A list of puns related to "Expressive therapies continuum"
Hi everyone, I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I am a certified expressive arts therapist and somatic practitioner. My work is rooted in person centred counselling and I strive to receive each client with love and utmost positive regard. I also facilitate different art modalities such as visual art, dance and movement, drama, voice, sand play and writing. While these modalities are helpful, they are also optional. If a client isn't comfortable with using art forms, we work together with somatic experiencing and talk therapy.
All my work is based on Jungian Psychology.
I work with a personal therapist who is a certified expressive arts therapist and a somatic practitioner, and for professional support and accountability, I work with a certified supervisor on a weekly basis
I need to clock in supervision hours for a college application and thus am giving the FOUR SESSIONS FREE for anyone who is interested. The sessions will take place on Zoom.
Please drop me a personal message if you're interested. I can share more details about my training and certification.
Cheers and wishing you a good day.
Anybody have any advice for me? Or maybe you could share your own story? I think it could be really helpful for others here too!
Yesterday in therapy I was telling my therapist that I'm having a hard time seeing results from EMDR (you can read more about it in my last CPTSD post in my post history) and they suggested I integrate expressive therapy as a way to open up the right side of my brain.
Which got me to thinking, I've talked the hell out of my trauma and I've read up on trauma research but this has made me "intellectualize" my trauma rather than actually make me feel my emotions and pain and let myself be vulnerable. I now see it as a way to distance myself from the trauma, sort of shielding myself from the pain.
So now I'm going to try expressive art therapy to see if I can be more in touch with my emotional side but I can't help but feel like this modality is some sort of woowoo, kumbaya crap. I'm a very research driven person and I can't seem to find much about expressive art therapy and its success in healing CPTSD. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
This might be the jaded, pessimistic side of me but do you think my therapist is trying to push me off to someone else? I wouldn't blame them, I am a very complicated and draining person. But I'm kinda getting this weird feeling that they're referring me to someone they know who is under their tutelage as a way to no longer deal with me directly but at the same time still get money from me.
Any thoughts? Thank you in advance
I tend to imagine myself talking to my therapist in my head. These can be long and sensitive discussions. Throughout the week I am eager to discuss something that I've discovered or am feeling for our next session, then during our session I sort of just skim over my list.
Do I even need a therapist? I wonder if at this point I'm just seeing him for validation. I've been seeing him twice a month for 6 months.
Hi, I don't know if this is the right subreddit to ask, but I've been doing research on Expressive Arts Therapy and there doesn't seem to be much information online. I was wondering if anyone here can help me become more informed about what is required to get the REAT certification and what exactly you can do professionally once you have acquired that?
Thank you in advance, and please, don't be afraid to guide me elsewhere if this is not the right place to ask.
Hello! I'm a grad student, and I'm struggling to come up with engaging therapy activities for a person with expressive aphasia. I feel like this should be easier than it is. Do any of you have suggestions for activities or advice on how to approach this? Thank you!
I can't find much concrete information online. I know expressive art therapists don't just cover art but music, dance, poetry, ect, however I can't figure out the differences in schooling and degrees? Does anyone know about this?
Hi all,
Firstly, to whoever is reading this, I hope you are treating yourself with compassion no matter where you are in your struggle.
Now then. I'd like to ask the community for your experience seeking therapy for your ED. Whatever therapy it is and whatever about it you'd like to share.
I will say I am especially curious of anyone who's tried expressive arts therapy. I would like to try channeling my ED into art but it's been difficult for me to start. Right now my most available medium is colored pencils. I'd really like to see my ED on paper but I'm not sure where or how to begin. If you do have pieces that represent your ED and relationship with it, would you be willing to share?
Thank you so much and wishing strength and peace for you all!
Long story short...My therapist wants me to get back into "expressive arts". They don't think my sewing qualifies because its pre-designed or always has a purpose ahead of time and not "feeling". So I guess I am leaning toward painting or wood burning?
So I was wondering what "expressive arts" do you guys do? Whether for therapy or fun it doesn't matter :) What is your favorite way to express yourself? Do you have favorite brands / tools - something you love? What is your favorite creation you made?

Again, looking specifically for the appendix of this paper! Thank you in advance.
