Unless you live in a big city like LA or New York or Boston, your midlevel city is nothing special.
I have been to many major cities in the US. All midlevel cities like Memphis or San Antonio or St Louis are basically the same. You have one attraction like Elvis' Graceland or the Alamo and then nothing else. I would always check tripadvisor for things to do. #1 is almost always the major attraction like St Louis Arch. #2 through #10 are all the same: park, zoo, aquarium, shopping walking area, generic museum, sports stadium/arena, some historical attraction no one really cares about. Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles: lots of things to do that are unique to that city. Cleveland, Dallas, San Antonio, Detroit: you are nothing special.
