about it -- look at who is saying what at this point and also, parents are furious and rapidly becoming radicalized lockdown skeptics, in and out of Chicago, as they watch the teacher's union demand to teach remotely and Mayor Lori Lightfoot (no, really) refuse to let them and lock them out of their remote accounts: https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/05/us/chicago-schools-teachers-union-vote-remote-learning-wednesday/index.html
Joe Biden is expressing anger with them.
While there have been a few other stories on this, none since the updates inside showing the mass teaching lockouts from remote schooling and the President's statements, to say nothing of the widespread angry response from all across the country at this behavior.
This is what happens when you go just a step too far into righteousness, especially when now parents who actually are by and large essential workers are stuck home with kids, unable to go to work in their own "dangerous" workplaces -- where teacher's fear to tread? -- nevermind that bars, restaurants, and strip clubs are all wide open in the greater Chicago area.

Is it common for school districts to make people sign papers that state you will not unionize or else you get fired? They told us we wouldn't be able to work until we signed them and they had each of us go to HR, individually, to sign them.
On a side note, they also only pay us for 6.45 hours a day MAX because they don't want to consider us full time workers to avoid giving us any benefits. Do employers usually do that as well?
EDIT: Someone from the union here is helping me out now. Thank you so much to everyone that gave me information and reached out, like I said, I can't quit because I have a loan to pay but will hang in there best I can, or else I would have already quit and gone back to school.
Just now. Emergency meeting this morning. Union County Health Director issued a statement and a video this weekend urging them to mandate masks. They went in a totally different direction.
Also any children or staff currently quarantining can come back to school immediately as long as they're not positive.
We had almost 8k kids in quarantine as of last Friday. They're all coming back today. Quarantine numbers can't make you look bad if there's no quarantine.
Brentwood Union School District started classes this Wed Jul 28, and already has 15 positive covid cases after 3 days. The cases are among students and staff across 11 campuses. (The district did not disclose how many were students vs. staff, or which campuses.)

I find mine to be quite good.
The Ontario school district recently changed their rules so that union votes would be weighted along racial lines.
Their video can be found here.
The Twitter thread explaining the entire incident can be found here.
I havenβt seen coverage of this anywhere. This is something that should be concerning to all of us here on r/teachers, especially those of us who are in favor of strong and representative unions.
I'll be starting a job soon as program aide for my district's after school program, and with my onboarding packet, I got a pamphlet about joining a union. I know this might not be the exact right sub for this, but I'm kind of conflicted on whether I should join.
I'm 19, and this is gonna be my first job that isn't at a restaurant or summer camp. I've never had the opportunity to join a union, and my dad made a comment about unions being bad but didn't elaborate even when I pressed him about it. Would joining the union even when I'm just a part time program aide be worth it? I want to go into elementary school teaching, so this is a bit of a stepping stone for me and I wanna make sure I don't mess anything up or do something that would hurt me in the long run.
