Hello all!
I'm Kim Song, a Singaporean freelance editorial cartoonist since 1984. My work has been published in Lianhe Zaobao along with other international publications like The New York Times, Newsweek, International Herald Tribune, Asahi Shimbun, Yazhou Zhoukan and others. I have also had one-man cartoon exhibitions both locally and overseas, along with seminars in overseas conferences including the World Economic Forum.
Not many people know that I first started out in the arts industry by illustrating books and magazines along with designing holiday greeting cards with a local flavour before moving on to editorial cartoons. I think it is fair to say that there are many misconceptions about what an editorial cartoonist does. Unlike a gag cartoonist which emphasizes on entertainment, an editorial cartoonist has a view to express and point out the irony in current affair issues. Through my work, I have always sought to offer readers a fresh perspective by condensing complicated news nuances to a basic essence of graphics and ideas. In addition, I strongly believe that cartoons also have a positive function in society by creating awareness of social issues and reflecting the mood and concerns of the public.
