A list of puns related to "Forced Landing (1941 film)"
[Lerner] โWith tornado sirens going off in downtown Memphis amid a tornado warning in Shelby County, the #Rocketsย team plane was forced to circle for an hour in turbulence before landing safely after 1 a.m.
Scary stuff across the country with these storms tonight. Stay safe, everyone.โ
The Rockets are playing in Memphis tonight, which was experiencing tornado warnings last night. The team plane couldnโt land until after 1am. Sounds like my worst nightmare come true.
Sorry guys, turns out Casablanca premiered in 1942, not โ41. Not sure how that slipped by, I guess the above question is a good writing prompt for analternate history?
I just saw the 2002 film Copenhagen for the first time(s) and thought I would mention that it is available for streaming on Prime Video currently. https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/copenhagen-2002
I hadn't studied this event before, but it is really fascinating and I think well done. It's originally a play for three actors and the film is true to that intense dialog format.
I've seen and read here and there about the various suffering, consternation, and chronic angst of physicists in the 1900-1970ish period and circumstances and sometimes I wonder the degree to which those external and internal pressures influenced interpretations and perhaps caused one or more interpretational priors to be off kilter.
But I think itโs only famous for how much it done for the film industry at that time. If youโre considering watching it, youโre not missing out on much. It is so incredibly dull and basically nothing happens. If you enjoyed it, good for you.
1941 was the breakthrough year for Humphrey Bogart, the lead actor in both this film High Sierra and also the excellent film noir The Maltese Falcon. Bogart had been working in cinema for a decade before he got the chance to be the protagonist, top billing and his own hit movies.
Logline: After being released from prison, notorious thief Roy Earle is hired by his old boss to help a group of inexperienced criminals plan and carry out the robbery of a California resort. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033717/?ref_=tt_urv
The great John Huston jointly wrote the screenplay for High Sierra and while he's known for his long career directing his early career is filled with films he also wrote or only wrote the screenplay for.
I encourage everyone that enjoys Bogart and/or classic movies to watch High Sierra and you'll see how influential this movie has been on writers and directors. Michael Mann's Heat for sure and there's a shot in High Sierra that the modern classic Hell or High Water purloins directly but it's most likely a tip of the hat.
Bogart is released from jail early and in return for his freedom he has to knock-over a resort in California for an old and powerful gangster. Bogart drives across the country into the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Bogart's character is complex especially for an early 1940s crime movie. He plays Roy Earle but he's been given the Nom de Guerre Mad Dog. He's a sensitive and compassionate man who is also a killer, he wants to help a young disabled woman and falls in love with her but she wants to marry another man. Bogart's willing to use violence to achieve his objectives.
The film suffers from having too much of an unnecessary sub-plot which doesn't really fit in with the main crime narrative. The sub-plot slows the story-telling down considerably.
It's not giving anything away to tell you the heist doesn't go exactly to plan and creates a number of problems for those involved but then you must have known that.
Ida Lupino got the top billing in this film and she's convincing as the girl of one of the other men involved in the heist but as soon as Bogart joins the team Lupino only has eyes for Bogart. However, it's unrequited love which adds to the intrigue.
This film is better than many of the better known Bogart movies. I'd definitely say it's in the top 10 of his films and performances. The
