A list of puns related to "Gibson (cocktail)"
I made a bunch of cocktail onions and while I quite like a Gibson, I'm wondering if anyone has tried using them in any other drinks. I haven't found anything on the Internet, or at least anything that sounds palatable, and a prolonged stare at my liquor cabinet did not yield any inspiration. Maybe something with rye?

The wife and I went to dinner last night at a high-end steak and prime rib place. Weβve been there before. It is easily $100+ per person, so the meal had that special occasion feel to it. (Donβt eat like this too often.)
We had a brow-furrowing exchange with our sweet, 20-something server straight out of the gate. We will call her V.
Thought this group might enjoy the recap.
V: βWhile you wait for the rest of your group, can I get you some wine or maybe a cocktail?β
The Wife: βSure! Last time we were here, there was a burnt martini on the menu. Itβs like a martini where they rinse the glass with a smoked scotch. Is that still available? Could they make that even if itβs not on the menu?β
V: βUmmmβ¦ Iβm not sure. We have a smoked Old Fashioned. Is that what youβre wanting?β
The Wife: βNo. No thanks. Can I do a Hendricks martini?β
V: βA martini? Sure. What kind of liquor would you like?β
The Wife: βHendricks.β
V: βAnd for you, Sir?β
Me: βCan I do a Negroni made with Bombay Sapphire?β
V: βYou want aβ¦ Groni?β [Looking stressed and befuddled.]
Me: βA Negroni. Itβs a cocktail made with gin. Bombay Sapphire is my pick for gin if you have it.β
V: βOkay. Thank you. Be right back with your drinks.β
[Three minutes passes. A totally different server pops around the corner. Heβs an older gentlemen. Undoubtedly sent to clarify the drink order for our younger server.]
Server #2: βSir, you ordered a Negroni and a Bombay Sapphire. You know thatβs two different cocktails right?β
Me: βNot exactly. A Negroni is a pretty common cocktail made with gin. I was just ordering a Negroni and specifying that Iβll take Bombay Sapphire if they have it behind the bar. Just want the one drink for me. And the Hendricks martini for her.β
Server #2: βUmmmmβ¦.. okay. Iβll check with the bar.β
[A few more minutes passes. V returns empty-handed.]
V: βSir, how do you want your Bombay Sapphire? Straight up or on the rocks?β
Me: βWell, Iβll take it IN the cocktail. The Bombay Sapphire is the gin that goes in the Negroni. Just one drink.β
V: βOkay. Got it. So do you want it straight up or on the rocks?β
Me: βOn the rocks.β
V leaves. Wife and I are laughing. The server is very nice, very green, and giving it her best. We are trying to be good sports and not leave her feeling foolish but the whole thing has a βwhoβs on firstβ feel to it.
If she had returned one more time, I was prepared to switch to a Bud Light.
Eventuallyβ¦ a martini and Negroni arrived. ππ½

... keep reading on reddit β‘In my area there are some great speakeasies and destinations for superb cocktails, but I decided to try a few new places recently, and Iβve been left thoroughly disappointed.
Back-to-back I was pleased to see a Penicillin as an option.
Place 1: Served the drink over normal sized ice cubes, lacked the bite of fresh ginger, couldnβt taste any scotch.
Place 2: I was encouraged to see both a blended and single scotch listed in the recipe. When the drink arrived I took a big whiff and visual inspection. There was no float, did they really just mix the single into the blended? Served over mini ice cubes.
Both tasted more like margaritas than anything else.
Over $30 + tip for two drinks that a dive bar could have made just as competently (perhaps better), and at half the price.
I guess this is the risk I take giving new paces a chance.
I just read a story here that reminded me of one of my own. Itβs nothing big but I hope you guys enjoy.
Some years ago Hubby and I moved to another country where culturally, service is NOT a priority (very different from where I come from). Weβd barely arrived and decided to celebrate by going out for a nice meal to a restaurant recommended by a friend. Weβd been forewarned that the service standard was crap in general, so we came with a low bar.
The meal was nice, the service ok (low expectations prevent disappointment) and the conversation really good. We were excited about our new adventure and happy to finally be there. So we decided to follow the meal up with a cocktail since the restaurant had a fully stocked bar (in full view). We call the server over to order and the conversation went something like this:
Husband - Hi! Weβd like to order some drinks please
Server - Ok sure, what would you like?
Husband - For me a glass of red wine please
Server - Ok. And for you miss?
Me - Iβd like a gin and tonic please
Server - No. We donβt have cocktails
Me - What do you mean? You have a fully stocked bar..? (Seriously this was a BIG, very complete bar)
Server - We donβt have cocktails
Me - (flabbergasted) Ummm, but you have everything you need to make them, right?
Server - I wouldnβt know. We donβt have cocktails
At this point I sit back in my chair while my brain tries to process the situation...then promptly sit back up, an MC lightbulb going on in my brain.
Me - Ok, do you have gin?
Server - Yes
Me - Do you have tonic water?
Server - Yes
Me - Perfect, then please bring me a glass of straight gin, a glass filled with ice and a can of tonic water
Server - Ok
I seriously donβt know what they expected to happen but they bring everything over and then I proceed to mix my own drink at the table while making eye contact with a big grin on my face. And since the glasses were highballs I actually got a double! It was hilarious to see the server huffing away.
Edit: to the people asking this repeated question in the comments, please bear in mind that this whole story and exchange happened in Spanish, where there is no real usage for βdrinkβ for simple mixed alcoholic drinks, we pretty much use βcΓ³ctelβ for all of them. If you said βbebidaβ that could also mean lemonade or anything else that is a beverage whether alcoholic or not.
