A list of puns related to "Houstonian"
Moved away 10 months ago, but I still like to keep updated.
I miss the overall feeling of city pride, very much missing here in DFW. Also, the rap/hip hop culture/tradition is almost nonexistent here.
I do not miss the humidity. I love the freeway system here in DFW and the relatively short distances.
I was hit by a car with expired paper plates and no insurance. It's so nice to finally be one of you.
My wife is from the RGV and we spent Christmas with her family down there. Obviously, we hit up Delia's before we left, and I grabbed a few dozen extra to take into my office yesterday after we got back to Houston.
I sent an email out to the whole office saying I'd left some tamales from "Delia's in the Rio Grande Valleyβthe best in the state!" A little later on, a co-worker, who I'd never really spoken with before, came running to my office, looking genuinely emotional, to tell me she had grown up in Rio Grande City and to say "Thank you so much for bringing a taste of home. I haven't been back in a very long time and this made me feel like I was home for just a bit."
Now if only Ultimo Taco traveled better...
Driven far and wide around the US. Have experienced plenty of toll booths. Houstonians, though, display a particular phenomenon when it comes to them despite our world-renowned reckless driving behavior.
We slow down. Some of us do, at least. I'm talking EZ-tag lanes, no traffic ahead, no hazards to be seen. So, to those who do: why? What mystic, hidden force clamps those brake pads down when nearing a toll booth? What is it about a toll booth that makes you second guess is the speed limit really 65?
Hey hello,
As the title say, where does a filipina buy groceries that have the ingredients to make foods from home? So far, i haven't found a place that sells kalamansi, and is there a goldie locks somewhere in the area? Would like to know. I've been to alot of asian marts around my area and some are missing something or other.
Thanks in advance
After watching Judge Hidalgoβs press conference, I though she was way too generous to those of you who choose out of defiance to not get vaccinated. Someone needs to tell you this because it might just save your life. Someone that cares about you needs to have this come to Jesus talk with you before you end up in the hospital. The misinformation you choose to believe, out of ignorance, is putting your life, your familyβs life, and the lives of the public in direct danger. Weβre seeing a self inflicted new wave of covid thanks in large part to the unvaccinated. I canβt tell you how many times people end up in the ICU on their deathbed asking the doctor for a vaccine, and the doctor responding that itβs too late. You canβt just get a lung transplant when covid has literally eaten up your lungs. 350 new hospital admissions yesterday in TMC alone. You know each of these major hospitals only have a few ICU beds, right? 24 hour waits to get a bed in the ER. HFD ambulances having no hospital to unload patients. The healthcare capital of the world is begging for relief. Thereβs too many of you pouring in. This doesnβt have to happen when we have a vaccine thatβs 85-95% effective.
You may think you have the perfect immune system. Let me ask you this. What happens when you get into a bad car accident, fall down and bust your head, bust a vein in your brain, suffer from a heart attack, rupture a blood vessel, get a nasty cut on your arm, come down with a bad case of food poisoning, etc? What if not you, but a family member? Or a friend? Where do they go? Thereβs literally no room and not enough hospital staff to treat you.
And for those who believed, like I did, that I shouldnβt have to worry because Iβm vaccinated. Let βthemβ play Russian Roulette with their lives. Unfortunately, the choice to remain unvaccinated will help forge COVID-19 as a permanent healthcare crisis for humanity. These variants adapt. They eventually become resistant to vaccines.
This delta variant has a much higher infectivity rate (R0 of 8-9). Basic statistics tells us that without prior immunity or antibodies, thereβs no escaping this variant. Itβs a matter of βwhenβ not if.
For your sake, for the sake of your loved ones, please get vaccinated. Sometimes in this great country, in this great state, we get the ability β the right β to βchooseβ when in fact the βrightβ choice could not be more clear.
I made the mistake of saying everyone, I mean a good amount of people are defending him and blaming fans and organizers but it starts at the top.
Greetings phidparents!
Our book club just finished reading Children of Time (Includes the progression of a jumping spider civilization with a cast of multi-generational conciousness's as characters. 10/10 recommend!). I was wondering if any of y'all are in the north Houston area (Conroe) and would be willing to meet our book club with any arachnid Ambassadors. I am so excited to see the folks in book club be sympathetic to these awesome critters and I would love to host one of y'all at our next meet-up (hosted at my home). There will be hot chocolate, mulled wine, and book people :p. Our meeting is December 11th and I would be so grateful to anyone willing to join us. I am happy to help with gas money if it helps :)
Thanks, in advance y'all!
So I just got married about 2 weeks ago, and I have a couple of tips for folks out there who are getting a bit caught up with wedding planning. I wanted to get these out while it's fresh in my system.
Don't get caught up planning every detail. It will all fall into place on the day of. Just think, every moment spent on obsessing on details is moment lost enjoying the planning or the day of.
Plan the week of the wedding accordingly. Plan a lot of downtime to just relax and be during this time. If you're stressing about family, or if things are going to go right, time will go very fast and you won't be able to savor those precious moments before your wedding. Also plan where you're gonna get your nails/hair/etc self care done so you won't have to stress looking into it during the week of the wedding.
Figure out the photographer in the family and give them your camera/phone/etc. There are times your photographer won't be able to capture some moments that just come up on the day of the day of the wedding. Having a second person who's not only passionate about photography but also loves you will definitely give you more photo memories to treasure later on.
Day of the wedding, breathe. Don't think that you're missing out on anything, and just enjoy things as they go. That day will pass by really quick. Make sure you savor each moment.
Don't go on a honeymoon right away. I know it's tempting, after all the stress of wedding planning, but try to allocate spending more time with family, preserving your bouquet (you'll want to if you're wedding turned out great, I did mine with silica sand from Michael's), having some PTO to read all the congratulation cards, thank everyone who attended, catch up with people here and there, and enjoy looking at all the pictures and videos caught during the wedding. You'll want to schedule your honeymoon after doing all these so y'all can focus on getting it on and enjoying each other's company.
TLDR; here are some wedding tips you might find useful before the big day. Enjoy planning!

With the 2020 Census results out, Houston continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, adding many people from all over the country. For those who have lived here a long time, or those who have lived here a short time and tired of it quickly, I was curious what your candidate list of moving destinations looks like.
What are the major draws of the destinations you're looking at?
For myself, I've been eyeing the smaller cities of the Northeast; the Southeast (Atlanta, Nashville, Raleigh/Durham), but it feels too spawly and similar to Houston.
Houston's Independent School District has decided to remove John Henry "Jack" Yates' name from the football stadium and replaced it with George Floyd's name. To understand this decision it is important to understand who both men were. Let's start with Yates.
Jack Yates was a former slave and a minister who risked his life to learn to read while in slavery in Virginia. Yates married another slave named Harriett Willis before she was sold and moved to Texas. After emancipation, Yates and Willis were reunited and moved to Houston where Yates worked hauling freight. Yates and Willis raised eleven children in a home that Yates designed and built himself. Eventually, Yates was ordained as a Baptist minister and was the founding pastor of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church as well as Bethel Baptist Church. During his life, Yates helped purchase the land for Emancipation Park and founded College Park Cemetary. He also established the Houston Baptist Academy and Houston College. Yates was active within the Republican Party of Texas supporting more than twenty-five Black candidates over the years. Yates' lived the American Dream. He began with less than nothing only to lead an inspirational life. Yates is the sort of man we should honor.
George Floyd was a gifted athlete. He graduated from Jake Yates high school and attended college on a full athletic scholarship. Floyd lost his scholarship after his involvement in a suspected sexual assault on another student and returned home to live with his mother. Floyd got involved with drugs - both their use and sale - and was arrested and jailed multiple times as a result. For years Floyd terrorized, assaulted, and robbed the people living in the neighborhoods that surrounded the football stadium that will now bear his name. One of the more recent events took place at the nearby home of a pregnant woman named Aracely Henriquez. Aracely was there with her friend Angel Negrete and a toddler when an armed George Floyd forced his way inside. Floyd pressed the muzzle of his pistol against Aracely's unborn child and demanded money. When she cried out for help she was pistolwhipped in the head. Floyd admitted his guilt and was sentenced to five years in prison. He was paroled just seven years ago continuing his involvement with drugs and most recently counterfei

Looking to buy a house in SW, NW or W suburbs (Sugarland, Katy, Richmond, Aliana etc.) Can anyone who live in or near these cities comment on their experience with flooding during the last 3 big flood events? I have referred to the fema maps and floodfactor, but would love to hear from real people who live in these areas and their experience dealing with the floods.
Thanks π
I hate posting questions like this, but I hate Nextdoor even more.
I just bought a 12000 Watt generator, and just wanted to know if anyone can suggest a reputable electrician to install a transfer switch to my home/circuit breaker. Preferably around heights/oak forest/garden oaks area.
How much did the installation and parts for the transfer switch run you?
*Edit: thanks for the suggestions, y'all. Gonna start collecting bids
