Gracias.
It looked like a vehicle vs. bicycle. Hope all are ok.
Turn on any episode of Spartacus and you'll know what to expect; graphic violence and raunchy sex done with more gore, brutality and explicitness than anything else that we've ever seen on television. It is one of the most distinctive shows because of this alone, and easily one of my favorites of all time. But over the course of its run, with the 4 installment the series has offered us (Blood and Sand; Gods of the Arena; Vengeance; War of the Damned), even I must admit Spartacus is quite a mixed bag. A series that was destined for great and unfortunate things, both on and off screen, from the very start, just as proposed for our main character himself.
Spartacus is about the icon himself, the Thracian gladiator who was the leader of the slave rebellion against the Roman Republic in The Third Serville War. So, you know where this story is heading from the get-go, but Spartacus isn't a series that's overly concerned with history, or getting it right, and that is a good thing here because it is guilt-free in forming its own story from the scraps of history that was passed down to us. This is just as much a series about the slave rebellion as it is about being a gladiator, as it is about the Roman higher ups maneuvering their way to power and glory, as it is about avenging the death of lost love ones. And for a series as hardcore as Spartacus is, you might be surprised how much of a driving factor romance is for all these characters and their cause.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand premiered January 22, 2010. And it wasn't the most attractive thing at first. The first episode shows our hero in his homeland of Thrace, on the brink of being betrayed and enslaved by the Roman army, and his wife taken from him by them to suffer the same fate. It is interesting plot-wise but visually the series comes off as a poorly done rip-off of 300 (2006). The CGI blood that splashes onto screen as if paint will be jarring at first, which was most likely a result of very low budgeting (maybe), but the series is able to forge that into its own comic book-esque style. And visually, the series improves a lot by the 2nd episode once it is stationed in Batiatus' Ludus, where most of the res

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies 😂
It really does, I swear!
They’re on standbi
Pilot on me!!
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
#Rewatch sessions #39: Les Revenants
Les Revenants is a show about people coming back from the dead and reuniting with their love ones. And that is quite a familiar premise in the history of storytelling, as it has been redone time and time again in some way or form. Les Revenants though, is one of the strangest and most surreal takes you'll come across. A supernatural mystery drama that's distinctive in look and tone, with a uniquely quiet atmosphere, never-ending suspense, and an undramatic approach to its storytelling. It's a series that captures you're attention on many levels. It's shrouded in mystery, but never too revealing, as its folklore roots is an aspect it leaves viewers to figure out themselves. And it's just an unordinary beauty to watch, not only in regards to storytelling, but in its directing, cinematography, and the delicate way it does... everything really.
Setting/location is the foundation of Les Revenants' beauty. Filmed in Haute-Savoie, most of the sites selected are located around the agglomeration of Annecy, with the notable exception of the emblematic Tignes dam, located in Savoie, or the Séguret's family house located in Menthon Saint Bernard etc. Annecy is the series' identity though. Its lusciously mountainous views and calm atmosphere provided the perfect place to set such a story. The aesthetic it gives very much resembles that of the nature pictures you'd see hanging on walls in houses, offices etc. Everything is so still and serene, even the trees seem to refuse to sway with the winds. The series fully utilizes this, centering this resurrection story at a place that comes off just as lifeless as the returned, elevating the sense of mystique with a place majestically suiting.
From there, everything falls into a cohesive unison, as all other aspects are done to complement this setting. The camera-work is often stationary, giving the impression of characters walking along still imagery. It goes in motion to track characters or sweep around a specific area whenever necessary, mostly to heighten tension and/or suspense for a specific scene. The performances are as effortless as intended, emphasizing the subtle reactions to the most shocking and unbelievable occurrences, as our characters are usually desperate to keep their composure in unsettl

It centers around Grace Marks herself, and Dr. Simon Jordan, a psychiatrist hired to do a psychiatric evaluation of the celebrated murderess. Through long conversations with Grace distrustfully sharing her life story to the weak willed doctor, he tries to peel back the layers of this subtly odd individual, in attempt to uncover how involved she was in the infamous murders of her master Thomas Kinnear and housekeeper Nancy Montgomery at the hands of fellow servant James McDermott. But the mystery lies less with the murders, and more with the character of Grace herself. Was she was the mastermind or the acts of merely coerced? And besides that, what drives her? And what is the source/cause of her seldom memory loss, especially around this tragic event?
It's a series that calmly lies on the borderline that is realism, with the supernatural and psychosis on each side of the field. This works perfectly for Alias Grace, for it's main mystery which could be one or the other, and it's tone that can so suddenly move from composed towards a very eerie and uneasy feel. This is mainly controlled by the narration. 2 sets, one that Grace gives to her evaluator Dr. Jordan, and the other she gives to us viewers, both equally untrustworthy as they come from the subject of the mystery itself. But that is what sparks our intrigue, and what carries it throughout the 6 episodes, a story with suspicions of spirits and split-personality disorder, being told by a most unreliable narrator... as we wait for a twist that might never come. There is an inevitable payoff of course, but the real attraction here while we wait is the production values and the performances.
Alias Grace's production and recreation of the 'New World' in the mid-19th century is precise to a tee. And that is a benefit, because Alias Grace is also a series that gives a genuine look into what living an average life in this era was like. It puts all the mundane jobs Grace has to do as a servant on display; sewing thick blankets with mere needle and thread, handwashing heaps of laund
