A list of puns related to "Genius (2018 Hindi film)"
83 (Hindi) continues to drop on its second Tuesday with collections in the 1.50 crore nett range. The collections till date for the film are around 90 crore nett. The film dropped another 20% apprx on Tuesday from Monday.
The second week business of the film is now looking 24.50-25 crore nett. The film will suffer the sort of losses not seen by any film in the history of Hindi cinema but these sort of things happen when films go wrong. They have gone wrong earlier and will go wrong in the future.
The bigger issue is the 95% of the Hindi film industry thinking this is a good or great film. It shows the huge difference between what the audience likes and what the industry likes and this difference has to lessen for more films to succeed at the box office. There were MULTIPLEXES in Gujarat and Maharashtra where Pushpa (Hindi) was doing five times the business of 83 yesterday and some even with less shows. This is multiplexes and not single screens and its second Tuesday against third Tuesday.

Will Brahmastra get as much love as a Baahubali?
For me it's Shoojit Sircar and his partner's production company. Although filmography isn't big most of there have been well-recieved by critics and some were commercially successful as well
Now that Shamshera is ready and will release sometime later this year, I thought I should post about my favourite bandit film in Hindi and one of my favourite Hindi films, period.
Originally my title was going to be "The greatest bandit film made in Hindi cinema" but then I thought of Bandit Queen, which is a strong contender. So I changed it to mainstream Hindi cinema. Also I should make clear what I think is a "bandit film". This film should have bandits as its main and viewpoint characters. Thus, films like Sholay and Mera Gaon Mera Desh do not count, where the narrative is shown solely from the POV of the heroes.
It was Sunil Dutt's second film as producer and a huge hit. It was India's official entry for Cannes film festival. Director Moni Bhattacharjee had earlier assisted Bimal Roy in several films. This ended up being his only major succces as an independent director.
The film grabbed me right from amazing symbolism and message of the first two sequences. The film opens with an idyllic village life scenario. The song in the background is "Ab koi gulshan na ujde, ab watan azaad hai" beautifull penned by Sahir Ludhianvi. the song expresses happiness and hope on the achievement of the country's freedom.
However, as the song ends, the situation immediately changes as a group of bandits rides into the village. The people who were happily and peacefully going on with their daily routine are terrified. The bandit leader Jarnail Singh (Sunil Dutt) enters the house of the village chief and demands that he buy arms for him. When the chief refuses, Jarnail Singh cold-bloodedly murders him in public and rides away.
The first point this opening makes is the contrast between the lyrics of the opening song and the reality. The song says that now that the country has won its freedom, its trials and tribulations are over. But the reality intervenes and shows that while the foreign bandits may have left, the homegrown bandits are still very much active.
The second point it makes is that Jarnail Singh is clearly the villain even if he is played by the film's main actor and an established star. The film does not try to sugarcoat his deeds like many bandit films do by showing how the hero was forced into banditry due to circumstances such as Ganga Jumna and Dacait. His past is not spoken about at all, only his present is shown.
After such a magnificent, multi-layered opening, the film grips and never lets go throughout its r

I think most movie buffs have had the rapturous experience of discovering gold by accident- I threw on 'Once Upon A Time in the West' a few months ago when it was recommended on streaming while binging westerns. Two hours later I was absolutely dumbstruck by what I'd just witnessed, nothing less than the best movie I've ever seen.
For those who have also had the experience of discovering a film I'm curious what it was that got your attention and made you say 'this is something more than I expected, something worth paying attention to'. For me, in Once Upon A Time in the West it was the extended scene 10 minutes in where the gunslinger plays with a fly- the balance between whimsy and menace was totally fresh to me, and I was won over from that moment on.
