Why is the Chinese Lion Dance called a Lion Dance when the Lion is the most dragon-like thing in the history of dragon depictions? The scales, the eyes, the legs, the beards, the head. Lions don't even exist in China, but Dragons are a big part of Chinese mythology. Why is it called a lion?

I'm thinking it can't be a lost-in-translation deal, because there is also a Dragon dance, and the dragon dance does look like a dragon yes, but there are also depictions of chinese dragons with 4 legs, like what is figured in Lion dances. Literally everything about the Lion in lion dancing is dragon-like in its design.

$DWAC Trump’s newest business partner: A Chinese firm with a history of SEC investigations

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/12/23/trump-spac-deal-sec/

Shanghai-based Arc Capital, an investment firm that has been the target of probes by securities regulators, is at the center of the deal to take Trump’s media venture public.

By Douglas MacMillan and Jonathan O'ConnellDecember 23 at 11:25 AM ET

A Chinese firm helping former president Donald Trump take his new media company public has been the target of investigations by federal securities regulators, who say the firm misrepresented shell companies with no products and few employees as ambitious, growing enterprises, documents and interviews show. Arc Capital, an investment advisory firm based in Shanghai, has repeatedly helped create or finance companies with little or no revenue, no customers and office locations that point to P.O. boxes, according to a Washington Post review of regulatory and court filings. One claimed to be developing autonomous drone software despite having no employees; another said it operated a publicly traded in-home bakery β€œspecializing in freshly-made cakes and cupcakes” before saying it pivoted into touch-screen technologies for a β€œdiversified blue-chip client base,” regulatory filings show.

The United States allows shell companies to be listed on public markets but requires operators to truthfully represent them as businesses with no active operations, securities lawyers said. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has accused Arc of deceiving investors about the scope of its operations, the locations of the businesses and the identities of the people behind them, documents show.

This year, Arc helped create Digital World Acquisition, an investment vehicle that has raised over $1.2 billion to conduct a merger with Trump Media and Technology Group. Digital World is what’s known as a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, a type of shell business that raises money from investors to acquire a private start-up with strong growth prospects. The deal, which still must be approved by shareholders and regulators, has the potential to enrich the former president and turn his nascent social media start-up into a public company overnight.

The Trump name has attracted investors, pushing shares of Digital World up five times their listing price in anticipation of the merger, despite a lack of information about the actual business. Trump Media has released two slide presentations as part of its proposal, but the material offers scant detail about compa

All Chinese Students in the US should be required to take a history class on the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989.

I've met a number of Chinese students who will bemoan the corruption in China, complain about having to be very cautious about the food they buy ( because it can't be trusted), and yet defend the status quo in China as necessary evil.

As minimum I think Chinese students in the US should have classes on why freedom of the press is a requirement for good government. The class should also include a piece on Tiananmen Square.

[History 101; 2017-2019] The Great Ghost Dance, Chinese Problems, The Treaty of Denver, and Seattle's Assimilation,

In the last [History 101]...

##2017: The Great Ghost Dance, the Lone Star rises, Triad War

On Feb. 2 of this year, four corporations in the UK banded together to form Transys NeuroNet. The reason for this merger was to combat the Japanese and American economic titans that were growing. Neuronet is probably most famous for being the corporation that has a great dragon (Celedyr in this case) as their head of R&D.

Almost two and half month later, on April 13^th, several earthquakes rocked China. These earthquakes collapsed the mountains that China had buried her nuclear arsenal under. Several of the contained nuclear warheads detonated, in turn causing more earthquakes and collapses, causing more warheads to detonate. By the end of the of it all, the Chinese government had lost almost all of it's nuclear arsenal.

May 9th brought with it the first privately owned space station, the Halo, being launched into orbit by it's parent company Harrs-3M.

During this time, millionaire playboy Clay Wilson was buying up Bartholomew Security, Inc. and Absolute Software, Inc. in Austin, Texas. These two companies merged on July 22^nd to form Lone Star Securities, Inc. While other security companies were closing their doors, Wilson was beefing up Lone Star's infrastructure, and within five years Lone Star had become one of the biggest names in the business.

In response to President Jarman's Executive Order 17-321 Daniel Howling-Coyote carries through with his threat to allow Mother Nature the chance to retaliate. On August 17th the unknown number of tribal shamans throughout the US banded together to perform the Great Ghost Dance. At 10:32 AM (local time) Mounts Hood, Ranier, St. Helens, and Adams simultaneously erupt. The US wished to respond to this by advancing troops on Howling-Coyote and the NAN, but freak weather occurrences hamper said advance at every turn for the rest of the year.

The corporate urge strikes again in the UK on Sept. 5^th, when British Imperial Chemicals merged with two other corporations to form Zeta-Imperial Chemicals.

On August 22^nd, the newly crowned King Kamehameha IV annoucned Hawaii's secession from the US and birth as the Kingdom of Hawai'i. The US, busy with the NAN situation, allows the islands to leave peaceably in return for the right to keep Pearl Harbor as an active US military installation.

In China at this time there wa

Does anyone know of any Chinese traditional/folk dance classes for adults in OC? I tried Google, but either I’m bad at using Google or it just wasn’t much help!

Hi neighbors and semi-neighbors!

Like the title says, I was wondering if anyone knew of any good dance classes for Chinese dance for adults or young adults. I tried to look them up on Google, but it returned precious few results, all of them dated from many years ago. I tried to call a few places, but no luck! (To be fair, though, my phone number is an Illinois #, so perhaps they thought I was spam?)

From previous experience, I know that lots of community-based dance groups won’t have a huge online presence, so I was hoping that maybe consulting you guys may prove more fruitful!

Thanks in advance!
