> Hugh Freeze, who has steered Liberty's football team to the best start in program history this season, has agreed to a new deal that sources told ESPN would place him among the top 5 highest-paid non-Power Five head coaches in college football.
> Liberty, as a private institution, doesn't release the financial details of coaches' contracts. But in ranking among the top 5 highest-paid coaches in the non-Power 5 ranks, that would place Freeze's average salary at $3 million-plus per year.
And for anyone who may have forgotten:
> Freeze, 51, was out of coaching for two years after resigning at Ole Miss prior to the 2017 season when school officials found what they called a pattern of improper calls on Freeze's university-issued cell phone. Freeze won nine games in 2014 and 10 games in 2015 at Ole Miss and beat Alabama both seasons. The Rebels won the Sugar Bowl to cap the 2015 season, but Ole Miss was hit with severe NCAA sanctions, including a two-year bowl ban, that occurred on Freeze's watch. Freeze was cited by the NCAA for failure to monitor his staff.
Ole Miss has failed to secure a winning season since his departure.

I would like to start this by saying I thought at the start of this year and still think that Pruitt should be given another year no matter the results of this season (on the field, if the cheating gets confirmed this obviously changes). If the NCAA is acknowledging this is a lost year for players and letting them keep a year of eligibility I think we need to acknowledge that should be similar for coaches too. Objectively this is a bad year for any school to fire any coach barring a scandal as it is exceptionally hard to recruit players, interview candidates, and evaluate how good a coach even is based on this fluky season.
Also, I have been seeing a lot of people asking for Freeze if Pruitt is let go due to violations. I don’t see any possible way the program could justify firing someone for violations only to turn around and hire someone who was fired from their last big time coaching job AND had their school’s wins vacated due to so many violations.
