Building a football club from scratch: 1908-1921
In the 1911-12 season, the English first division, in its 24th year, was won by Blackburn Rovers. Blackburn finished undefeated at home (11W, 6D) winning the league by 3 points. 3 year old Huddersfield Town were languishing in the second division. Dick Pudan managed Huddersfield in their first two years in the football league, achieving a 31.82% win rate in the second tier, barely surviving in 17th place of 20 teams, by just 4 points above Glossop and Leeds United. Fortunately for Huddersfield, Pudan was about to leave.
The next manager of Huddersfield was Arthur Fairclough. Fairclough achieved an improved 44.48% win rate, and established Huddersfield as a consistent second division side. Fairclough took Huddersfield from a 17th placed side to an 8th placed one in the 1914-15 season, finishing 5th and 13th in the years before. Huddersfield were now an established football team; but it came at the wrong time. Football was suspended from the 1915-16 season until the 1919-20 season due to the First World War. 6 Huddersfield players served, and two were killed in action, Sidney James and Larrett Roebuck.
One can only imagine the atmosphere in the dressing room upon the playersβ return. Though football could do little to ease the pain of the war, far better days were in store for Huddersfield.
The first season of football after the Great War was the 1919-20 season. Huddersfield were promoted to the second division, finishing second under new manager Ambrose Langley. Huddersfield played brilliantly, finishing 8 points clear of 3rd placed Birmingham with +59 goal difference, and losing just 6 games of 42. Unfortunately for Huddersfield, Spurs played even better, finishing the season with an incredible undefeated home record (P21: W19, D2) clinching the second division title by 6 points. Huddersfield also reached the FA cup final this season, knocking out first division teams Liverpool (4th, 2-1) and Newcastle (8th, 0-1) on their way to the final at Stamford Bridge. Only George Ramsayβs legendary 6 time FA cup winners Aston Villa could stop Huddersfield as they lost 1-0 in extra time at the Bridge. But this was merely the beginning.

After winning promotion and making the FA cup final, Huddersfield managed to stay u

Before looking at their Wikipedia page I didn't realize who this team was!
For those who weren't following the league a few years ago, Yeovil Town Ladies were a stalwart club of the Championship but weren't seeming to be at the level of the WSL which was quite shown when the league shifted towards full professionalism in 2019. Yeovil went into administration in the 2018/19 season and were set for relegation to the Championship, but were unable to secure a 2nd division license and so they landed in the 3rd division.
The team went through a few name changes, from Yeovil Town Ladies to Yeovil Town Women (2019), and then to Yeovil United FC (2020). In March of this year Yeovil United merged with 9th tier men's side Bridgwater Town to form Bridgwater United.
For a team that has gone through a lot in the last few years, it's cool to see that hopefully there's finally some stability, even if it's under a new name. Also cool to see a team that in their final WSL season had trouble beating some Championship sides in League Cup, they beat a Championship side while playing in a tier below.
