History Has Shown, The MOASS Will Be Ignited By A Unexpected Black Swan Event For Shorts

TLDR: Past short squeezes have often come after a sudden unpredicted float reduction as showcased in Northern Pacific of 1901 and VW in 2008. BBBY share repurchase announcement exemplifies this quality of squeezes and sent ripples through the "meme basket".

Hi all, to quote Winston Churchhill, "The farther back you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see", so we will be using history that has occurred in past "short squeezes" as well as some recent information to mold my thesis.

Also, I found it helpful to realize that any of these trading situations from years before computerized trading with a slight grain of salt. Why? Because "a trade" took a lot longer back then, like minutes instead of microseconds, which is worldly different but general principles apply. It is only exacerbated in the complexity of modern markets by high-frequency trading and in general how fast trading has become.

1901 Northern Pacific Squeeze

A slugfest between two titans, James Hill/J.P. Morgan and Steve Harriman, in one of the last great railroad wars of America. In 1901, Union Pacific was in a shitty position, mired in bankruptcy, and not enough profit to meet its obligations. However, Steve Harriman believed that if Union Pacific could acquire railroad lines in Chicago(Burlington & Quincy Railroad) the railroad would become extremely profitable and powerful. However, James Hill and the Northern Pacific Railroad, with support from J.P. Morgan, thought the Chicago railroads would bring massive profit also. In the ensuing negotiations for Burlington. The owner of Burlington went with the Northern Pacific offer. This royally pissed of Harriman and theoretically, Hill/Morgan only owned 23% of Northern Pacific. So, Harriman became Chad Harriman and began buying Northern Pacific shares on the open market secretly to wrestle control from Hill/Morgan and utilize the Chicago railroads.

Pause, this was a 155 million dollar market in 1901 dollars(5,002,123,529 in today's dollars). Fucking huge market. So pretty much if Jeff Bezos began buying all Gamestop common shares on the open market because he believed the NFT marketplace for games would be huge.

Well, Morgan and friends didn't realize that Harriman did such a big dick wreckless move until Harriman almost owned the entire float. That's when the price started rising as the bidding war began between the two parties. As they bid up the stock, a flurry of short-sellers entered the equation. Now *enter a classic

Jerkin it with Gherkinit S15e3 Daily Charting for 1.14.21

Good Morning Apes!

Another day of downside looks like it may be in the cards as the continue to internalize buy volume. While volatility is continue to pick with very little buy pressure coming through to the lit exchange we are still experiencing declining price action.

There is a small gap from March down between 116-118, I'm not a big fan of gap fills but I would look to that range to possibly find some support. We have not historically spent much time trading at these prices and so have very little data to show support and resistance.

As of last night call volume was continuing to pick up and based on this from u/Turdfurg23 someone bought a 735k share block the morning of the 7th.

https://preview.redd.it/frrck5tjsnb81.png?width=1202&format=png&auto=webp&s=6a744543b915b88dad178de3159c0acb595ecb89

This is the largest GME block order in a very long time, and shows long institutional interest coming in. I think institutions buying this dip is bullish especially when factoring in the large call positions being opened.

There is also some speculation that this could be GME using some of the funds they have from their original share buyback agreement since the values are closely aligned. But without a statement from the company which wouldn't be due till the Q4 10Q it remains speculative.

Understanding the upcoming inflation and why it wont be transitory !

You have probably heard of the money printer going BRRRRRR during the pandemic and the currently high inflation resulting from that. You may have also heard that the US federal reserve Bank (FED) and probably also the European Zentral Bank (EZB) are going to raise interest rates in the coming years to put everything to normal.

This is what central bankers and high ranked politicians currently want you to belief, maybe some of them believe it themselves but it doesn't change the fact that it is a straight lie ! We are about to witness an unprecedented inflation period affecting the entire western world.

To prevent the whole system from collapsing, these authorities are doing the only thing they can. It is necessary to stretch this period over several years keep the masses calm during the process of devaluation. This is why they assure you: it is only transitory / we are raising interest rates and this will fix it / ... and so on. Sadly this is complete BS.

Here is the real situation:

The FED and especially the EZB were buying government bonds with freshly printed money for years, to allow governments to spend money they don't have without paying interest on it. The pandemic was only the big final topping of a long term development that started after the 2008 crash. The amount of bonds the central banks are sitting on is enormous. Since 2008, the FED three-folded the amount of Dollar in existence and the EZB even six-folded the amount of Euro in existence. This money has already been created. This is not something that could eventually happen in the future. It has already happened.

In classic economy theory, it was assumed that an increase in the amount of money will directly result into inflation. But how was it then possible that they printed and spend these gigantic amounts of fresh money without causing inflation until now ? The answer to that was given by the work of the economist John Maynard Keynes (so called liquidity trap). The short version is that depending of the current state of economy, freshly minted money is not causing instant inflation because its rather accumulated instead of put into the system. The result can be imagined like some kind of slow trickle down effect from the freshly minted money into the system which can take years. The real inflation will first appear once the new money trickled down into the circulation spheres of the average people.

But this is not a matter of if, its a matter of when. The now starting inflation i

Federal Reserve quietly purchased $164B worth of IMF issued SDR's

Alright, I don't know precisely how this ties into MOASS, but I do know this subreddit is particularly interested in information about irregular economic activities that indicate we are nearing an economic black swan event.

I noticed something particularly odd today... something that I know almost NO ONE is paying attention to.

The Federal Reserve has quietly accumulated $164B worth of the IMF's international currency called the Special Drawing Right, or SDR.

Source: https://www.federalreserve.gov/data/intlsumm/current.htm

So wtf is an SDR?

SDR's are the currency that the IMF used and still uses to bailout countries. You may recall that the IMF was bailing out countries like Greece and Ukraine a few years ago, and the news stories were always reported in "bailouts worth X billion USD". I have been paying attention to SDR's ever since the day I decided to dig a little deeper and figure out who was actually paying for all those bailouts. Turns out the IMF was not sending these countries greenbacks, they were instead paying them in SDR's.

These SDR's were once a unit that was backed by physical gold, but in recent history they have been reformed and they are exchangeable for a basket of fiat, which is reflective of the global economy.

Currently the SDR is backed by a combination of the U.S. dollar, the euro, the Chinese renminbi, the Japanese yen, and the British pound sterling.

You can read more about the Greece SDR payments here on trusty Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greece_and_the_International_Monetary_Fund

And you can read more about the IMF's public information about SDR's here:

https://www.imf.org/en/About/Factsheets/Sheets/2016/08/01/14/51/Special-Drawing-Right-SDR

Why does it matter?

In my experience, SDR's and their use are NOT widely discussed or even known about by ANYONE ANYWHERE, so I encourage you to do your own research.

That being said, I am personally of the opinion that despite the way the IMF talks about SDRs "not being a currency", the SDR is in fact a de facto global currency... because they create them and then use them to give countries money.

Given their history of being used to bail out nations, SDRs are the ultimate backstop for the global economic system.

Penultimate Peril: Ark Invest and the Mechanics of Failed Securitization

Re-post from Friday morning for all the Apes who just read about the Credit Suisse chairman and are now looking for some new DD to distract them from the markets being closed 🍌

> “Unless you were born yesterday, in which case, welcome to the world, little baby, you have probably observed that things aren't always what they seem. The surface of a pond might seem calm, when, in reality, any number of secrets might be hidden beneath it. The world is like a pond that way. When you perform even the tiniest of actions, like dropping a stone, it can ripple, until the entire world has been changed.” - Lemony Snicket, Penultimate Peril

Fluff

With Ryan Cohen’s GameStop board membership having just eclipsed the one year mark it seemed as good of a time as ever to applaud The 🪑 man for helping turn $GME around and bringing this kind attitude to the table:

> Empathy His father, Cohen said, never considered himself better than the employees who unloaded his trucks, or anyone who worked for him. When a truck would arrive at the warehouse, his father would take off his suit jacket and unload the pallets with the warehouse crew... “He put himself at the same level as people doing the hardest work,” Cohen said. “That’s where I learned empathy, that’s where I learned humility,” two important traits in a startup entrepreneur when they are trying to convince others to join them in a new company, he said. - Forbes - January 26th, 2020

RC’s setting a great example and inspiring many others persevere through an unusual time 🤜🏼🤛🏼

Preface

And while I’m sure the decision for board placement was decided well in advance, it’s coincidental that a second noteworthy event occurred on January 11th, 2020 which seems to have been a quiet catalyst preceding the January price increase and subsequent trading halt - the CDS Determination Committee’s publishing of the Europcar Mobility Group CDS auction terms. The auction, which occurred on January 13th, 2021, was ultimately characterized as a “classic short squeeze” and

I played 59 new-to-me games in 2021. Here are mini-reviews for all of them!

2021 was a difficult year, but I was lucky enough to try a ton of new games over the course of the year. Here are some brief thoughts on each of them!

##Not for me…

Roll To The Top! (3/10): Take this with a grain of salt, as roll and writes aren’t really my thing. However, this ‘back to basics’ take on the genre was probably the most bored I’ve been with any game I played in 2021. The dice switching mechanic is unnecessarily fiddly and slows the game down, which is a big problem when the best thing the game has going for it is how quickly it finishes.

Godspeed (3/10): I had high hopes for this one, but it fell completely flat. The semi-cooperative element (the ‘High Council’ event cards) just felt like they didn’t work at all. The rest of the game was more functional than this, but it wasn’t any more fun.

An Otter Won (3/10): Two-player trick taking that has some interesting ideas around set collection scoring conditions. Unfortunately, the actual trick-taking is dull and the only interesting decisions are in working out which card you should take as your reward for winning tricks. Some may enjoy it, but this felt far too mathy for us to get any enjoyment from.

Beyond The Sun (4/10): As someone with less-than-great vision, I will always consider games with vast amount of variable small text spread out across a big central board to be bad game design. I can’t remember too much about how it played to give any meaningful critiques, but I certainly found it a slog.

Fort (4/10): I’ve always been someone who enjoys building things in games, whether that’s decks, engines or anything else. Fort seems to actively push against building longer-term strategies, instead encouraging players to make the best of what’s available to them in the shorter term. Nothing wrong with that… but personally I didn’t like it at all. Fort doesn’t really have a ‘game arc’ and it made me realise how much I need that in my games.

Ghost Blitz (4/10): This is pretty much the same game as Dobble. I hate Dobble.

Oh My Goods! (5/10): We played through ‘Expedition to Newdale’ in 2020 and enjoyed it, but felt that a few of the elements added in (notably the map board) felt superfluous. Going back to Oh My Goods, the original card came Newdale was based on, quickly changed our minds. The game that’s left is slow, stodgy and not especially interesting.

##Inoffensive enough

New York Zoo (5.5/10): The polyomino puzzle is fine, and the race i

Diamantenhände 💎👐 German market is open 🇩🇪

Guten Tag to this global band of Apes! 👋🦍

###DST has ended in Germany, so until the US also adjusts this thread will begin an hour later than usual and only update for one hour before US premarket.

While yesterday's normal market action was another in a string of great days, it was the after-hours action that really jacked some tits. It seems that BBBY taking an aggressive stance toward the abusive short institutions caused a massive jump in share value, dragging all of the other 'basket' stocks up with BBBY. This further validates the Basket Theory, wherein the short positions are lumped together. Since BBBY is spiking, the demand spills over to other basket contents.

This wasn't even the big news we were expecting this week! There are multiple signs that GameStop is going to announce something big, and if true it is going to be an extremely heavy blow to an already staggering opponent. GME has a far larger short position than BBBY, and Apes have been DRSing shares, and HODLing with Diamantenhände. The anticipated NFT news is plenty to set it off, but I just realized that GameStop knows exactly how many shares aren't yet held at ComputerShare, and could land a fatal blow simply by enacting a share buyback of that total. Friends, I could not be more jacked to see how the German markets lead us into US premarket!

Today is Wednesday, November 3rd, and you know what that means! Join other apes around the world to watch infrequent updates from the German markets!

Ela chegou a casa e chamou o cão.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

The Puzzle Pieces of Quarterly Movements, Equity Total Return Swaps, DOOMPs, ITM CALLs, Short Interest, and Futures Roll Periods. Or, "The Theory of Everything".

0. Preface

I am not a financial advisor and I am not providing you financial advice.

I know that many, MANY people have looked into swaps, equity swaps, total return swaps, and so forth over the months. There's quite a few DDs on the matter! I either never saw the posts or did not dig into them until lately. So please know that the Equity Total Return Swap stuff is not my original theory. I've just tried to expand on it to fit the pieces together. The price movements, the Deep OTM PUTs (DOOMPs), ITM CALLs, and where Short Interest went. Which I'll discuss here.

I'm stealing this image from u/Chucry. Really sorry - I love the picture too much.

1. Equity Total Return Swaps - Hidden Short Interest

/u/quiquealfa described their theory about Equity Swaps being the main culprit in the meme stock price movements to me. So we started digging into the theory.

I was googling in a chain about Credit Default Swaps that led me to Equity Default Swaps which led me to 'Synthetic Prime Brokerages' which then led to Total Return Swaps, which finally led me to this post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/ojh2eh/ultimate_wargame_theory_the_beginning_total/

Which I think is so amazing. It discusses Total Return Swaps and all of the players who may be involved in this "meme stock" situation. As u/Blanderson_Snooper calls them - the "Voltron Fund". This isn't just Melvin Capital and a few other SHFs being short. It's likely to be a massive amount of SHFs and SFOs around the world that abused naked shorting on a basket of stocks, putting not just the SHFs and SFOs at risk but the market makers and banks at risk as well.

Basically, they're all fucked if these stocks squeeze. The SHFs. The SFOs. The Market Makers. The Banks. All of them involved.

Lewis Hamilton vs Adrian Sutil - 2005 Formula 3 Euro Series: Junior Formula Teammate Battle

Hello everyone,

Over the last few days I decided to start looking back at F1 drivers who were once teammates in junior categories - and perhaps start a mini series about it. We must be wary that junior category performances vary quite a lot if the comparison is not fair - for instance big gaps in experience, age and maybe even team quality/resource.

However, where possible, I’ve found a few interesting head to heads where the playing field was pretty even - starting with the 2005 Formula 3 Euro Series title winning pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Adrian Sutil. Here’s how the two of them stacked up against each other:

CATEGORY HAMILTON SUTIL
RACES TOGETHER 18 18
POINTS 172 94
CHAMPIONSHIP POS 1st 2nd
WINS 13* 2
POLES 11* 1
FASTEST LAPS 9* 3
RACE H2H (BOTH FINISHED) 11 2
QUALI H2H 15 2
MED QUALI GAP -0.687%

*Lewis actually notched 15 wins, 13 poles and 10 fastest laps that season but Sutil didn’t contest the final round in Hockenheim, thus those races aren’t included in their personal H2H

I can’t claim that I watched this series from start to finish back in 2005, because I didn’t - but the best I could do before crunching the numbers was to go back on YouTube and watch the races available to me.

After seeing both of their F1 careers unfold their performance gap doesn’t surprise me at all. Sutil had a solid F1 career himself - and had some decent performances for Force Indi, but I guess all this shows is the class difference between a lingering midfield runner and a now 7x WDC.

I hope you enjoyed this one, if you have any more suggestions please let me know!

[Video Games] The Xbox One: How Microsoft cost themselves an entire console generation with one bad announcement after another

Shout out to this recent video made by Stop Skeletons From Fighting for providing the reminder of this story and the writeup.

> Introduction

Console wars have always been a part of video games, going all the way back to the 90s with the feud between Sega and Nintendo. It makes sense from a tribalism perspective; consoles are hefty purchases so you need to be able to feel secure that you bought the right one, especially if you're a child as you may not have the funds to secure the competition unless your parents were exceedingly generous. Today's post focuses on one such entry into the console war, and how focusing on the wrong aspects cost its parent company the entire generation in terms of PR and public image. This is the story of the Xbox One.

> The setup

In 2000, Microsoft would enter the console market race with the original heavy-enough-to-be-a-murder-weapon Xbox. While it would fail to beat its primary competition, Sony's Playstation 2, it would carve out a niche for itself in the Americas, helped by several successful exclusives like Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 2, fantasy RPG Fable, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Then again, going blow to blow with the PS2 is no small feat given it's the best selling console of all time as of writing at over a hundred and fifty five million units.

In 2005, Microsoft wound launch the Xbox 360 and this would be a much bigger blow against Sony. In fact, for much of this console generation (generally seen as the 7th generation, or Pokemon Sony and Microsoft) it was the common opinion that Microsoft had won. This was thanks to Sony's Playstation 3 being an overpriced beast of a machine that was way harder to develop for thanks to its processing techniques, while Nintendo had gone for a more casual gaming audience with the Nintendo Wii. Thanks to heavy hitter exclusives (some timed) like Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock and Fable 2, the 360 quickly became the juggernaut console of the generation, in spite of having a disaster launch involving the console overheating itself to death with the infamous Red Ring of Death issue. Chances were, if you saw a show on TV with characters playing video games betw

Confusion on what QYLD actually sells

Since there have been a lot of questions that show a misunderstanding of how QYLD actually operates here is a breakdown:

QYLD sells AM settled, Euro-styled, cash settled calls on $NDX on the first monday after the third friday of the month expiring on the third friday of the next month. I.e. they will sell an ATM call at market open on Jan 24th expiring Feb 18th.

breaking this down:

 1. AM settled: they settle at the opening price on the day of expiration not the closing price. This means they can't be traded on the day of expiration and immediately close at the opening bell.

 2. euro-style means that they can't be assigned early. combined with AM settled this means that the only price that matters is the opening price on the day of expiration, nothing else.

 3. cash settled means that the call is settled in cash not shares. so if the $NDX is above the premium + strike then GlobalX pays out the difference in cash to the option buyer. They are covered calls in that GlobalX holds the entire underlying so as to be able to sell shares to cover the difference. These are registered as a capital loss which is why most months they pay out a return of capital.

3a) if the $NDX instead ends below the premium + Strike then globalX gets the difference in cash up to the value of the premium is the $NDX ends below the strike. This would be registered as a capital gain and if any of these are not offset by capital losses over and above what is paid out in any dividends then we get it all back in the december dividend. This is what happened this past december as GlobalX took in more in premium then they were forced to pay out in dividends + cash settled calls.

 1. $NDX is the actual index. They do not own the index obviously, but globalX owns a basket of shares that emulates the index akin to QQQ or other related ETFs. you too can trade covered calls on the $NDX if you have 1,554,794 in shares per call.

Days of Future Past Pt. 2a (Kweku Adoboli + Jerome Kerviel...Rogue Trading Unhedged, Naked & Afraid)

Or "Rogue Traders + How Past Weapons of Mass Destruction Might Be Relevant to GME’s Story Now"

https://preview.redd.it/9nz0z8l65jl71.png?width=686&format=png&auto=webp&s=f09b987db3255d984f98701f3bf01fe0e13d42dd

So why a Pt. 2 you might ask, as Pt. 1 was about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Well, Pt. 1 was about the use of swaps which was barely featured in rogue trading strategies of the 4 traders I viewed. No Iksil shows up here for Pt. 2, because it’s not worth talking about a strategy he never used (at least that I was able to find in my research). But for the others, here’s a hint to what days of future past and their rogue traders meant, namely Margot Robbie's wardrobe choices:

https://preview.redd.it/h65z56g75jl71.png?width=685&format=png&auto=webp&s=72d6324c73e6690c6286b93fc02d2c5649a190b3

TL;DR: Famous/infamous rogue traders Kweku Adoboli (UBS) & Jerome Kerviel (Societe Generale) had some form of naked/unhedged strategy as part of their massive rogue trading losses. This matters most, esp in case of Adoboli, Kerviel, who are often seen as “patsys” for their crimes. This may imply 2 big bank/market corrections (like we see with GME) due to naked/unhedged strategies have already happened in the past.

0. Preface

In Pt. 1, I did kind of mislead about Patricio Morel’s definition in the last post, because this is the entire definition:

>“[Rogue] Trading activity that undertakes speculative and unprotected one-way trading positions (naked trading – without or with inadequate hedging positions), with the aim of creating large profits once the market moves in favor of the position. Typically, fraudulent activity is undertaken to hide the one-way nature of the trade by manipulating internal controls and systems. The frequency of this fraudulent activity increases when the markets move in an unfavorable way to the position, in an attempt to [cover] actual P&L losses, until a time when the market moves too far in an unfavorable way, thus exposing the position.”

Now let’s see if Morel was right and that I’m not just putting words in their mouth.

1. Adoboli: Prologue

Note: This will largely summarize 4-5 posts on UBS history of naked shorting and the Adoboli saga. You can skip if you’d like! ONCE AGAIN SKIP THIS IF YOU WANT AND GO TO 1A

For the full Adoboli saga I might link it below, but as far as a short summary of the UBS/Adoboli saga, let’s do a speed run of Adoboli’s history in

Who is the youngest player that would be a hall of famer if they retired today?

My immediate thought was Giannis, he's only 26 and his resume speaks for himself. 2 MVPS, ring, FMVP, DPOY, 5X All-NBA, 5X All Star, etc. I feel that he is the upper limit to this question because I really don't see an argument for how he isn't already a hall of famer.

But then a second name came into my head, Luka Doncic. Before you call me dumb remember that it's the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame. Luka has a Euro League MVP, championship, and Final 4 MVP. With Slovenia he won Euro Basket 2017 and made all tournament team with his only NBA teammate being Goran Dragic (granted Goran did win MVP) and more recently took Slovenia to 4th place in the olympics this past summer and made all tournament team with his only NBA teammate being Vlatko Cancar.

In regards to his NBA accomplishments he is a ROTY, 2X all star, and 2X first team All-NBA while having amazing statistics through his first 3 years. The only HOF eligible player who made first team All-NBA multiple times since 1952 and isn't inducted is Penny Hardaway.

Ultimately, I don't think that Luka has done quite enough to a hall of fame lock if he retires today, but if he can finish on All-NBA first team again this year and win EuroBasket this summer while also winning tournament MVP I'd be hard pressed to say that he isnt a lock. Do you think someone else younger than Giannis such as Jokic is a HOF lock or would someone else entirely be the answer to this question?

Background:
Laylow, born Jeremy Larroux on March 12, 1993, is an Ivorian-French rapper hailing from Toulouse. Raised in Toulouse and Abidjan, his introduction to hip-hop was through the American stars of the early and mid 2000s, namely G-Unit and Ja Rule.

His musical career began as part of the Toulousian collective Fattoyz, which is nowadays only active as a streetwear brand, and his first mixtape, heavily inspired by American West Coast rap, was a collaboration with fellow Toulousian Sir’Klo, titled Roulette rousse or Russian Roulette, and released in February of 2013. This tape also included Laylow’s first collaboration with Montpelliér rapper Wit., who would go on to feature on most of Laylow’s solo projects. Later that year, the duo of Laylow and Sir’Klo dropped another tape, a free EP titled 310.

In 2014, Laylow released his first solo works, a trilogy of EPs titled Volume Uno, Volume II Asian Tour, and Volume 3, between March and November of that year. Notably, the name “Mr. Anderson” appeared for the first time in the production credits of these EPs, being Laylow’s alter ego and production alias. Laylow’s next offering, a 201

[Reality Television] A “Sociopath” And A Sexual Assault Scandal Take A Social Experiment To Its Limit, Or The First “Bad” Season Of Survivor: Thailand

Trigger Warnings: Sexual assault and harassment, racism, rape, bullying

39 Days

16 People

1 Survivor

By 2002, Survivor had already established itself as one of the biggest shows on national television, with well over twenty million viewers nationwide tuning in each week to see who would become the next “Sole Survivor”. Riding off its tremendous success, Survivor would turn to Thailand for its fifth season. With 16 new contestants, on top of several new twists production hoped would help evolve the game, it looked like this season had all the ingredients to continue Survivor’s home run streak. Unfortunately, Survivor: Thailand would soon become known as the first “bad” season of Survivor according to fans, and responsible for some of Survivor’s earliest and most controversial happenings. Known for its awful cast, uncomfortable drama, and plenty of scenes that have aged poorly each passing year, Thailand remains one of the most infamous seasons in Survivor history.

What Is Survivor?

Feel free to skip if you’ve read any of my previous write ups, I recommend my first Game Changers thread or my Island of Idols write up for further reading as both incidents will be referenced in some capacity here.

Survivor is a reality television competition where contestants are stranded on a deserted location and compete for a million dollars while living with the bare essentials. Upon arrival, contestants are split up into teams, called tribes, and compete for rewards to improve their living conditions as well as immunity from Tribal Council. The losing contestants must make the trek to Tribal Council to vote someone off their tribe: whoever has the most votes will be eliminated from the game. When about half the cast has been eliminated, the tribes are merged into one and contestants must then compete individually to win immunity. Finally, when only a handful of castaways remain, the contestants who have made it to the merge but were voted off form a jury that chooses which remaining contestant will earn the title of Sole Survivor, winner of the million dollar grand prize.

Each season varies in structure, and there are numerous twists and changes incorporated to switch things up, but Survivor at its core is t

Bridgewater Makes $1.5 Billion Options Bet on Falling Market

World’s largest hedge fund takes on a big bearish trade; founder Dalio says firm’s overall position on market isn’t negative

Bridgewater Associates LP has bet more than $1 billion that stock markets around the world will fall by March, said people familiar with the matter.

The wager, assembled over a span of months and executed by a handful of Wall Street firms, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley, would pay off for the world’s biggest hedge fund if either the S&P 500 or the Euro Stoxx 50—or both—declines, some of the people said.

It is made up of put options, which are contracts that give investors the right to sell stocks at a specific price, known as a strike, by a certain date. They allow investors to shell out a relatively small amount of cash to hedge a larger portfolio or make a directional wager. The options expire in March and currently represent one of the largest bearish bets against the market.

Is betting against the market right now a good or bad idea? Join the conversation below.

Bridgewater paid roughly $1.5 billion for the options contracts, or just about 1% of the Westport, Conn., firm’s $150 billion in assets under management, according to people familiar with the matter.

The options contracts are tied to around $100 billion worth of the indexes, said people familiar with the matter. How much the firm stands to potentially make would depend on many factors, including the magnitude of any market decline and the timing of when the firm cashes in its bet.

It couldn’t be determined why Bridgewater made the investment. Several clients said it may simply be a hedge for significant exposure to equity markets the firm has built up. Funds often hedge, or take offsetting positions, against other exposure to protect against losses.

One True Crime Case From Every Country Part 1: Africa, A-M

(A little something I decided to put together. Some cases have more detailed descriptions than others. I hope to do this for every continent)

ALGERIA: Boumehraz (Early 1960s - 1967)

Boumehraz real name Daho Said was a serial killer constantly beaten by his mother who engaged in the occult and fortune telling and was often described as a "witch" Daho would beat her to death with a mehraz after reaching the breaking point and would flee to the Algerian city of Oran. After settling in Oran he would start to kill various women who reminded him of his mother with a mehraz however in 1967 he was arrested after his last victim fought back and the residents beat and restrained him. He was executed by fire squad and urinated before being shot dead.

I did a write up on this case

ANGOLA: A Luz do Mundo (2007 - 2016)

A Luz do Mundo was a cult/sect founded in 2007 by a man named José Julino Kalupeteca after he was expelled from the Seventh-day Adventist Church. A Luz do Mundo would come into conflict with authorities as early as 2012 when José urged and instructed his followers not to take part in the Angolan elections and also urged followers not to get vaccinated or take their children to school, not to eat certain foods and to sell their belongings and homes to live closer to the sect's base.

He also told them not to take part in the 2014 Angolan census however in late 2014 an agreement between the government and A Luz do Mundo was reached. This agreement soon broke down and in April, 2015 the police arrived at their compound to arrest José on unspecified charges after several clashes between police and members of the sect caused the death of a police officer. José's private security guards would open fire on the police killing 9 officers.

The compound was soon raided which led to an official death toll of 13 all being José's security guards and the arrest of 90 members. José was sentenced to 28 years for the deaths of the nine officers and also due to illegal firearms and weapons being discovered in his compound. Clashes between police and the sect continued into 2016.

The trial and arrest has been criticized for it's irregularities and many accused the police of human rights violations w

Is Citadel really is trying to Madoff 2.0? With lots of the same players even?

I tried posting this during trading hours and it got lost, gonna try to add more info with the new title. I think they may have been trapped, Madoff style.

History doesn't repeat itself but these guys sure tried to rhyme with internalization.

To start, I'll give a definition from the SEC

> Internalization

> When you place an order to buy or sell a stock, your broker has choices on where to execute your order. Instead of routing your order to > a market or market-makers for execution, your broker may fill the order from the firm's own inventory. This is called "internalization." In this way, your broker's firm may make money on the "spread" – which is the difference between the purchase price and the sale price.

> On September 14, 1999, Citigroup’s Smith Barney, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs partnered with Madoff to compete with the New York Stock Exchange in a venture called Primex Trading.

> Madoff had purchased the rights to a new technology called Financial Auction Network (FAN) created by Christopher Keith, a 17-year veteran of technology creation at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Keith had retired from the NYSE and started a technology think tank in lower Manhattan in the early 1990s called Exchange Lab. FAN was one of the early technology offerings and the rights to develop it were bought by Madoff, ostensibly with stolen customer funds it now appears. The firm that emerged was Primex Trading, a division of Primex Holdings.

> In addition to Keith from the New York Stock Exchange, Primex hired Glen Shipway, the Executive Vice President of Nasdaq, whose duties had included market surveillance of broker dealers. Madoff and his big Wall Street partners told the press that the purpose of the venture was to bring better price execution on stock trades to the investing public. A very different motive was at work.

> The real goal for Primex was to legitimize the highly questionable practice of “internalization,” where big Wall Street firms match their customers’ buy and sell orders in house.

Ben Taylor / Thinking Basketball's recent Top 75 players pod (transcribed)

Just thought I'd share this for anyone who wasn't keen to listen to the whole episode (I'd suggest listening anyway at like 1.5 speed, it was really interesting and not everything Ben said made it; I basically only included his actual list but there was a lotta fun content on the edges that I didn't include)

 • Podcast by guest Cody Houdek and host Ben Taylor, who runs the Thinking Basketball YouTube channel and wrote the Backpicks Top 40

 • Pod link: https://twitter.com/ElGee35/status/1451671346820182019

 • Btw, there was a bunch of stuff about other players who didn't make it onto Ben's list but DID make the actual list (Pistol Pete etc.) that I didn't transcribe bc it was not on this episode but the previous top 75 episode a few weeks back, here's the link to that one: https://twitter.com/ElGee35/status/1441493128658100235

Before we start: The spirit of the podcast is just to discuss the list, and to understand that there are probably about 95 guys who can make these 75 slots, and to generate conversation as a result. (note: Ben also says a ton of stuff that I didn't record down between each of the picks and also before the list officially started.) However, Ben strongly disagrees with keeping the old 50 essentially apparently all being voted in again. As we learn more about the game, we can learn to evaluate players better, and more players can and should be sorted in and out of the list as voters become smarter and more informed (he goes more into this in the pod)

Ben's Criteria: Career value. Peaks. Also, if possible, trying to include a smattering of a few of the best at each area of the game (scoring, playmaking, defense, shooting). Scalability is slightly considered, so if 2 players had a similar career/peak then the more scale-able player got the nod (side note: in Ben Taylor parlance, scalable skills are those that increase in value on better and better teams, e.g. defense, passing, shooting, offensive rebounding. You can think of it as attributes that great ceiling-raisers have. Steph, KG, Bird, KD, Draymond are examples of ultra-scalable players; LeBron, Magic, Nash, Luka, Harden less so - they're moreso elite floor-raisers)

my EVERYTHING - my whole collection, from antiques to mallninja shit.

I've posted the weapons I'm proud of here before, both as a collection and individually as I buy them, but I don't think I've ever shown my whole collection before, so I figured it would be fun to drag everything out and see if I could get it all in one shot. I couldn't, so I took several pics by category.

ANTIQUES --

from left to right:

 1. knights of st. john fraternal order sword. Probably dates to the 1880s or 90s or so. found at a roadside antique barn. Seems to be rightly heat treated carbon steel, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be an effective weapon due to it's flexibility.

 2. US 1840 NCO sword. found at an antique store. 1862 dated, made by ames.

 3. British 1845 infantry officer's sabre. Made by Mole in birmingham, unknown date. Canadian military issue.

 4. French 1845 adjutant's sabre. Date unknown. Probably WWI issue if I were to guess.

wishlist in this category: a kyu-gunto. friedrich nietzsche on here has been pushing auctions my way for a while for this (thanks!), but sadly I've been pretty broke for months, so I cannot buy one. Still, meiji's westernization of japan has been piquing my interest for a while now, so it's definitely something I want to get ahold of.

REPRO SHARPS --

from left to right:

 1. Unknown katana. Probably a masahiro dragon. Friends bought it for me over 10 years ago from a local headshop. I utterly destroyed this sword when I was younger, so I re-etched a fake hamon on it last year with mustard. not a very good sword, but I keep it for sentiment.

 2. Hanwei TP norman sword. My first euro-repro. Grip started coming apart so I re-gripped it with brown suede leather a few months ago. Kinda considering mirror polishing it for fun.

 3. Hanwei cromwell. I've cord wrapped the grip since the original grip is absurdly skinny and added a leather basket liner to keep it from eating my hands. Tried to polish out Hanwei's fake age treatment on the blade too. If I ever had to fight a "real sword fight" (unlikely and absurd as that is), this would be the sword I currently have that I'd want to do it with.

wishlist: a custom sharp Castille broadsword blade.

HEMA WEAPONS --

shields, top to bottom:

 1. 9" fluted steel buckler by GDFB. bought from KoA.

 2. Home made targe. made it out of a 1.5 foot tabletop blank, some faux leather, and a cheap walmart belt. these are very simple

***List of top IBS researchers worlwide***

With the help of u/Robert_Larsson suggestions, I've made a list with some of the most relevant researchers of this syndrome in the last 5-10 years (as of December, 2021).

Any suggestions are welcome, but it's better if we stick to researchers which still have either a long career ahead of them, or consolidated teams that will succeed them and continue their work.

Once we have a definite list, it would be a good idea to get in touch with these teams and find out how patients (those who want & are financially stable) can donate money for their research through a secure channel - please remember these guys are the closest in the world to finding out the actual causes of IBS.

Without further ado, this is the list, organized by research topics:

UNDERSTANDING AND TREATING VISCERAL PAIN

Visceral pain is the main feature of IBS, so basically all researchers in this list are investigating it, one way or another. However, some explore it more indirectly (looking at the immune system, microbiota, dietary treatments...) and others not only do that but also focus on the central/enteric nervous system itself, the ultimate source of visceral pain, trying to develop new therapeutic targets and treatment compounds as they go. I created a specific category for them, since their research is difficult to encapsulate in "just" one category, and their work does have an additional focus on the neurological dysfunctions that shape IBS pain.

• Stuart Brierley, Flinders University, Australia/ In a groundbreaking study, his team discovered the existence of pruritogenic receptors (receptors usually found in the skin, able to mediate pain/itch sensation) in the human gut back in 2019, and also described how these receptors were "sensitized" in IBS patients. They have made some sound findings in IBS, and are also studying spider venom as a possible source for a synthetic pain relieving drug. Definitely one of the strongest IBS research teams in the world. "Our group investigates the underlying causes of chronic visceral pain, and the development of new treatments. Using state of the art molecular, anatomical and functional approaches allows us to study mechanisms from the single cell through to in vivo and clinical studies".

You can find more information about their current projects here or in their Twitter account [@V

Part 2: The Bankruptcy Jackpot & GME MOASS Theory (GameStop History)

If you haven't already, please read Part 1 of this post ‘Why Gamestop may be the Opportunity of a Lifetime, and why you should take another look at it’.

The premise for this post is the theory that GameStop Shares (GME) have been, and continue to be, heavily manipulated. The manipulation has created extensive counterfeit shares and hidden failure to deliver (FTD) short positions. When these counterfeit shares and short positions are forced to cover and close their positions, there is a high probability of a ‘Short Squeeze’ or a 'MOASS.

1. Explaining Short Selling & Naked Short Selling
2. Explaining the Bankruptcy Jackpot and MOASS Theory
3. GameStop's History

Part 1. Short Selling and Naked Short Selling

Short Selling

The selling of shares you don’t own is called short selling. Market participants will sell a share they don’t own, with a commitment to buy it back later and the intention that they repurchase the share at a lower price than they sold it. If the price goes up, short sellers have an infinite risk. For example, if you hold GME and a Short Hedge Fund (SHF) needs to buy your share to cover their short position and no one else is selling, the SHF must pay your asking price = infinite loss potential to the SHF.

Short Squeeze

A short squeeze is an unusual condition that triggers rapidly rising prices in a stock. When a stock is heavily shorted, and investors are buying shares — which pushes the price up — short sellers start buying to cover their position and minimize losses as the price keeps rising. This can create a “short squeeze”:

If a stock's price rises quickly, then short sellers sometimes scramble to close out their positions as rapidly as possible. For a short squeeze to occur, the security must have an unusual degree of short sellers holding positions in it. As the price jumps unexpectedly higher, short positions can also be forced to cover and close their short positions. This adds buying pressure and contributes to increasing the price of the stock. This higher price may cause other short positions to be forced to cover and close their short positions, driving the price even higher. Typically this is accompanied by other long investors also purchasing the stock in an attempt to profit from the short squeeze (often referred to as FOMO).

Naked Short Selling

Typically, you cannot sel

"Against the Day" Group Read | Week 2 | Sections 1-6

Howdy folks!

Excited to be kicking off the journey through this incredible novel this week. Against the Day is honestly tied with Gravity's Rainbow as my favorite Pynchon novel, so I'm stoked to dive in again and read what others think. Next week, u/LordNovhe will take us through sections 7-10 (pages 57-118, Penguin edition). The full schedule is available here. Beyond a summary and analysis, I've addressed some broader themes that are just beginning to emerge in these early pages in the interest of laying a strong foundation for your read-through and giving you some sign-posts for an expansive story, but I am religiously against spoilers, so fear not.

Summary & Analysis

Section 1

"Now single up all lines!" Thus begins our adventure with the Chums of Chance, a plucky group of aeronauts and their ship, the Inconvenience, in the year 1893, as they head toward the Chicago World's Fair (a.k.a. the World's Columbian Exposition), and all the modern miracles it promised. The Chums are straight out of the boy's adventure novels of that era (in particular, see Tom Swift and His Airship, which I suspect was one of the sources of inspiration for Pynchon). "Single up all lines" is a sailing and aeronautical term for undoing the secondary mooring lines holding the Chums' balloon to the ground, in preparation for takeoff, leaving only single lines holding it down. We're one sentence in, and Pynchon has already laid the groundwork for recurring themes of the novel: doubling, and the reduction of potential lines of possibility down to single final outcomes. Seems fitting for a novel building up to World War 1, no? It's also noted that the ship is "decked out in patriotic bunting," emphasizing the all-American idealism of the Chums.

We also can't overlook the epigraph, by jazz great Thelonious Monk: "It's always night, or else we wouldn't need light." Here's another theme, not just of Against the Day, but of many of Pynchon's works: light vs dark (but often in an inverted manner from their traditional connotations).

The Chums include Randolph St. Cosmo, the commander; Lindsay Noseworth, Master-at-Arms and generally irritable stickler for the rules; Darby Suckling, the baby of the bunch; Miles Blundell, Handyman Appr

Things that really upset me that he won't acknowledge.

 • Grabbing boobs and butt in front of kids despite asking him not to.

 • Comments in front of his family about me not paying or contributing to home.

 • Constant sexual innuendos for every single conversation to the point I don't want to talk anymore.

-No boundaries with touching and personal space.

-Stalks my period cycle. Counts down to when it's coming and when it's finished so he can pester for sex again.

-Every time i meet up with my best friend he jokes we are lesbians.

-Quizzes me as to why my friend has no other close friends and just me.

-constant hinting for anal sex despite saying no.

-Jealous of the dog and says it gets more attention than him.

-Jealous our kids get to tell me their news first and goes insane when he can't speak first.

-Is a member of filthy WhatsApp groups with porn etc.

-Makes sexual references and jokes about me in front of tradesmen or people who call to the house.

-I'm 2 weeks out from hysterectomy and he's still hinting for sex.

I'm leaving anyway but just wanted some perspective from other women.

ETA: he also unlocks the bathroom door from the outside when I'm in the bath to come in and cop a feel. He also sniffs my underwear from the laundry basket.

ETA again - fuck you to the men inboxing me calling me names and abusing me. I must have struck a cord with your own behaviour for you to private message me abuse and not have the balls to publicly comment it. Pathetic.

This is a DM from u/babikababi. Just gonna publish them all now instead of deleting.

I wish your husband will be free of a sorry excuse to a wife like you. I'm almost 200% sure you are fat, unattractive and he can get better. I wish you break up with him so that poor victim will be free of your claws and find a the woman he deserves. 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

This post will concentrate on media from January to December - hopefully i wont run out of character limits to do this.

I am going to showcase the articles one would see from the retail side, this time from fool.com because they have great coverage alongside what i consider was some of the pivotal DD.

I will be making a part 4 that summarises all the dd and all the DD authors - so if your dd isnt here or you feel i missed on e- please comment below - i am trying to demonstrate the insanity of MSM and how they tried to still drive the narrative even AFTER it was (maybe to me) very clear what is going on.

Diamantenhände 💎👐 German market is open 🇩🇪

Guten Tag to this global band of Apes! 👋🦍

###DST has ended in Germany, so until the US also adjusts this thread will begin an hour later than usual and only update for one hour before US premarket.

Wednesday was a very telling day. It confirmed several very important tenets of the GME Squeeze: that 'baskets' of meme stocks are swapped to the books of bag-holding banks, and strong movement in one is likely to lift the others. Additionally, the run up to $250 prompted an aggressive short attack back to $215, likely due to the 1-hour margin requirements. Finally, that GME has just as much gusto as ever, ending the day up $11 after enduring the strongest pushback from the hedgies in months.

With so much activity happening in the stock, there is still plenty to discuss about the company. We have further hints at the LoopRing and GameStop partnership launching soon, and with the extended conference call yesterday the announcement might be imminent. One thing is certain: Ryan Cohen and company are moving carefully and with determination to fundamentally change the business model of GameStop. When they are ready to announce, they will, and I have no doubt that it will be both huge and well-received by eager customers. I am proud to be a shareholder of this company, and no amount of price spikes/dips/FOMO is going to change that.

Today is Thursday, November 4th, and you know what that means! Join other apes around the world to watch infrequent updates from the German markets!

But how was it then possible that they printed and spend these gigantic amounts of fresh money without causing inflation until now ? The answer to that was given by the work of the economist John Maynard Keynes. The short version is that freshly minted money is not causing instant inflation. There has to happen some kind of trickle down effect from the freshly minted money into the system which can take years. The inflation will first appear once the new money trickled down into the circulation spheres of the average people.

But this is not a matter of if, its a matter of when. The now starting inflation is basically the beginning of this trickle down effect reaching the financial spheres of average people. But sadly it is only the first tip of a giant amoun
