A list of puns related to "Ham Radio Deluxe"
Iβm sure this gets asked often but is there a good website with step by step instructions as to how I should have all settings on the transceiver and settings on laptop for this to work?
Iβve tried multiple times and am seeing all kinds of ways to set this up but I cannot get it to work.
History
Ham Radio Deluxe is software package that has multiple uses for the radio amateur. It was originally developed by Simon Brown (HB9DRV) around 2003 and was distributed as freeware. The software can interface with most transceivers that would allow control from the software. It allows the amateur radio operator to log contacts into a database that could be used later to verify contacts through various online and offline award systems. The software also includes a "Digital" software that allows encoding and decoding of various AFSK, FSK, CW and other digital messages. This is just a fraction of what the software had to offer. The software would combine multiple actions to allow for smoother and more enjoyable on-air experience with HRD doing most of the work.
In 2011, Simon's attention went from HRD to another project (SDR-Radio) and it was possible that development would cease. At this point, three amateur radio operators got together and purchased the source code from Simon. Since many people had financially supported HRD through donations, the last version (5.X) had to remain free.
In 2013, The new owners and developers at HRD released version 6.0. However it's no longer free. HRDsoft was now charging $99 for the software and 1 year of support. In order to obtain updates and support after the first year, the user had to pay $50 annually. HRD has since made improvements to the software and sold many units. Most of the customers were satisfied but there were bugs and issues with both software and hardware. There were customers who had issues with the software and allegedly received poor support from the staff.
Below is what unfolded after a HRD user asked for support just recently.

/u/dlichterman posted a thread with a link to QRZ.com's forums about a user who claimed that the Staff at Ham Radio Delxue (HRD) hacked their computer.
OP on QRZ posted documents to his support ticket. According to the ticket, HRD support "blacklisted" OP disabling his software. In order to have access to the software, OP was required to remove a neg
I had been using in the past HRD (more than 8 years ago) for rig control and digital modes (RTTY and PSK31) but it just doesnβt cut it for me anymore. What are the current alternatives to HRD today ?
Edit: Yaesu FT 450. Windows. I am looking for the same, rig control, memories, and working digital modes.
Here's a new one from the favorites over at HRD.
I started getting spammy renewal and product notification emails (for a product I haven't renewed in 3 years now) to an email address that was never associated with them. This went to my club email address (k2rwf@w2li.org domain where we use Google Apps for Non-Profits) - this email address was only created about 6 months ago - YEARS after I stopped using their software and "renewing" their services.
Are they now just scraping domains for potential email addresses? The only other thing I can think of is that they're either scraping email addresses from QRZ (I use that email address on QRZ as my contact email address), or QRZ is selling email addresses to HRD.
Anyone else dealing with their unsolicited junk emails? I'll never forget their "black list" scandal and Rick the diabetic, and will never again do business with them.
Reposting due to the title of the original post I deleted being perceived as ambiguous.
I recently came to know about this complaint (also page 2 and page 3) that was posted on the QRZ forum.
Apparently, someone had bought Ham Radio Deluxe, wasn't happy with it, left this negative but polite review on eHam, and called the HRD support center to try to get his problems with the software fixed. Then their staff told him to install a patch they sent him, but the patch actually disabled his copy of the software entirely. When he asked what was going on, he was told that his contract was terminated and shown the license that said they can do that for any reason.
The full events can be followed by reading the support ticket, which was posted as a PDF by the person involved and now re-uploaded here, here, here, here, and here.
The reason I'm linking to archived copies of all these things instead of the originals is that QRZ deleted the original thread including the attached PDF after this started to get some resonance. In this new thread, Ham Radio Deluxe staff tried to blame the user and deny wrongdoings, but after other users replied by asking why they threatened the user with keeping him on their blacklist forever unless he redacted his bad review, the thread was locked down ("not open for further replies").
There is also this other thread which is still open and which looks like "free complaints for all", assuming it won't be gone soon enough. (Edit: yep, it is now gone. Nice transparency, QRZ!)
It doesn't matter, anyway: before anyone is tempted to dismiss this story or even censor it from other places,
... keep reading on reddit β‘My equipment is listed above. I would dearly love to be active on PSK31. I have the latest version of HRD, .902.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm trying to connect my ts 440 with hrd but I've some problem: program cannot read the frequency. I've just installed uart 8251 and cd 4040. I'm using a zlp cable but nothing to do. Can someone help me?
Iβve been having having problems with LOTW timing out on uploads from HRD. Itβs only been going on the past 24 hours. I have the most recent versions of TQSL and HRD. Anyone else noticing this issue? 73, K4FTP
I thought for sure the search would have presented me with this thread, but no dice. I bought a cat cable for my 857d, and was wondering what you all thought would be the better rig control suite, HRD or DXLab? Anyone used both and have an opinion?
hello
mandatory introduction: I am in Romania, and I don't have a license yet, until the mandatory test in april, nor do I have a radio, but I am studying for the test (CEPT Novice), and I am looking forward to doing Stuff with this radio black magic, other than gossiping on the local repeater which i am already listening to using an RTL SDR.
So my train of thought started from the station of PoorVille in BankAccountLand, headed to CheapRadio Station, and somewhat setteld on a course to a cheap UHF VHF rig, initially planning to make the first halt in BaofengLand, but then i read around about the harmonic emissions of those things, and how acording to ARRL tests, theres a 50/50 chance of me getting a bad one, so the verdict is still open on that.
On a more serious note, given the very limited budget and real estate,I decided to amuse myself on VHF/UHF because the HF and lower bands usually require some more form of financial investment, in both the rig itself and the rest of the ecosystem. So researching what i can do on those bands, i came across Satellite operations, and decided that borrowing an antenna analyser of some sort, and building a couple of yagis out of wire, and an az/el rotator from parts in the junk in and one of the microcontrolers myself would keep me amused for a couple of years.
but then i looked into ham radio deluxe, and how well it integrates with both az/el rotators, and radios to tune according to the doppler shift, and now i kind of dont look forward to waving a yagi around in one hand while fiddling with a cheap handheld in the other, so i was wondering if theres any cheap radio rigs that support integration with HRD. Remember how my train of thoughts started from PoorVille?
Does anyone use HRD with an FT817? I recently upgraded and have been having a few problems. Any help would be greatly accepted!
So I was off the air for about 8 months after my landlord found the antenna I snuck on the roof of his apartment building. Now I'm back and own my own qth. Finally got the station back together and upgraded to HRD 5.24.0.38, I can't for the life of me find the DX cluster now, I recall there was a button on the tools bar before but now no matter where I look, through every menu and setting I see nothing. I also can no longer change frequencies from HRD either. Stuff like switching noise blanker or the agc on and off work however. Nothing has changed with my hardware and wiring, I only upgraded HRD. Does this have something to do with HRD being sold and now they disable some features? I'm thinking about the paid upgrade to 6 pre-release but I'd like to be sure it would all be working again. For the record I have a Yaesu FT-450d with a west mountain usb plug and play interface. Seriously close to taking the plunge and getting an IC-7600 soon though. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
So I'm hoping to get my general ticket come this Saturday and want to be able to do some playing with my radio when I'm at work. Currently I have skype installed on both machines and I'm able to pass the audio to my laptop and remotely control the PC as far as settings/frequencies.
However this is the part where I'm running into issues. For some reason I'm unable to TX from my laptop (machine not physically connected to the transceiver) when I push the TX button. When I'm at my desktop (machine hooked physically to the transceiver via the USB cable) I can hit TX and it transmits just fine.
Does anyone have any good resources on setting this up?? I've read the manual many times and I seem to be doing everything right, but still can't transmit.
Transceiver: ICOM IC-7100 Interface: USB cable, directly connected to the transceiver Currently testing on internal network so ports and such should not be of issue.
Thanks for any help, super frustrating not being able to figure this out....
