A list of puns related to "Franklin stove"
I would like to install a " Franklin/ Pennsylvania fireplace " stove into my parlor's fireplace. The only ones I have come across are originals or old reproductions that are smokey and very inefficient. As this will be my only source of heat I need to make this count (I'm in climate zone 6a). Is there any one out there that knows of a high, or at least a medium efficiency wood stove like this? Are there ways to modify on older one to be much more efficient ? I own a farm, out buildings and log farm house built some time between 1790-1822. I'm trying restore it to its original state (as much as reasonably possible). Thanks for your help!
Long story short: Bought a house with a wood stove in the basement. Mother-in-law is *insisting* to our realtor that we get instructions on how to use it from the previous owner. I feel bad and want her to stop pestering the realtor about it because the previous owner hasn't responded.
We're having it inspected / cleaned (per our homeowner's insurance requirements) on Thursday, and my plan was to just get instructions / advice on it then. I was hoping anyone here might chime in about it. I understand that a particular stove / chimney is always going to have a bit of a 'personality' to it and will take some learning to figure out exactly what it likes, but I don't feel that's the previous owner's responsibility, and if there is anything weird going on, it's probably a bad sign that we need something cleaned or replaced.
If anyone has any advice (on the stove, or the situation in general) please chime in!

We have a nice fisher stove in our basement now and are hoping to add a stove in our living room. We have a spot too put one now with a good hearth almost 4 feet by 4 feet and an mantel that's almost as big. We are hoping to get one that allows us to watch the fire and our budget is a bit tight. I find these two styles pop up alot in our area for sale for good prices and they seem to be in good conditions. One is just a basic Franklin stove and the other is a Scandia stove. Im just wondering if anyone has much experince with these.

So, we bought our house about a year ago. It's a mid-century modern split level, and on the lower level there's a big behemoth of a Franklin stove with a chimney pipe. It kind of takes up a lot of space and we didn't use it at all this last winter (even when we lost power due to a windstorm for two days in February!). The spot it's in is actually perfect for a fish tank project I've been thinking about, and so I'm considering taking the stove out.
Will this affect the value of the house at all? Could I potentially sell this thing? Do people buy Franklin stoves still?
hi,
my friends just bought a house, and they have a franklin stove in the living room. we both grew up with wood heated homes, but neither of us had a franklin stove. when we started a fire, we were getting a lot of smoke releasing into the room. part of the issue was probably due to not a having a huge difference in indoor to outdoor temperature.
.
I'm looking for tips and improvements that could reduce the amount of smoke into the room. I've seen blowers in the chimney pipe, or atop the chimney, to help pull the smoke up. do you think this is a good idea? maybe just starting the fire with a shit-ton of kindling to get the pipe warm enough to help pull smoke up?
.
my suggestion was to save up and replace it with a modern "reburning" stove. are there any good/cheap reburning stoves you guys would recommend? it's not the primary heat source for the house, so he is only looking for occasional use for that nice radiant heat feel and the aesthetics of a fireplace. are catalytic stoves cheaper?
So turns out my Franklin stove had poor ventilation and it finally broke so to stop smoke from getting everywhere in my house I had to make hank hill proud and buy propane. However the propane in my town is ridiculously expensive. So I decided to drive 2 hours to the nearest city and buy me some much cheaper gas. Last bit of context I have a huge scar on my left side of face and no left ear. (It still works just makes headphones a challenge) it's very noticeable but everyone in my town knows me so I'm use to people being polite about it.
Ok on the conversation Karen starts then we alternate I'm usually pretty trash at this i hope that helps
Excuse me.
I step closer to the shelf thinking she just wants to go past
Excuse me!
Sorry am I in your way
No, I just want to know what you think you're doing here
Buying propane tho I saw a good hamburg sale so plans change.
That's not what I mean and you know it.
No I don't think I do
What. Are. YOU. Doing. Here. People like you shouldn't be allowed to leave the house
Excuse me? Have I done something wrong?
You scared my kid (the kid did look uncomfortable)
Sorry ma'am I assume it's my scar?
That's right what makes you think that you can run around with that scaring innocent children.
(Me doing a impressive job controlling my anger) I can't help it ma'am someone had very strong opinions on how my face should look and as you can see they won the argument. Now if you're done I have more important things to do than listen to a whore whine at me for made up reason. (I do regret saying this)
How dare you. I'm calling the police.
For what hurting your feelings.
For verbal assault and public indiesencey (can't spell English for shit). Hello police there's a violent and angry man at the local General store. He's yelling and scaring small children.
End
Did my best to remember what she said. The police came talk to both looked at the cameras. Karen got a warning about wasting police time. I got the guilt of failing my challenge of not getting mad. (I have anger issues if that wasn't coming across)
So that's my story sorry for poor grammar or spelling but I have 0 respect for this language. Have a nice day.
New to the Whistle Pig but finding that all the good postings on this site are right on and expressed in a spirit of community that will allow this puzzle to be solved.I have thoughts to share about Winter Land, precipitated from the things that have been posted here. In the story, the couple begin their journey in New York and are heading to Annie's debut in California. They only get four hours into their journey before Annie ditches the narrator. My take on this story is that the journey represents the Lincoln Highway, America's first transcontinental ( 48 States) highway. The highway begins in Times Square, NY. Funny thing- Times Square proper encompasses 42nd to 47th Streets- and the pages that comprise the Winter Land chapter? Uh huh- pages 42-47. The narrator is trying to get Annie to her debut in San Franscisco ( San Francisco happens to be the Terminus of the Lincoln Highway). "Growing even the shortest of roots" ( hear the playful homophone? roots-routes) could postpone her debut. From what I've read about the Lincoln Highway, there was alot a dissention from states that wanted to dogleg in on the route. Anyway, I propose that Annie may be either an allusion to Janis Joplin (Janis famously is connected to the Chelsea Hotel in NYC and to a house and coffee shop in the Haight Ashbury area of San Fransisco) or to Effie Price Gedding. (I believe I read somewhere that Effie Gedding may have been the first woman in America to write a travelogue about the Lincoln Highway.) Anyway, if it is Janis Joplin, she may be travelling with Kris (The Highwayman) Kristopherson and encountered Johhny Cash and the Grateful Dead, all of whom may be among the musical references in an upcoming chapter- Forty Eight States. Anyway, the couple stop after four hours of travel. I suspected that they made it to Philadelphia. Confirmation? I rolled the dice and googled Stephen + Philadelphia and came up with St. Stephen's church. The church is famous for Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass (Lux Nova) and there is a plaque there commemorating the site as the location where Benjamin Franklin famously conducted his experiment with the kite. You might also connect the potbelly stove in the store to the Franklin Stove, invented by the man who also invented bifocals, lol. And if I'm not mistaken, there is a quote attributed (incorrectly attributed but commonly believed) to Franklin about God and beer. Which brings us to the last sentence in the chapter.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Well, I couldn't pass up a slant Griswold #3 Scotch bowl for $25 and it sure sent me down a rabbithole.
Like probably many of us, when I was getting into vintage iron and heard about Scotch bowls I Googled them to see what they were for and learned that they were for Scotch broth and oatmeal and stuff that had to be stirred a lot but wasn't covered, thus the shape. Seemed to check out.
Once I had one in hand I was excited to get cooking. Stripped with EZ-off, looked great. Did three oven seasonings with Crisco, which is more than I normally do before I start cooking but I figured that I was going to be boiling water in there with all my lovely broths and oatmeals so I'd push the boat out a little. Photo 1 is before, photos 2 and 3 are after. Those milled surfaces are gorgeous!
I was a little puzzled how to start out with a cast iron pot that was apparently explicitly for boiling-water based dishes though. After a gruesome misadventure boiling water in it after three oven seasonings with Crisco I realized I needed stronger seasoning for this (not unexpected...I couldn't see how this wouldn't be a problem but I'd rather deal with a problem in front of me than try to get out in front of a theoretical one, so I boiled some water in it). In the end I did some stove seasonings with Crisco and stir fried some fatty lamb trimmings from prepping my scotch broth, thinking that the early 20th century solution to this problem could just not have been more oven seasoning, since the cost of fuel would have potentially made that a prohibitively expensive solution . Worked great and I made a lovely scotch broth
These are definitely not just un-covered dutch ovens. See pic four for how it sits on The Big Burner of a modern gas stove. My usual rule of 'always on low all the time' had to be abandoned because it generally needed to be higher (just below med?) to get a good boil out of the Scotch bowl but this was actually a real advantage- much more control over simmering and other states below a rolling boil. Even before I know the fo

Damn, I feel so old. I remember when the βnet was a place of fun, flamewars, and outrageous rumors. I still want to believe in the one about the fantastical land in Utah, where the ammo grows on trees, and the Ammo Orchards are protected by a fierce ogre and his beautiful wife. But nowβ¦
It started, near as I can figure, about a month ago. Rumors of a new plague, 100% infection rate. Supposedly itβs a manufactured plague, by whom, no one knows. Rumors point to the US, Iraq, Russia, the Taliban, ISIS β my favorite was that it was a cold war weapon made by the U.K. in the 80βs.
The plague, according to the βnet, apparently turned people into some sort of mindless zombies, vacant smiles on their faces, the glassy-eye stare, the mumbling, the constant mumbling. The early rumors pointed to news anchors, talking heads, politicians as some of the first infected, but, really with rumored plague symptoms like that, who could really tell. None of the rumors agreed on how it was transmitted, none agreed on who was infected, but all agreed that if you can make it through the 25th, youβll be safe.
Rumors, thatβs all it was, like the OK sign being a racist symbol. But then I started to see it, a few people at a time. Wandering aimlessly through the stores, that dead, vacuous smile on their faces. I started taking precautions, if I had to go out in public: the useless COVID mask now hid my perma-frown, earbuds turned to 11 prevented me from hearing the murmurings. The last I was outβ¦
The last time I was out, three-quarters of the people were infected, the store clerks, stockers, gas station attendants. Every so often, with greater and greater frequency, theyβd all stop whatever they were doing, turn north, and speak. Each time, it lasted for 4 minutes, 27 seconds. Those who werenβt protected, turned by the 30 second mark.
Power went out this afternoon, as expected. With the weather reports it was just a manner of time. I should be okay. Iβve got enough supplies to last through Valentineβs Day. My tried-and-true Franklin stove will keep me warm, and Iβve got candlelight to read by. I feel safe. I
My God, theyβre coming β Carolers. I can barely hear the sound, but itβs getting louder and louder. They must have some portable sound system that I can hear it at this distance. But Iβm defenseless, my earbuds need to c

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
