A list of puns related to "Ingsoc"
What is It: Ultra Ingsoc Is A Fictional Ideology, Where People Are Watched In Every Place Around the World, People Are Subjected To Slavery 23.9 Hours A Day, Executions Are Barbaric Such as Forcing Kids to Eat There own Parents, Money is Only Spent on Big Brother and the military and Big Brother Is God
So, I'm not saying anything new by stating that IngSoc (from the sexy pages of 1984) is the logical opposite of egoism, I just wanted to elaborate on that idea further so I can stop thinking about it.
One of the more important "goals" or "processes" in egoism is the removal of ideas and man-made concepts from their pedestals of supposedly self-contained existence. Essentially, egoism itself is mainly a move to put human thought back into the control of the individual human, great, cool, we get that.
IngSoc, in this vein, is interesting to me because it's the theoretical progression of events if you did that process in reverse. The people under IngSoc's Party aren't actually ruled by the Part so much - Indeed, even the Party doesn't seem to actually be free in any true, mental sense. That's because the people living under IngSoc are ruled by the very idea of totalitarianism itself more than any actual body, and that idea has its conceptual face in Big Brother. O'Brien says it best when he states that the Party wants "power for it's own sake", not meaning that the Party wants to have more power, but that they are further entrenching the concept of having power over another itself.
In other words, it's an ideology that doesn't just end up subconsciously being ruled by spooks like the ones that Stirner criticizes, it is an ideology that finally decides to just air out the fact that it is ruled by a concept above all else, to the point that they even gave it a face.
Again, probably something that everyone else already knew and put aside, I just wanted to put it into words for myself.
Just a random idea that came into my head.
Xi, the leader of the PRC, name is Xi. Which is the Roman number 11.
1984 is also a number.
The nature of power is that somebody always wants to be top dog. It keeps concentrating. Therefore cooperation between party members and/or nations is not likely to endure long term. For example when O'Brien has Winston in the Ministry of Love, he keeps saying "we" in regard to the party. How long is that cooperative "we" likely to last, before someone decides they want to take over and does something that inadvertently damages them? Something has to give. Kind of like a balloon bursting. Or a star collapsing.
In a hospital waiting room last week I noticed there was a copy of 1984 on the table so I started reading. As I'm in Germany, it was the German version. I noticed that Ingsoc is now EngSoz and it made me think of what Ingsoc is called in other languages. Do you speak another language and if so how would we say "Ingsoc" "Big brother is watching you" and the Slogan of the ministry of truth (War is peace, Freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength). In German it would be
Engsoz, Der GroΓ Bruder Sieht dich!
KRIEG BEDEUTET FRIEDEN
FREIHEIT IST SKLAVEREI
UNWISSENHEIT IST STΓRKE
I just want to edit this to say how much fun it is to read your contributions and how lovely it is people have continued to add so many different languages. It always lovely to see a new contribution pop up in my inbox.
Hi, I unironically love Ingsoc and want to basically sugar-coat an updated variant of it to sell to Americans. If youβre a Stalinist or Ingsocialist, hit me up! We already have a registered non-profit organization, we have pages and pages of theory, as well as a fully-fleshed-out state socialist ideology that takes into account cybernetic theory, class interests (why abolish them when we can incentivize collaboration among the classes for the greater good of the state), and where the inner party worships dialectical materialism.
My friends and I are always looking for new additions to our organization, and while they are more traditional ML state socialists, I personally love the philosophy of IngSoc and think likeminded individuals would help move our organization in the right direction.
