They’ve known all along the issues that exist. 🦍 DD Major Confirmation.

This is like an adrenaline shot of confirmation bias that every bit of fact finding 🦍’s have conducted these last 6 months are VALID & that MSM is gaslighting us into believing we are just Reddit conspiracy theorists who know nothing.

Edit1: We should get Jeff Connaughton or Ted Kaufman on for an AMA.

This post details some of the things that were happening behind the scenes during Clinton’s administration & Obama’s administration. These details are from former chief of staff to Ted Kaufman, Jeff Connaughton(JC) in his book The payoff: Why Wall Street Always Wins. (Note JC is a Democrat, so that is why he was only part of White House during democratic presidency’s. Also this book was written in 2012, ~10 years ago)

(Note2 I read on an iPhone so page numbers are different on here than a traditional book when citing)

JC also served as a special assistant to the counsel of the president during Clinton’s 1st term. In between chief of staff & special assistant he served time as a lobbyist.

These “findings” will be limited to JC’S experiences. I decided to share because of the timeline of when they occur & I thought they were interesting pieces to our puzzle.

This post is lengthy, but should be quite easy to read. Honestly most of the work goes to the author because of how concise & easy to understand the writing is.

#Wall Streets Influence

Bill In Review: Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995

Excerpt about this bill:

“A corporate coalition - Wall Street banks and brokers, accountants, insurers, Silicon Valley—wanted the bill, which would make it more difficult to prove securities fraud, passed intact. The bill’s opponents felt it would shield securities fraud by these companies. Particularly troublesome to them were provisions regarding the statements companies make about future performance.” (P171-172)

**Basically it is now harder to prove securities fraud as well as provides safety to companies for including forward looking statements & prospective information. (Hello Enron) **

JC account with this bill involved counseling Bill Clinton himself. Pushing the president that this bill is not good for the public, to which it seems the president agrees.

Here is the part that stands out to me

“If the president has to think very hard before taking on this kind of fight, I thought to myself,

AITA for not letting my MIL come over unsupervised?

Throwaway for anonymity. Mobile for formatting. Not quite yet MIL, but soon enough.

In August my fiancé (“Emily”, 35F) and I (33M) will be tying the knot. We were going to last year but with the pandemic and then a pregnancy everything had to be reoriented and it’s been a big mess, frankly I’d settle for running down to the courthouse at this point. We’ve been together for eleven years, but had wanted to get settled before getting married.

I love my fiancé with my whole soul and her family is lovely— but they’re a lot more... involved than I’m used to family being. Emily’s mom, “Jen”, is the worst offender by far though.

The crux of the issue is Emily and I will be going on our honeymoon and I don’t want Jen to house-sit as I don’t trust her. Emily and I are already decided, but she’s getting pushback from her family and having doubts.

My reasons: Jen used to have a spare key to our house and she used to “tidy up” (she’s tossed out sentimental items, and apologized after but “didn’t know”, and checked our voicemail and would leave notes) and check on our dog while we were at work. I frequently told her to stop, but she seemed to take it as being hesitant to accept help; it took Emily putting her foot down for Jen to agree to stop. She didn’t, however, and did it two more times. Once while I was home alone showering and came to find her in our living room. The other time I came home from work and she bolted out of our bedroom. Our underwear drawer (!!!) was open, as was our bedside table. After that, Emily and I took away her key, changed the locks, and that seemed to be the end of it.

The boundary pushing doesn’t stop there though. When Emily and I were trying for a baby, we had a lot of difficulty, and Emily confided that in her sister. Who then told Jen, and soon Jen was posting prayer requests to help us have a baby! Emily was mortified but Jen didn’t seem to understand why what she did was wrong. To make it infinitely worse, when we did finally conceive, despite being told not to, she posted to Facebook, mass texts, you name it. She was just trying to help get the word out, but we didn’t want her posting our business.

She’s also tried to help with the wedding twice: buying us a cake- flavors and design of her choosing, though she did try to get something to Emily’s tastes- and telling Emily she doesn’t need to go dress shopping because Emily can just use hers. She backed down when told no, but still makes jokes about wasting that money.

Also, this article is from April 30th, so he mentions GME but keep in mind more news has happened since then

Nearly fifteen years ago, on December 10, 2006, the CEO of Senderra, a subprime mortgage lender owned by Goldman, Sachs, sent a grim report to its parent company. “Credit quality has risen to become the major crisis in the non-prime industry,” Senderra CEO Brad Bradley wrote, adding that “we are seeing unprecedented defaults and fraud in the market.” Within four days, senior executives at Goldman decided to “get closer to home” by unloading risky mortgage instruments. They didn’t alert regulators, of course, but did save their own hides, with Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein soon after ordering subordinates to sell off the ugly “cats and dogs” in their mortgage portfolio.

Around the same time that Goldman was having its come-to-Jesus moment, rival Lehman Brothers was going the other way. In one meeting, the bank’s head of fixed income, Mike Gelband, pounded a table, telling the firm’s infamous Vaderqsque CEO Richard “Dick” Fuld and hatchetman-president Joe Gregory there was a $15-18 trillion time bomb of lethal leverage hanging over the markets. Once it blew, it would be the “grandaddy of credit crunches,” and Lehman would be toast.

Fuld and Gregory scoffed. They didn’t understand mortgage deals well and thought Gelband lacked nerve. “Be creative,” they told him, adding, “What are you afraid of?”

“We called it ‘Goldman Penis Envy,’” says Lawrence McDonald, former Lehman trader and author of A Colossal Failure of Common Sense. In telling the Gelband story, he explains that Fuld and Gregory were so desperate to beat out Goldman and become the richest men on Wall Street, they chased every bad deal at the peak of the speculative bubble. “These tertiary financial institutions, in order to win business away from the big players, they have to continually juice their offerings, offer more leverage, more goodies,” says McDonald. “Dick and Joe, they wanted to do these banking deals, to steal Goldman’s business by offering more.” In the end, Goldman got out just in time, and Lehman – which had scored record profits in every year from 2005 through 2007, pulling in $19.3 billion in revenue in 2007 alone – became a bug on the windshield of history.

In the triggering episode, Goldman w

Jar’Bek unnecessarily straightened his suit, trying to soothe the restlessness of his nerves. The luxuriant feel of the fabric beneath his fingers reminded him of his significant change of fortune. Less than a celes ago he had been the last in a long line of underpaid lawyers representing one Gular Finzash, a shady trade alliance leader and all around scumbag. A chance encounter had brought him into contact with Aaron J. Cooper, the last human, and swiftly following that was Gular's chance encounter with an Arkellian street at terminal velocity.

The Ashi looked down at his shoes, dolgathic yellow and polished to a glittering shine. His suit was pale blue, complimenting the shoes nicely as well as bringing out the blue tones in his grey skin. Everything he wore was specially tailored for him by master craftsmen using the finest materials, and not a single item had even seen a fabricator. His wealth was astonishing. Thanks to his employer, he could retire now and in a thousand celes his descendants would still never need to work.

The thought of retirement was warm and welcoming, and with it came the unexpected image of Captain Elora'Tan Loring. He felt a tightness in his chest, realizing that he didn't want to spend his retirement alone. Right there, at the centre of the Yovaran Convocation, he made a decision that, should he survive, he would ask Elora to make the life-bond with him.

“Did you hear me?” a loud, angry voice boomed out. “You dare stand in these hallowed chambers and demand this… this... “

“We’re calling it a regime change.” Jar’Bek’s voice remained steady despite the giant Yovarans crowding around the large dirt-floored circle he now occupied. It was a fighter's ring: the way their political disputes were resolved. “Mr. Cooper defeated your Supreme Warlord, and Councillor of the Galactic Federation, Larnos Derani. Therefore, he has earned the right to lead your people. ‘Only the mighty shall lead’, isn’t that the Yovaran way?”

A voice from behind him snarled, “He is not Yovaran, he can not lead.”

AITA for canceling a house cleaning for my house knowing it’s unorganized

I (24F) live alone with my son (4M). Due to COVID, I work from home and my son does not go to daycare now that he is out of school, so we are always here. My work requires a lot of direct attention so I don’t have time during work hours to be cleaning things around the house, and my son usually runs around pulling out all sorts of toys and other items to keep himself occupied. By the time I’m off, I’m mentally exhausted and usually wait until the weekend to do a full house cleanup. I have a friend (28M) who comes over sometimes on week days after work and often comments on the state of my house. He is very OCD and I am not, so I just brush off his comments. He does NOT help financially in any way and does NOT live here so quite frankly his opinion is irrelevant on the matter.

Earlier this week he let me know he hired a cleaning lady to come clean my house today (Friday) during my work hours. I was a little annoyed at first because it’s not his place to do that but later thought maybe he’s doing it to be nice and help me out, assuming he would be covering the cost since he made the decision to hire someone without my consent. But then yesterday he told me I needed to pay for half of the cost and total charge would be around $150.

I told him to cancel the appointment today because that’s too much for me deal with at this moment. He was extremely unhappy and told me nothing is more important than living in a clean environment and that it is my responsibility to keep my house clean and tidy for my son. By no means is my house filthy. Unorganized, yes.

I understand that there are a lot of people who pick up immediately after they’ve used something but I am not one of those people. I would much rather do a 1-2 hour cleanup on Saturday mornings while my son is sleeping. For context, his toys are littered on the floor in the living room, clean laundry is on the couch waiting to be folded, dirty clothes are on the bathroom floor, dishes in the sink that need to be moved into the dishwasher, and random items on my dining room table that need to be put up.

He’s telling me I’m an asshole for canceling and that he’s not paying the cancellation fee and that I’ve just wasted the cleaners time. Am I the asshole?

New 4Gamer Interview with Ishiwatari and Katano

https://www.4gamer.net/games/527/G052700/20210602107/

Just going to translate the highlights.

We want to provide "Guilty Gear Style" without adhering to the past of the series.

  • The interview was conducted on May 18, two days after Open Beta 2 (OB2).

  • Ishiwatari's current feeling, rather than the usual feeling that development is almost complete, is more like, "this is just the beginning."

  • Katano agrees, saying they are still checking and adjusting things (having just finished OB2), and will continue supporting the game post-launch. However their main focus is making sure they have a satisfying and complete final product.

  • The main reason for the delay from April 9 to June 11 was improving online play and adjusting the lobby, which took a lot of time.

  • They also wanted more time to work on improving game balance based on feedback from OB1.

  • Ishiwatari described the response to OB2 in one word, "mixed." Feedback was more vocal than OB1.

  • Katano said there was a major server error still happening during OB2 which was giving players trouble, but thanks to the test they determined the cause and they think they've fixed it.

  • Katano also said some of the gameplay changes in OB2 weren't well received, so they were glad to get feedback to know what kind of adjustments need to be reconsidered before for launch.

  • Katano says that while it wasn't the case for everything in OB2, some of the changes they made were taken to extremes that they never intended for the final version, just for the sake of testing.

  • Katano says that they know OB2 was not in a releasable state, and they will continue making changes based on feedback from both tests up until the last minute in order to create the final product.

  • Ishiwatari said the most consistent feedback from OB1 was about the lobbies. Katano says players found them hard to use, and while playing the beta and experiencing it from the user's end, the team came to the same conclusion and decided they needed to make fundamental changes before release.

  • Interviewer notes that they made a lot of changes to air movement in OB2 based on feedback from OB1, and Katano reiterates that the adjustments they tried were pretty extreme.

  • Katano says, bluntly, the movement changes felt too restrictive, and they agree. After receiving feedback they're trying to decide where they'll end up.

  • Ishiwatari said they knew there would be negative feedback about those changes, but they decided to tone [air m

Out of Cruel Space, Part 21

He watched and waited, a smile unseen on his face. For there was nothing to see. Dis’T’Ortion was one of the best. Of course being the best spy when you’re naturally invisible and have a full suit of clothing which shifts to match your flawless invisibility is rather easy.

The upside is that it gave him plenty of wonderful excuse to go to strange places and see strange people, his wives were even understanding about it. He had to serve his home sector after all, make sure that Galactic Politics were on the up and up right? He had legal permission to be in the building but the spying was either something they were ignorant of or so woefully stupid that no one realized the completely invisible man who could hide recording devices in his invisible pockets would DEFINETLY be working as either a spy or working to blackmail government officials.

People could just be so dumb when men were involved. Even other men.

Humans seemed to be no exception as their ambassador slowly agreed to and debated several points. Mostly about the legality of human men being the soldiers and labourers of humanity. The primary sticking point he’s using to debate this is that no matter how much they insist that human men not risk themselves they have little choice and less ability to enforce these rulings in Cruel Space where humanity’s only actual settlement is located in the form of their homeworld of Earth or Terra or Sol 3/Prime. The fact that the legal framework had expanded to the point that all four names needed to be used in official documents was a testament to how bloated and redundant things had grown.

“Madam Ambassadors, I do appreciate the concern you have for myself and my people, however to acquiesce to such demands would mean a catastrophic economic and cultural breakdown among my species. Furthermore even if these risks were not present I myself am merely the current representative of numerous divided countries and cultures across my homeworld. My primary concern is to bring about peaceful contact with the rest of the galaxy and report back with possible solutions to allow my people to better communicate with the galaxy at large.”

“Yes, and to prevent any of our more... exuberant citizens from taking ill advised courses of action we have to have some assurances for them. Otherwise there will be a great deal of difficulty born of concerned citizens obeying what is the proper and just course of law within their own systems.” Another ambassador, this lady a Tret goes

SAPI Leadership: An Example of Competence and Success

Marking the end of an extended weekend where the SAPI Blue Donut celebrated a Memorial Day victory by efficiently executing one of their most commonly used strategies this war (flash forming, doing basic arithmetic, confirming their 3-1 advantage, unforming, then reporting Op success on social platforms), the morale of the SAPI line member continues to rise unabated, and rightfully so.

With the Imperium still bewildered by SAPI’s vaunted “Made You Form!” offensive push on Memorial Day, combined with the past several weeks of operations by SAPI forces to take 3-D by implementing avant garde doctrines to turbo-feed a plethora of random hulls and Azbels, it truly seems as though SAPI is making tangible strides in their offensive push and are that much closer to taking 1DQ by last Christmas.

The continued onslaught by SAPI forces has been downright relentless, even just earlier today the Imperium forces were decidedly defeated with a paltry 68.1% efficiency, trading for a 31 b/isk advantage, and if that wasn’t embarrassing enough for the Goon forces, they were later baited into forming for and anchoring a Keepstar in the 3-D system with zero opposition, a true step back for our home defense.

SAPI leadership was of course right to point out the technical issues of the grid and the server issues throughout which only affected SAPI forces and ultimately prevented them from winning the war right then and there. With Goon forces in disarray by continuing to rely on a lag-free environment with zero tidi effects, along with our failscading pilot numbers and CCP sacrificing themselves to defend our frontline, building on our “single clean victory” this entire war seems more and more futile.

Remember, if we’ve learned anything the past several months, it’s that SAPI leadership is a community full of heralded theory-crafters, experienced tacticians and legendary fleet commanders. No doubt we still remember their recent specialized HAC doctrine that was developed to severely damage the Imperium’s effort to keep stealth bombs stocked at our market hub. Or the highly effective and advanced “hit-and-cut-loose” tactic, as valiant SAPI FCs courageously escorted their fleets into battle with no prop mod and then left them immediately, confusing the entire grid as to what was happening and what was going on. Or even just the random fleet probing that has occurred so often this month that frankly it’s only a matter of time before our pilots become exhausted logging into the

What do you like about LIS2 more than previous LIS games?

LIS1 has unique fun gameplay because of Time Rewind powers, there're more relatable characters dealing with relatable scenarios than LIS2.

I think LIS2 did better when it comes to "Your Choices Matters". Your actions can actually affect people around you, meanwhile LIS1 has Time powers that can undo a lot of things.

It feels very rewarding when you receive good consequences by making good choices, such as:

  • Treating Daniel well will strengthen the brotherhood, he becomes more obedient and less bratty. It feels rewarding when he listens to Sean more, eager to help him with his chores (e.g carrying water containers).
  • Daniel also becomes more responsible if you go more high moral approach, like he tidied his room in EP2, did the dishes in EP3. In turn, if Sean steals, Daniel will steal a hula girl figure from Brody. If Sean didn't tell him stealing is wrong, Daniel will steal a toy from Chris in EP2.
  • You teach Daniel to put himself and his brother more than everyone and it feels so satisfying when Daniel forced all law enforcers out of the way so that they both could cross the border.
  • In Parting Ways, Daniel grew up and became an upstanding person that he used his power to do good things (e.g Save a group of children from a terrible accident). Despite he didn't want to live in Mexico, he still allows Sean cross the border to have his freedom.

In LIS1, there's no bad consequences for treating Chloe badly since she still forgives Max quickly. Probably because Chloe has feelings on Max, thus she always loves her unconditionally.

In the opposite, there's almost none good consequences if I go 100% Pricefield, Chloe still lashes out and blames Max along with everyone for everything wrong in her life. Going 100% Pricefield only shows Chloe used a picture of Max as her phone profile picture and gives the goodbye kiss with Chloe if Sacrifice Chloe was selected. I only feel rewarded when I'm able to save Kate, but she still dies if you choose to sacrifice Arcadia Bay.

Bad choices can really screw you up, like your relationship with Cassidy can be destroyed if you choose to lie to her. In LIS1, you can choose to be mean/hostile towards Victoria, but her relationship with Max remains neutral or becomes positive in both endings. Finn can die and he isn't like Frank/Kate/Victoria who can be brought back alive in one of the endings (Victoria survives in both endings).

Sean can be also killed in the end if Brotherhood + Morality is low, Daniel was taught t

On The Origins Of Myth And Folklore - Humans

"...Verily, one of the most academically interesting instances of mythological synchronicity, doth be the persistent and worldwide proliferation of the race of 'humanity'. It barest particular note that accounts of these most miraculous, indeed, nigh-divine beings, doth vary little and less between such diverse lands as Amazonia and far-distant Monai..."

Jente leaned back in her chair and paused, scratching behind one of her broad, tapering ears with the feathers of her quill. "No... No, come on, Jen, you're better than this," she grumbled, setting her pen down and smacking her cheeks to rouse herself from her stupor. Taking the page from her writing desk, she re-read her rambling and promptly crumpled the paper into a tight ball, tossing it toward a waste basket, where it bounced off the already over-filled contents and fell by its side.

The Gobbie scholar closed her eyes in frustration and slumped, her head hitting the desk with a solid thunk, her black, braided hair flipping up and falling over her head. "Ramble and waffle without a trace of meat on the bones," she complained to herself, rolling her head to one side to look at the mound of discarded draft pages and sighing, puffing up her cheeks in a pout.

The issue was, of course, that in her particular field of study, nailing down the facts was often difficult, not that this had stopped her from finishing her analysis of no less than fifty-seven previous folk-tales and boogiemen, ranging from the malevolent Strangler and the Lean Boy, to more harmless fare such as Harvest Dancers or the Giant's Stairs. While she knew such a niche field of study was never likely to be a best-seller, she was proud of her work and felt confident, that when she finally finished her treatise, it would meet with unreserved approval from her fellow anthropologists.

"Urgh, more like if I ever finish it at this rate!" she grumbled, standing up and stretching, her back popping in protest at her correction of her poor posture. Maybe a walk would clear her head, or perhaps just reviewing one of the small mountain of tomes and notes she'd gathered about humanity. She cast an eye about her study and winced at the chaotic mess of notes, books and dirty cups and plates from late-night sessions. She'd refused to let her housekeeper tidy up ever since she started working on her segment about humans, just in case something was misplaced or she lost her line of thought and it was starting to show.

The Liverpool line-up from Jurgen Klopp’s first league game in charge, where are they now?

It’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp revolutionized a sorry looking Liverpool side who had spent the past decade floundering and turned the club into a global force one again.

Brendan Rodgers’ side had run out of steam following an impressive prior season challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title, and the important change of ethos was much-needed.

Safe to say the side didn’t have the same star power as it does now; there was no Van Dijk, no Salah, no Thiago, no Alisson, the list goes on.

Instead stood a side brimming with energy and desire, but lacking in the quality we’ve come to expect from Liverpool in recent years.

Here then, is the Liverpool line-up that Klopp fielded during his first league game in charge (a 0-0 draw away to Pochettino’s Tottenham), and where they are now.

Goalkeeper – Simon Mignolet – Club Brugge

The Belgian goalkeeper signed for Liverpool at a cost of £9 million following a player-of-the-year season for Sunderland and it would be fair to say he had an inconsistent spell at the club.

After a strong start he was dropped under both Rodgers and Klopp, for Brad Jones and Loris Karius respectively (yikes) but managed to remain on the books until 2019. He actually holds the club record for penalties saved, was part of the Champion’s League winning squad and made over 150 appearances for the side, so he at least leaves some kind of legacy.

He’s now playing for Club Brugge after signing for around £6 million. The side sit comfortably at the top of the table, and have the best player in the world, Bas Dost, on their books too.

Left back – Alberto Moreno – Villareal

Following his amazing solo goal against Spurs, Liverpool fans quickly believed they had uncovered the Spanish Gareth Bale, but this was to be the highlight of Moreno’s Liverpool career and his star faded fast.

Whilst always a potent attacking force, Moreno was found out defensively throughout his tenure and his frankly horrific performance in the 2016 Europa League final against Sevilla signaled the beginning of the end for Moreno. More bad games against Arsenal, and Sevilla again (amongst others), saw him temporarily lose his place to James Milner, and permanently to Andy Robertson.

At 28 it feels like he should still have a lot left in the tank, but injury has plagued his time at Villareal since joining in 2019. A combination of muscle problems and an awful cruciate ligament rupture mean he’s already missed a whopping 62 games for Unai Emery

My little journey to audio enthusiast

Following a friend's recommendation, I would like to share my humble beginning as an audiophile.

A few years ago, Earpods from iPhones were the standard for me. I didn't know what "sounding good" mean. At the loss of my earpods, I went to an audio shop and asked for recommendations. I was pleased with the Sony XB55AP bass and didn't think too much after that.

Then the Sony broke. "But this time I am gonna ask an audiophile friend of mine for recommendations and get sth better" I thought. He suggested going for a Final E2000 because I don't want to lose too much bass but I also wanted a bit of clarity. Little did I think of it as well. Then thanks to a long homework session forcing me to listen to music to stay awake, I suddenly found out the thing sounded warm and vocals are muted. I disliked that. I thought the problem could also be due to the file format, so I spent months looking for flacs, hi-res and convinced myself that these files were miles better. Now I know I was only fooling myself.

At around the same time, my tech savvy side got the better of me as the idea of 'reference monitor' and 'reference sound' kept floating around my head thanks to tech-reviewers (looking at you, Brownlee and Morrison). "What if there is a sound signature that recreates sound as natural as possible?", like how screens are standardized by color calibration. Seeing everyone praising the damn M50X to oblivion I also wished to own one myself.

Things took a turn when that same friend suggested looking as Crinacle's headphones ranking list. Looking at it for a while I believed he is the elite. "Him ranking the M40X higher than the M50X must also be true" I thought, because my trial with an M40X at my local store made me wanted it horribly bad.

High school graduation came and I was gifted, ironically, an M50X. I used it to the best of its capabilities and thought it was fine because stepping away from all the bassy consumer stuff was a breath of fresh air. Its harsh, dry treble convinced me into details. The bloated, limp bass fooled me into thinking proper bass response. The presence of the bass, mids, and treble made me think that I have finally reached 'balance' or 'reference'. However, something was off. I used it to watch a video review of a car and the guy who reviewed it sounded strange. He sounded part muffled part screaming, or as I like to call it: "Doofenshmirtzy". I tried with every other videos that I knew and everything also had that Doof tone to it. I again

If You're Feeling Stressed Out About College Admissions (or anything really), This Post is For You: My Thoughts about Mindfulness, Mental Health, and College Admissions for Mental Health Month

I’m gonna be super real with you -- applying to college is fricking stressful -- and often overwhelming. And it's totally ok and normal to be stressed out. Still, no doubt, there are going to be times when you’re going to absolutely need to be able to handle the stress of it all. So in honor of Mental Health Month, as we finish off May, I’m gonna try to get all the mental health tips that I like to share throughout the year all bundled up in one post -- this one.

Warning -- it’s long. And if you read the stuff I write here on A2C (and thank you if you do), you might have seen all my advice and stories I’m sharing here, but I always think good reminders are important -- especially about your mental health. Graduating seniors, y’all might wanna hold on to this post too. Some of these tips might come in handy during the college transition.)

So, yeah -- there are times when the college admissions experience absolutely sucks. But there’s also something really amazing about the admissions journey. And here’s why: Some stress is good for you. You aren’t going to live long, full, absolutely stress-free lives and the sooner you learn to handle it, the better. I’ve heard this called stress inoculation before.

I call it wind.

🌳 Baby Tree Metaphor

Now, I really hope there aren’t any botanists out there to call me out on the details of this story because anyone who knows me can tell you I’m no scientist, but I am a former English major and English teacher, so I love a good metaphor, and when I first heard this story, it struck me, and it stuck with me.

Back in the 90s, there was this big ole Biosphere in Arizona where they were trying to create a completely self-contained ecosystem and grow trees, so that, you know, if we get booted off Earth someday, we can take our plant life with us.

They made the conditions absolutely perfect for raising these baby trees. Perfect soil. Ideal temperature. Perfect amount of sunlight and water. And the trees grew and they grew fast and tall and seemed healthy and then —- they started to fall over. And do you know why? The scientists had forgotten to provide the wind in creating the perfect environment for raising their beautiful baby trees. And because there was nothing pushing on these baby trees, nothing trying to knock them over, the saplings never experienced any stress. And without the stress from the wind trying to knock them over, the trees weren’t creating “stress bark,” a bark that makes them stand strong, and t

My experience on r/Singapore: Two and a half bans, hilarious mod replies, and no regrets.

Hello, it's u/SamBellFromSarang. About one and a half people from r/Singapore will probably know me for my dumb comments on the subreddit. I just found this place so I thought to share about my hilarious experience with the mods there. Buckle up, it's a fun ride.

Chapter 1: My First Account

I had a main account that I was using to post to r/Singapore. Things were going well, I had a decent amount of karma (something like 50k comment + submission) so I like to think my presence was welcomed. By no means do I have any false pretense of being well-remembered or well-liked. Such is the life of Reddit. You post a funny comment, people breathe air out of their nose, they click the orange arrow, and they move on.

But I think if they had that one second of joy in this stress-filled country, I think that is good enough for me.

On top of random dumb jokes, I also like to encourage discourse by posting controversial comments. Now of course, you can see this is when things get sketchy. But I never went overboard, never called people names, or trolled people. In any case, this never got me in trouble. Not to my knowledge anyway.

So how did I get banned eventually, after 1.5 years of activity? No idea. They suddenly told me I was perma banned, no citations whatsoever. No links, nothing. I messaged them several times over the course of a month, and each time they muted me for 24hrs. I thought this was funny. Rather than confronting me like real men, they rather just abuse their mod powers.

Eventually, they got the admins to suspend my account for a week. Game over, they have the big dicks.

This is actually the second ban on that account, though the first time was less permanent. Same thing: no reason cited. I followed up by cordially asking why and even offered an apology. They sent something rude and unprofessional back before lifting my ban.

Oh well.

Chapter 1.5: The Blatant Ban

I said I had 2.5 bans. This chapter is dedicated to the half ban.

For a while, I borrowed my friend's account to browse r/sg, and one time I was on a news thread typing some opinions. I don't even remember what the topic was on, but that was a ban speedrun! No less than 2 days of having that account, I was instantly banned. Why? What could possibly have happened on that news thread? Was I so egregious, so offensive?

It was clear when I saw who I was chatting with in the thread. A mod. That's right, a mod replied to my comment, to which I replied to as well (continuing the

Streets of Rage, a cautionary tale.

Warning: Boomer alert

The first console game I ever played was Streets of Rage for the Sega Mega Drive. I was then bought a PS1 by my mum for my birthday. I received a copy of the original Grand Theft Auto upon release, and that is when I was truly first wired in. Looking back I must say it is a little strange that I started playing such a violent game at the age of nine.

FF7, MGS, Silent Hill all followed suit, and my favourite game of all time – Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2. I was heavily into skateboarding in my youth, and that game was electronic nirvana for me. I would replay the School level over and over again. Millencolin – No Cigar was the soundtrack that accompanied my captivation. Still a banger of a tune tbf.

The first PC game I ever played was Age of Empires. My mum had been rushed into hospital, and whilst staying at a friends house his dad let me play on his PC. I soon roped my mum into buying a PC of our own so that I could do “schoolwork”. Along came Civilization. Half Life. Thief. Rollercoaster Tycoon. The Sims. And probably the most addictive game of all for me personally, Football Manager. I would be unable to precisely estimate just how many hours I have spent on Football Manager, but considering I have bought nearly ever release for the past twenty-three years I would guess at roughly two years time spent in game.

I got my first dial up connection in 1998, at age ten. At first I would use it mainly to chat to random people in AOL chatrooms. After a year of plagiarising the Encyclopedia Britannica for homework and my introduction to photos of MILFs with big boobs, I stumbled by accident upon a relatively new genre, the online First Person Shooter. In the following couple of years I binged on a diet of FPS titles. Delta Force 2 > Quake 3 Arena > Soldier of Fortune > CS 1.6 > CoD 1 > CS:S.

The UK/EU scene for these games was great, and by 2003 there was a really vibrant community taking shape. I was very active on the Clanbase and ESL ladders and loved trying to rise the ranks. Despite my devotion to the FPS genre I have only ever played one FPS game with my childhood friends in person, Goldeneye 007 N64. I didn’t enjoy it, it didn’t have the same competitive vibe. Plus, those N64 controllers were proper dire.

This was a more innocent time, when young adults would form clans, sit on ventrilo and teamspeak with their icemat siberia headsets, and chat in various mIRC channels on #quakenet.org. Playing against rival

Hard Sci-fi, preferably a series

I love Sci-fi, but find myself preferring more grounded authors these days. Doesn't have to be overly futurist and preferably not too fantasy. Once I find an author I like I tend to read their entire series of work so the more prolific the better.

Authors I've enjoyed:

Alastair Reynolds - This is the perfect balance for me. Practical science, great world building, tidy trilogies.

Neal Stephenson - Good concepts, sometimes disappointing execution. Seveneves is easily in my top 5 books.

William Gibson - Not hard sci-fi, but solid ideas and pacing with visceral settings.

James S.A. Corey - Absolutely love The Expanse and am eagerly awaiting the final book.

Frank Herbert - Not much to say here except there's only so many times you can reread a classic.

Orson Scott Card - Everything Ender related I loved, but same problem as Herbert.

Daniel Suarez - Read his first two novels and they were enjoyable. Would consider reading more if recommended.

Liu Cixin - The Rememberence of Earth's Past series was a great read, but I couldn't get that same enjoyment from Amy of his other works.

Authors I didn't enjoy as much:

Gene Wolfe - Just finished Book of the New Sun and it wasn't my cup of tea.

Dan Simmons - Hyperion felt too fantasy and at times was a struggle to push through.

Ann Leckie - Trudged through the Ansillary series and immediately donated them.

Authors I'm considering next:

Andy Weir - Saw The Martian, heard his books are better.

Adrian Tchaikovsky - Heard good things, but not familiar with the concepts of his work.

Peter F. Hamilton - Constantly recommended to me on Amazon, but I've been burned by their recommended reading before.

Isaac Asimov - Specifically considering Foundation series.

If you made it through all that, thanks for listening.

DAD JOKES ARE NOT DIRTY.

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Thank you,

A Dad.

/r/QOTSA Official Band of the Week 61: RED FANG

There are some bands out there that are way too serious. Like, can you imagine just partying with Rage Against The Machine? I’m reasonably certain Zack de la Rocha is permanently angry and is contractually not allowed to crack a smile. And I find it hard to imagine Tool being a band that just have fun hanging out with each other. I think they just sit there trying to align the tuning of their instruments with the Fibonnaci sequence or something.

Oasis took themselves so seriously that they thought they were better than The Beatles. And Radiohead have such a depressed vibe that having a good time at one of their concerts almost feels wrong.

But this week’s band doesn't have that problem.

They are unabashed hipsters from the Pacific Northwest who drink Pabst Blue Ribbon. They love to rock out and do stupid shit. Their latest video is about spending all their money to buy a katana , and then they hang out for the entire rest of the song just taking turns cutting things.

It is glorious.

This week we check out a band that knows how to have a good time. If you don’t know them, you are in for a treat. Let’s learn about RED FANG.

About them

How did a bunch of beer chugging hockey dads come to form a band?

I mean, look at these guys. I’m pretty sure that if I saw them in line at Home Depot I wouldn’t even blink.

Vocalist and guitarist Maurice Bryan Giles grew up in Tucson, Arizona. He started playing piano at around seven or eight. He even took piano lessons. But he did not join Mini Mansions, the piano brigade that never was. He then took up the trumpet -- because perhaps the piano was not annoying enough on its own. However annoying the trumpet might be, the music he was playing in school was just not captivating enough.

on the recent sub "drama"

hello everyone, i hope you're all keeping well!

TW for mention of SRA and antisemitism, no details

update: no topics will be banned, the subreddit will remain a place for open discussion of everything DD-related. please remember to stay kind in your discussions though :-)

so i'm sure a lot of you saw the situation that went down recently, sparked by the discussion on whether or not SRA (satanic ritual abuse) is antisemitic or not. i apologise for not sorting this out sooner but i haven't been online that much lately. i have now banned a user who was saying frankly disgusting things, and am tidying up as i find more. please DM me if you see anything else that needs removing as there's a good chance i might have missed some comments (and i'm usually on mobile so can easily miss modmails).

going forward, i'm considering implementing a guideline about what topics can be discussed, and the context in which we can do so. i'm not sure about it though, because generally the subreddit has been a place where we can all discuss complex and serious topics with maturity and basic kindness, and it doesn't feel good to police what we can and can't mention. on the other hand, SRA isn't directly related to DD anymore, and at the end of the day, this is a subreddit to discuss DD, not DID and its (many) issues and branch-off topics. on top of that, this is a complicated, emotional and serious debate that gets very heated on all sides, and causes a lot of conflict between users.

if anyone has any input, i'd be interested to hear it, because i don't want to silence anyone or start dictating what is and isn't allowed, it's just that the sub is here to discuss someone else's drama, not start our own internal drama lol. anyways, have a nice day/night everyone :-)

tldr: antisemitism bad, i'm tidying up, should i allow this kind of discussion in future or not?

My roommate keeps throwing away my food

I (21M) live with 2 roommates (also 21M, we'll call them Frank and Petey) We all get along and normally only have minor disagreements which are solved pretty quickly. Contrary to popular belief, we are all very clean and like to keep the place neat and tidy.

Recently, I have taken up cooking. I am always very proud of what I make (I always offer to share) and normally have leftovers that I keep in the fridge and eat throughout the week. I made fish for the first time and as per usual, I had some leftovers which I snacked on over the course of the next few days.

I was hungry at work thinking about the last portion of fish that I had waiting for me at home all day. Unfortunately, by the time I got home, one of my roommates (we'll call him Petey) threw away the last of my fish! I was really disappointed after having waited for that food all day.

Petey has done this more than once and always says that it's because he can't stand the smells that my food leaves even saying that it contaminates the fridge. I think that this is way out of line because of all the stinky cheese that Petey leaves in the fridge for months at a time. I know that some cheese grows mold but his is ridiculous.

I tried asking him to ask before throwing my stuff out and things got pretty heated. I decided to involve Frank but he agreed with Petey even though he barely has a sense of smell due to his springtime allergies. I asked Petey to at least pay me back for the cost of ingredients if he wasn't going to apologize but he and Frank called me a drama queen and refused.

We got into a shouting match that devolved into us all saying some pretty rude and disrespectful things to each other. I haven't spoken to either of them in the past couple days and they seem to be avoiding me around the house. I'm worried that this will affect our Sunday DnD night.

tl;dr My roommates threw out my food and it turned into a huge argument.

What should I do? I don't think I'm in the wrong but I need to live with these people.

Edit- I use environmentally friendly cardboard takeaway containers to save my food

Hello New Eden, your D+ pilot, C+ Imperium & Redditswarm poster here earning my daily 10m to provide an Imperium Perspective to Marcus Murphy's TL:DR of the 5/15/21 Meta Show.

First, I saw that my good friend and comrade slash opponent in this reddit war of words, the Immalleable Marcus Murphy opted out of a proper TL;DR today. I'm sad. Cheer up pal, you still have time to join the Imperium. Karma Fleet and STK-S are recruiting! There is a light at the end of this tunnel!

That said, onto the business at hand! Your Marcus Murphy Metashow Minute!

Some Program Notes beforehand:

Smug Meter was in the red about 80% of the hour

Evil Villain Laughter from Vince McMittani: 2

Use of Bad Words: 47 counted, I may have missed a few.

  • Very interesting music to start off the show. No wonder Marcus's TL:DR POV came through as demoralized and haven given up.
  • Johnny F'in Candles first in chat. Well done, Johnny.
  • Fountain Frank made an appearance, sang a hilarious song but was Hellen Kellered for the first 15 seconds of it.
  • The Mittani, Prince of Period Basis, Duke of Delve, Master of Mixing had to tell Frank 3 times he was muted before we got to hear what was aptly called “Karaoke with Fountain Frank" by 4 year INN subscriber Xandryll.
  • Hilarious Vince McMittani Cosplay occurs. I spit my Big Wave out and had to pause to clean my singular monitor (not one of the 13 lost in 3-D).
  • PAPI seems to have brought the biggest offensive so far in the war over the iHub in 3-D.
  • Local was up to 2k people with 10% Time Dilation.
  • Brisc reviewed the battle report but had to scroll more than Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios. Total of 1125 PAPI ships deleted by a Hail Mary Bombing Run of a combined INIT. Pando, and GSF Alice Homoloes.
  • PAPI had secret objectives that were somehow accomplished via this loss.
  • PAPI is blaming the servers and will never give The Imperium credit for anything, despite TIDI being 10% and over 2000 people in local leading to the best decisions ever to be repeated that day by PAPI FC’s.
  • It was clear that PAPI had requested the node be reinforced, as they would not have attempted this fight otherwise. They cannot claim bugs, or servers for this, and should reflect and learn from their own repeated M2stakes.
  • Brisc gave a review of INIT's deployment. PAPI keeps pulling resources from Delve to fight INIT, clearly demoralizing the average line member who must turn their valuable hours of game play into Bus Simulator.

Welcome to Premier League standard commentary training.

In order to become a qualified commentator, you must learn to do all of the following;

  1. Whenever James Ward Prowse touches the ball, you have to say he's the best dead ball specialist in the league.

  2. Always mention the size of Jack Grealish's calves

  3. Whenever commentating on Spurs, mention how nice the new stadium is.

  4. Always mention that Mesut Ozil could solve a creativity problem for arsenal.

  5. In every Man United game randomly say the phrase 'noisey neighbours'

  6. "AND IT'S LIVE."

  7. In every Leeds match explain how Bielsa knows everything about football ever

  8. "You feel like the first goal could be important in this game" within the first 10 minutes.

  9. Tell everyone that a particular player 'knows where the goal is'.

  10. Use the phrase 'messi-esque'.

  11. "if that hit the target he would have scored"

  12. "he HAS to hit the target there"

  13. "he needs to test the keeper"

  14. Make sure you refer the Raheem Sterling as having 'genuine' pace.

  15. Always tell viewers that any other player will do well to beat Kyle Walker in a foot race.

  16. It's a game of two halves (towards end of a bad first half)

  17. Everton have a good squad on paper.

  18. "this could be a cricket score" if any team scores more than once in the first 30 minutes.

  19. Mark Noble is a no nonsense player.

  20. Its a game of two halves (any time near the start of the second half)

  21. Whenever a player hits row z, say "he does have it in his locker". If its a fanbase you think are shit and want to wind up instead say "he hasn't got his shooting boots on' (he was leaning back too far).

  22. Xhaka is fucking useless and it's ok to say it.

  23. If any player is slightly out of position you must always describe that as" schoolboy defending "

  24. Any free kick must be described as "Beckham territory", unless it is ward prowse taking it, who is obviously better than Beckham as the best dead ball specialist in the league.

  25. Needs to beat the first man (at every corner.)

  26. A chance for the defender to come up (also at every corner)

  27. Any scrap is 'a bit of handbags'

  28. Seriously where the fuck is Ozil?

  29. Mo Salah is jesus incarnate and make sure you say it everytime he is near a football, regardless of when or where or even if he is actually playing or not.

  30. Describe Kevin De Bruyne as mercurial

  31. Always be shocked that Harry Kane can also pass.

  32. As soon as Man United are in added time, say they are in 'Fergie time'.

Proud dad moment.

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.

I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.

When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."

From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"

Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.

2 years in and apparently I'm lazy...

Tl;dr: I have been with a family for two years. I have not been home in two years. I started a school and still give the family as much time as I can. They think of me as lazy and quite frankly that hurts so much considering how much I know I do for them and how tired I am at the end of the day. I want to be convinced to leave and won't leave because it means likely no longer going to the school I am at.

For context. I have been in Germany since June 2019, and have been with two children who are rule-less, careless, and spoiled. I love the kids. I stayed because of how much I took over with the kids. With two separate weeks I was alone with them, making breakfast every morning, doing activities as possible and being the main disciplinary figure. This was partially expected and although never specifically talked about, in several conversations hinted to .

When Corona started around my birthday here, I contemplated long and hard do I stay or do I go. I stayed because of how much the parents work, how much the grandparents take over the kids and how little quality time I perceived the children getting. At that point I felt like a large caring part. I know all of the therapists, I make the play dates, and all the parents and even the Teachers contact me. The cleaning lady and I have become friends because of how much I help her and she is even comfortable asking me to take something small over when she has less time(i do it happily, I enjoy living in clean environments)

The parents work from 8-20... Which is a twelve hour day. The father was gone Monday through Fridays before the pandemic began and in the last few weeks has been gone most of the week coming home on Thursdays usually.

Corona was a savior for me and this family because the parents finally saw how their boys behaved when they weren't around. They kids were getting a firmer grip on reality although I still am seen to the kids as a mat to walk on and a maid to clean up after them.

I started a school here as well and I have to take time for me to go to the school and homework. I rarely take time for my homework after school and and usually with the kids and cleaning up the kitchen until 10 pm. The kids are in bed very late and I will not bring them in bed if the parents are home. I have done it before and I felt like a such a fool.

Recently I will leave the dishes out (which they will leave out the whole day for me to do despite wfh) and do them in the morning when I set the table and ma

[ALL] What do you like about LIS2 more than previous LIS games?

Firstly, LIS1 has a unique fun gameplay because of Time Rewind powers, it's fun to see Max manipulate others, it also allows me to explore different outcomes & new conversations. Secondly, there are more relatable characters dealing with relatable scenarios. Thirdly, Mystery vibes and puzzling solving are very cool and exciting.

When it comes to LIS2, I think it did better when it comes to "Your Choices Matter". Your choices does affect people around you. Particularly Daniel, his behaviour entirely depends on your actions and how you treat him. Just like in other games (e.g Bioshock 2, Dishonored), if players go for a brutal path, they get a brutal ending where >!the deuteragonists also ended up becoming brutal & harsh, always putting themselves first, not being considerate about others. !<Meanwhile, high moral paths give good endings.

For LIS1, Max's Time powers can undo a lot of things. Chloe behaves almost the same no matter how you treat her.

Even in Tell Me Why (another choice-based game developed by DONTNOD Entertainment), your choices affects Tyler & Alyson relationship where their bond ends up strengthened or strained. If strained, their conversations became awkward, they felt uneasy around with each other. (In the end, >!they would live apart instead of living together.!< )

It feels rewarding when you receive good consequences by making good choices, such as:

  • Treating Daniel nicely strengthens the brotherhood that he becomes more obedient and less bratty to Sean. He even help Sean with his chores (e.g carrying water containers).
  • If you go more high-moral approach, Daniel becomes more responsible and considerate towards others, like he tidied his room in EP2, did the dishes in EP3, he showed concerns to police officers' lives during the breakout in EP5. (If you told high-morality Daniel to kill the police, he would refuse and the player was forced to pick other options.)
  • You teach Daniel to put himself and his brother first and it feels so satisfying to see Daniel forced all of the law enforcers out of the way and destroyed the barricade so that they both could cross the border safely.
  • In Parting Ways, you teach Daniel to obey the rules of society. Despite he didn't want to live in Mexico, he still allows Sean to cross the border to earn his freedom instead of forcing him back to the US territory and letting him being arrested. As Daniel grew up, he used his power to do good things (e.g Save a group of

Is anyone else self conscious of how things will look, if you suddenly die?

When you are nodding off to sleep and you might die during the night (because why not? people do) best not to be found with your hand down your pants. For example. And so my final thought before the Zzz's is to make sure that Isn't ever going to happen.

Some other examples of how this anxiety manifests:

Deleting your history immediately after masturbating to porn, even though it is perfectly legal porn and frankly quite vanilla.

Never leaving dirty smalls on the floor of your apartment, in case some poor detective has to come in and check them out.

Tidying the place before going to bed, so that if I am found, the person who found me doesn't think I'm untidy.
