Thinking about the victimology/criminology of this murder a few things stand out.
People murdered by someone they know well are typically covered up or an attempt is made to dispose of the body.
- Ishbel and Logan disposed of and covered up the murder of Gregor, but Charly was left at home, no attempt made to dispose of her body and no attempt was made to cover her over.
- Jean knows Charly intimately and Tony:Sonya are well acquainted with her, if either killed her it could be likely that some attempted might be made to cover her with a blanket, stage a break in or dispose of her.
Repeat offenders tend to stick to what they know will be successful in the cover up of a crime.
- Ishbel and Logan have killed and covered up a murder before (seemingly successfully), why not do the same with Charly?
- The MO of Charly’s murder is different
Male killers of a female victim are typically active killers (physical violence, strangulation) whereas female killers of any victim are typically passive killers (guns, knives, poison)
- In the flashbacks there doesn’t appear to be a violent or aggressive struggle when Charly is stabbed. Charly isn’t threatened enough to scream or call for help and there isn’t an immediate attack. Can we surmise she was not killed by Hamish, Logan, Tony or Freddie but by a woman in an unpremeditated attack?
Murderers often like to “discover” the crime - ingratiating themselves into the investigation and crime scene.
This leaves Alicia:
- found the victim but could have returned to the scene of the crime only to be disturbed by passing Ishbel
- calls 999 but dissociates herself from the victim “I found a body… I think she’s dead” Why not say Charly’s name? How do you know she’s dead if you haven’t checked? If your DNA is present why is it present?
- under pressure to buy up the land from the locals and very career focused
- antagonised by Charly’s opposition for any land sales
- prone to aggressive and violent outbursts, admitting to cutting Freddie with broken glass, aggressive outbursts towards police during interview
- admits to being at the Manse with hair fibres found at the scene
- admits to offering the victim money to keep quiet (where was this money, was it cash, was a cheque written?) was this a lie to cover up why she went to the Manse that morning?

Rule number 1 of going to any new ballpark: do not buy the TeamName Dog. It’s always going to suck.
