A list of puns related to "Going Upriver"
(This is all In regards to the pre-industrial era) So I'm not so sure how common boats going down river to transport goods is, I imagine having a large and deep river is neccessary for larger hauls
But anyways I'm curious that if when there was a river that frequently had boats going down river to transport goods how those boats got back up river to transport its hauls again? Did they just sail back up river really slowly? Or did they constantly make rather cheap boats and send them on a one way journey downstream?
I appreciate any answers! Also let me know of any famous trade rivers that are examples of this! Thank you!
I put together two budget/entry level flyfishing kits this summer, a Western kit, and a Tenkara kit. I've just finished them tonight, so I figured I'd share, in case anyone was considering the same or similar setups.

Western: My Beginner's Western Flyfishing Kit
Here's hoping I have some photos of my catch to post soon!

Mostly Late Middle Ages scenario, with possible early Modern technologies (see below).
I reckon that they should be relatively small and have shallow draughts in order to be able to navigate rivers, but they must also be seaworthy.
The river in question is quite deep and wide, like the Amazon and (I think) the Mississipi and Danube (IIRC, the Nile is quite shallow). It's margins are very fertile, humid and dotted with cities, like Mississipi, Rhine and Danube, unlike the Amazon (rainforest) and the Nile (narrow strip of arable land, adjacent to desert.).
Mayhaps some sailing ships that could still use oars, like the xebec and the sloop, so they wouldn't be helpless in rivers?
Also, would it be reasonable to use some early modern sailing ships in a Medieval setting (without gunpowder/firearms) where there are no large inland seas like the Mediterranean? My reasoning is that if people couldn't rely on a relatively calm Mediterranean-like sea, they'd be pressed to develop some shipping technologies earlier.
I've found many references citing caravels going upriver, but without many details being given. Theoretically, could they be rowed up large rivers like the Amazon, Mississipi or the Nile? If so, how far inland could they reach?
I traded in options for for a while. I lost my ass for about the first year. Then I broke even for about 18 months. I made a fair amount of money last january on GME and BB options, enough to wipe out the money lost during my first year and then some. After January, I thought I could make more. I went back to breaking even, even when GME had it's climb back to March 10th. I made money on March 10th BTW.
After that I quickly noticed what many of you have also noticed. Options were almost always expiring worthless because the price was finishing at max pain. I tried to play with the options going to max pain, but the premiums had been jacked up so high there was no way to make more than the losses on theta.
That's the big guy now. Daily losses to theta. They are almost 3x the losses for GME than non-meme stocks, and other meme stocks are around 2x. It was then that I realized why options are so exceedingly poor to play on GME. It's trying to pilot a boat upriver, and the motor is shot and two of the props are missing. Buying shares and holding them is walking on dry land.
Is it possible to make money off options? Yeah, about 1% of the people that buy options right now are getting lucky and having the price go their desired direction so that the gains from options are more than the losses to theta. It's like playing a lotto ticket. Or... you could buy shares and it's like working a 9-5 job where the payday is $500,000,000. It's dull. It's boring. It isn't exciting. But you get paid the same amount in the end and you don't risk losing everything you've invested because of an expiration date.
But, don't take my word for it. Look at what the proponents of options said for the past 3-4 months:
You're not supposed to sell them. You are supposed to keep your options and exercise them to force purchase power in the upward direction.
The hedgefunds don't want us to buy options. Look at what all the hedgefund managers were saying was fucking them up.
Options are the only way to force MOASS because it's the only way to drive the price up.
Now look at what they are saying:
You're not supposed to hold on to your options til expiry. You're supposed to sell them when the price is driven upwards.
The money that the hedgefunds made from expiring contracts doesn't matter. It's DRS that is the problem because it takes too long.
The price wasn't driven down because of synthetic positions that are allowed to be made by market make
I was thinking about the theory that Rafe is combining Books 2 and 3. And I'm wondering two things:
Setup: Siuan shows up in Fal Dara with a captured Mat. She leaves with the Girl's team, and possibly also Moiraine. Rand is wandering in the wilderness. Perrin/Mat are sent after Fain, who is headed to Tear.
For the Girl's Team and Mat/Perrin things proceed as they do in Book 2, except instead of chasing Fain to Cairhain they're going to Tear. Rand is doing Book 3 things. Moiraine/Lan are on a totally non -book-related quest to get her powers back. Maybe she goes with Siuan and the girls and sends Lan to keep an eye on Rand, maybe they go off to a library together.
The Liandrin thing happens. Egwene gets captures/freed; and we get our first major departure from the books. Instead of the Girls team escape being interrupted but the Boy's Team fight they just walk to the boat. Domon takes them home to Illian, but the girls head to Tear to go upriver back to TV. Along the way they meet Avi. In Tear they notice Liandrin and start their Tear subplot.
Meanwhile Mat/Perrin/Ingtar have continued to track Fain much as in the books. Moiraine has gotten herself cured and decided Rand will end up in Tear, so she follows. Perhaps they meet up and we get Flicker, perhaps they don't.
Now everyone is in Tear. Things happen much as they did in the books, except Rand (now trained on the sword by Lan) has his blademaster fight with Be'lal in the sky above Tear, while Ingtar makes his stand.
EDIT: Upon reading the comments, I have some changed predictions:
Siuan probably takes a trip to Fal Dara, because why wouldn't you have more Siaun/Moiraine screentime? Mat stays in TV. The girls team goes back with Siuan as in the books. Perhaps, Siuan gets an inkling about the BA at this point, and gives her notes to the girls?
Perhaps not... I go back and forth on that...Mat going to Caemlyn means they need to hire Morgase/Rahvin/etc. for 2 minutes of screentime, as well as build sets. OTOH I can't get him to Tear otherwise. Perhaps Egwene dreams that he has to go to Tear, and it takes so long for him to get out of the Reds clutches that by the time he's there he can just happen to see the girls team get taken? Or perhaps he overhears a BA plot regarding the girls in Tear?
This is a theory I've been brainstorming for awhile, its why I think Aegon might be hiding their gender. It will rub a lot of people the wrong way. I didn't want to post it for a long time because of it, and I will probably not log in for a bit after I do (to reduce anxiety). But I'm just... entertained by the idea I guess, so maybe a few others might be too.
And yea its probably too much to to ask or hope people will keep an open mind, and enjoy it for what it is, despite its impending unpopularity. But I knew that going in, so that's my bad. Its theorycraft, and there's no way its going to be able to cover everything or prove it beyond a reasonable doubt... there will be reaching and there will always be other interpretations. But for those who can get past that it will hopefully be new and interesting and give you something to think about for a few minutes before the next thing.
Pronouns are a confusing issue in the text due to the subject, I will be using 'he/him' for Aegon just bc that's how it is in the story right now, despite this post's predictions of the opposite, which, if true we still don't really know Aegon's side of things or their preferences. In that respect I guess the title was chosen for being simple and catchy not necessarily accurate.
====================================
Part 1: Descriptions of Aegon
Let's start with Aegon's looks, keep in mind in terms of the timeline Aegon should be older than Jon Snow, even though we have a tendency to think of him as being younger. Yet he is described at different times as:
-beardless
-having eyelashes 'as long as any woman's'
-lithe
-shorter than Duck, with a lanky build (Tyrion assumes Aegon hasn't come into their full growth... but I think they are 18 or 19 at this point so they should be about at that point)
-pretty
-Griff warns Tyrion off from looking at Young Griff too closely - we the audience later assume this is to prevent Tyrion from catching on to the Targaryen heritage, but something about the scene doesn't sit quite right with me... at the start of the confrontation Aegon looks to Griff and says 'He knows who I am.' but as Tyrion progresses there are times when Aegon seems somewhat confused at the accusations, at least how I read it I guess).
-Arianne tells Lysono Maar, the spymaster of the Golden Company, that he looks like a Targaryen. Lysono replies that they are 'flattered. The women of House Targaryen are said to be without peer in all the world.' Arianne then

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Zrin was furious.
How dare that little git Zala make friends with the humans when he was supposed to be gathering intelligence to destroy them! They were an affront to his people. An affront to his authority! They were supposed to have sought his protection, so he could extract funds and technology, as is proper! They-
His comm beeped. They were here.
With an effort, he stopped pacing and forced his features back into the usual smooth, political mask of pleasant indifference, facing the door as it opened to admit two of the grotty little bald apes. Disgusting! At least the one on the left was wearing some semblance of formal clothing under the expected white uniform coat. The other one though was in some ugly, shapeless green thing that should never have been tolerated in his presence! No- calm, he would be calm even in the face of such an insult. Ignoring the green monstrosity completely, he returned the 'handshake' of the other, idly noting the strip of green polymer on its wrist.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Cox, I'm the medical lead for the outpost upriver, this is my counterpart Alex. I believe you're behind the recent attacks we've been facing, is that correct?"
Zrin almost choked on his rehearsed greeting at those words and quickly extracted his limb from the human's grip.
"I- what- how dare-"
"That's a yes, boss," Alex chipped in, cutting him off as he spluttered. Focusing on the green-clad human, he realised something about her face was harder than the doctor's. Predatory gaze, his mind unhelpfully prompted. Her band was red; did that mean something?
"Why?"
"You should not be here," Zrin hissed, abandoning composure. "You should come when called, like any other pet, and otherwise stay out of MY WAY! How dare you sit there with your box of damaged humans, making me look a fool!"
The doctor watched him silently for a few moments, before shaking his head and turning to the door, resting a gentle hand on Alex's shoulder as he passed.
"So, death by stupidity. What a waste." The doctor thanked the bodyguard by name as he opened the door; a few murmured words passed between them and both left.
"Get back here!"
"That isn't going to happen, sweetie. Who do you think re-attached his arm?" Alex smiled widel

Kingβs Landing, Year 136 After the Conquest
The city of Kingβs Landing had grown quickly since its founding, with all the growing pains that that entails. No longer the smallest city in the Kingdom, it remains smaller than Lannisport and Oldtown. Jaehaerys the Conciliator and his Queen did much to ease those growing pains.
Three hills dominate the skyline of the city. The highest, Aegonβs High Hill, named for the founder of the city, is home to the Red Keep, and dominates the south east corner of the city. This fortress replaced the earlier Aegonfort and took a total of 10 years to complete (35 AC - 45 AC). Itβs name comes from the red stone that it is made out of. Renovations have occurred since then, but as a whole it is much as it was completed then. Map (Ignore the Maidenvault, it doesnβt exist (yet?)) Below the Red Keep, fine accommodation for the nobles not living atop the hill can be found; the higher up the Hill the finer it would be.
The Hill of Visenya, named for the Conquerorβs elder sister, dominates the south west of the city, though it lies entirely within the perimeter walls. At its summit stands a large sept, built in the reign of Aegon the Conqueror and sponsored by the High Septon of that time. It has endured where other structures have not, and much like the city it serves as developed somewhat in piecemeal. It remains an impressive structure, though not the finest in the realm amongst septs. It does not cover the whole summit; a square is also present.
The Hill of Rhaenys, named for the Conquerorβs younger sister, dominates the north north east of the city, though it too lies entirely within the perimeter walls. It was once crowned by a magnificent sept, built in honour of Rhaenys after her premature death in Dorne in 10 AC. A towering structure, it was fortified by the Faith Militant then subsequently destroyed by King Maegor I Targaryen during the spell of confrontation between that King and the Faith. In its place, Maegor ordered the construction of a great domed structure to house House Targaryenβs dragons. Unsurprisingly, it was known as the Dragonpit. 77 Dragonkeepers were tasked with guarding it, though given the scale of it they are likely not the only people there. It was badly damaged in the Dance of Dragons, though work has started on clearing and repairing itβ¦

I started playing snow runner a week or so ago in an attempt to play online with my coworkers, and despite the crossplay incompatibility, I've gotten hooked on this game harder than sideboard trailer on your first heavy-duty truck. I've put in a number of hours in at Black River, completed most of the available tasks, and eyed the super-heavy mission trailers with a cautious curiosity. I learned valuable lessons both from the game and this community (shoutout to u/stjobe, I've seen you in almost every thread with loads of helpful perspectives that the game shields from new players). Some lessons include:
That last one I learned through stubbornness. Having delivered 6x medium and 3x long logs throughout Black River (spending more on trailers and trucks than I earned), I vowed to get my hands on a truly huge hauler before I attempted any further logging missions. My trusty ANK38 Civilian had handled most big hauling needs, but logging is a special beast that requires loads of power with multiple expensive add ons & trailers. After some research, I discovered the infamous Pacific P16 was sitting ripe for the claiming in the southeast corner of Drummond Island.
I only ventured to Smithville Dam last week, and found that Service Spare Parts were worth their weight in gold β quickly and easily clearing roads that opened most of the map. After my time in Black River, moving to a new map and operating (briefly) without a garage showed me the value of careful planning and resource management when venturing into the unknown. Having discovered that Drummond Island had no garage(!), I planned the P16 Southern Plunge. I went full Oregon Trail and crafted what (I thought) was the perfect super-caravan:
With 3x trucks, 1x crane, 4x service parts, I figured I would be prepared for anything the garage-less map could throw at me. If I came prepared, I coul

Wavebird, the Southern Seas
SjΓvull WylderrjorssΓan
Land! Land ahead!β
SjΓvull woke with a start and rolled to his feet, springing upright only a moment before Drynllaf. Dawn was setting the ocean fog on fire, and in front of them was an impenetrable wall of mist. It would burn away at the height of the day, but as the air warmed in the morning and cooled in the evening, the sea steamed, and it took clever eyes to see anything between the shifting coils and billows.
Their lookout, Jorfydd, was unequaled. SjΓvull couldnβt see anything at all through the mist, but he didnβt doubt Jorfyddβs word one bit.
βHeave to!β If they were close to shore, that maybe meant rocks, sandbanks, reefs, or an atoll. Only a foolhardy or desperate lord would sail blindly into that on the wind. The ship lurched as the crew obeyed, and SjΓvull sprung nimbly to the prow, where Jorfydd was perched gazing out into the mists.
βHow far?β
βClose, lord,β Jorfydd reported, with mild chagrin. βSnuck up on us, she did.β
βWell, you saw her before we hit her. Thatβs the important part,β SjΓvull commented jovially, prompting Jorfydd to laugh. He turned back down the ship. βFurl the sails and unpack the oars!β
The oars were stowed below the deck, and retrieving them took long enough for the sun to come up a little higher and for SjΓvull to finally see the land Jorfydd had spotted. It was close, indeed, maybe only a league away. He got an impression of heavy forests pushing right down to the waterline.
Drynllaf was standing at the stern with his hand on his sword, contemplating the weather, when SjΓvull joined him.
βGood day to find land,β he commented after a second.
βYou think the mist will hold?β
βA fog like this? Itβs a dawn-to-dusker, gods have mercy. With the sail down, we might even lose our pursuers.β
βKeep it down!β SjΓvull hushed him with a grin. βIf Vyrthr hears you, heβll lift the fog right this moment.β
Drynllaf harrumphed something that was almost a laugh. Vyrthr was the god of the seas, of weatherβ¦and of treachery. Every sailor knew why.
βStill. Iβd wager a coastline like that has plenty of hiding places,β he mused, glancing back over his shoulder. βRivers, coves, inletsβ¦a hundred places Wavebird can lose our pursuers.β
βOr be cornered by them,β SjΓvull reminded him. βWe canβt remain at sea for long. We need drinking water, so weβll have to head inland, upriver. And if they follow usβ¦β

Firstly, hello and welcome all!
This post is to be the first in a monthly series exploring the world of Golarion, storytelling and world-building utilizing Paizo's timekeeping system to chronicle current events and create various segments.
To those unaware, Golarion uses Absalom Reckoning (Avistan and Garund) and Imperial Calendar (Tian Xia) to organize and specify date, which runs concurrently with our own Gregorian calendar. For the purposes of these posts, I will be using the Absalom Reckoning unless exploring a character's point of view or a narrative scenario that would utilize a different timekeeping system.
Under Absalom Reckoning, the year is our own (2022) plus an additional 2,000 years, setting it at 4,722 AR.
Under Imperial Calendar, the year is our own (2022) plus an additional 4,500 years, setting it at 6,522 IC.
As the first in this series, I'll be spending a portion of this post lightly summarizing major events in Golarion rather than detailing specific events, expect later posts to cover events on a significantly more micro scale and be more concerned with fleshing pieces of the setting ways in which I hope to be useful to you all. (For example, I'd initially intended to detail how I imagine events for Irahai, leader of Mendev, had likely progressed over the three years of her leadership, and search for/create specific Demons and other named characters who may be used by GM's when storytelling in the region before bouncing to describing what I imagine the new House of Perfection is up to after it's renewal four years ago.).
With that out of the way, let us begin!
##The Basics
-Tar-Baphon has been imprisoned on the Isle of Terror for around three years (4719-4722), bolstering his forces and seeking ways to break out of his impromptu prison. By now, it would be fair to say the Orcs of Belkzan who made enemies with the Whispering One cult now actively need to fight off undead forces, or alternatively have just begun to notice the increase in attacks surrounding orc tribes are facing from this old enemy.
-The Runelords, Sorshen and Balarmius officially established New Thassilon around four years ago (4718-4722) and took their place as leaders, opposing each other both politically and morally.
-The Pathfinder Society has been established for four-hundred and fifteen years (4307-4722), currently their sights are set on Razmiran, having established the nation's first lodge in the city of Xer in Gozran 29, 4720 AR. This has

βAbout three degrees east of north? Thatβs a huge help, thank you! Yep.. Have a great one.β
Sammi ended the call and looked over to Samuel. He wasnβt using the haptic gloves or headset, instead sitting at the desk in the center of the planetarium and clacking away at his keyboard.

On the globe filling the display on the dome above, a dot appeared in southern Alaska and a line traced three degrees east of polar north, joining two dozen other lines. The Sams had spent the last day of Silia's deadline calling high schools, university astronomy clubs, and anybody else they could think of who lived in what was once western Canada and the northwestern United States. The Painter Observatory mailing list had been a huge help for this. For each call, they really only had two questions:
Did you see the meteor a couple of months back?
If you did, where on the horizon did it go?
Each data point got a dot at the callerβs location, then a line extending along the path where they saw it land. The more certain they were, the narrower the line. With just three data points, they should have been able to triangulate the exact location of the shuttle. If the data was perfect.
Instead, they had a spider web surrounding an area in northern Alaska that encompassed almost the entire Brooks range. Still, the web was tightening. The smaller the web got, the better their guesses on who to contact that might have seen something. Time for another call.
The employee at the small airport just south of the Brooks range sounded gruff at first, but Sammi was able to get him talking without too much trouble.
