A list of puns related to "Dunlop valve"
As in when I pump the tires, it has a presta to shrader adaptor on the valve. Does this affect accuracy?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
So I got a bike a year ago that due to some health reasons I stopped riding in November. On the tail end of this I was having issues with tube replacement β my back tube had blown and nothing I replaced it with would work for more than two weeks or so, which very swiftly eroded my confidence in being able to go out and ride.
Now that Iβm feeling better Iβm looking to get out cycling again, and with a bit more research and learning more about different tubes I think Iβve figured out that itβs because the bicycle wheel is made to accept a Dunlop valve and Iβve only ever been forcing Schraders into it.
Paraphrasing a website that helped to educate me, βthe Dunlop/Woods valve is extremely rare, only seen in the Netherlands and Asia [yep, the bicycle is from a Dutch manufacturer!], so we wonβt discuss it here,β and Iβm finding that this means that searching βDunlopβ on a few of the major online retailersβ websites has turned up no results.
How fucked am I? Where can I get the supplies I need? Iβm looking for 28 x 2.00 tubes and live in Canberra.
βWhy did you buy a bike with Dunlop valves?β β because it was my first time buying a bicycle so I didnβt know what to look for, I had basically no money but needed it for commuting, and it was on sale for a steal!
I just received a new bike and it already has tubes with Dunlop valves inserted in tires. I am not familiar with this kind of valve as i have only used Presta valves, of which i have a bunch laying around and wanted to know if when the Dunlop ones get punctures can i replace them with Presta ones. I am aware that the dunlop valve is a bit thicker then the Presta one.
I live in Korea and had to stop at a bike shop to get a new 20 inch tube for my commuter bike. He sold me a tube that has a Dunlop valve. I had no idea these even existed until I couldnβt figure out how to use it.
I assumed it was like a presta so I loosened the valve and began pumping....to no avail. It was only after stopping by a daiso (general store) that I saw a package the said βDunlopβ and it was replacement valves. Then it dawned on me that this was the valve on my tube.
Anyway I got that sorted but how the eff can you measure tire pressure? I read this great post from the sub here and I agree that it does seem that the mechanics of how the valve works makes it impossible to get a pressure reading.
However, I know that all the Dutch cyclists out there arenβt just filling up and donβt know what pressure theyβre riding on. Whatβs the secret?
I'm currently trying to care for some of the bikes of people I know. The issue I'm currently having is that one of them is using Dunlop/Woods valves and the pumps I own mainly work with Schrader and Presta valves. One of the pumps kind of works to get some air into those tyres. The problem is that I'm not able to get a good reading on the actual pressure. Sure I can just pump enough for it to be OK but I'd like to be more accurate and using a standing pump while at the same time holding the head in place on the tyre because it would slip otherwise is really, really uncomfortable.
So the question is whenever I should try to find some kind of adapter for the pump(s), favorably one to fit the Lezyne ABS2 head (my most comfortable and probably best quality pump has one), a completely new pump that just (also) supports Dunlop valves (probably a cheap one) or whenever I should change the tubes on the "offending" bikes to get either Presta or Scharder valves. What would your opinion be? I do get the feeling that Dunlop valves are kind of outdated, am I right about that? It does look like they're on all the department store bikes but that's probably because they have such a simple design?
I guess I'm mostly wondering whenever it's a good idea to keep the Dunlop valves.
thanks
The bike has been indoors for a few months unused and last time I inflated the tyres there wasn't any problem.
Yesterday I inflated the tyres as I was preparing the bike and today one of the tyres had deflated. Now when I try to inflate it the valve stem is leaking air at the base.
Any ideas?
I bought a wheel at a local bicycle recycler and it appears that it is set up for a dunlop valve. Will a Presta or Shrader valve fit in the hole for the Dunlop valve or do I need to find a drill?
I picked this bike up over the summer for like 5 dollars on an impulse buy, it's a 70s Velo Schauff, owner said he'd riddden it maybe 30 kilometers before hanging it up.
It's pretty nice (though definitely not made with the nicest steel), has fenders, a rack, lights w/ dynamo, Sachs-Huret components, suicide levers and the hardest saddle i've ever seen.
It also uses Dunlop valve tubulars, which is causing a bit of a problem because I can't fucking find them anywhere and i don't feel like riding on (or letting anyone else ride on) 35-year old tires.
Is there anywhere at all i can find these things that ships internationally?
I have a guitar student who was interested in getting into pedals for the first time, and asked me lots of questions about it. After spending most of a lesson just answering, I figured it'd be easier to write him an overview.
My whole band helped out with effects, pedal examples and musical samples of where they can be heard. My student's a big fan of Metallica, Green Day and Nirvana, so the examples I picked lean in that direction.
This is what I wrote him:
There are a few broad categories of effects. Drive pedals are generally to do with your core tone, such as giving you a great distortion sound or boosting it so your solos can be heard better. Modulation pedals, like chorus or tremolo, make constant cycling patterns in your sound, to create more interesting textures, especially when playing without distortion. Echo pedals add space to your tone, making the whole thing sound bigger. Dynamics pedals typically fix problems, like getting rid of hum or stopping your loudest notes from damaging your speakers. And admin pedals make sure the little details are in order, like splitting the signal where necessary or keeping you in tune.
Here Iβve separated them out into sections:
Drives
EQs
Dynamics
Modulations
Pitch Shifters
Echoes
Admins
Drive Effects
Drives add more gain to your signal, like a second amplifier before your main one. These fall under four categories, based on how much they alter your sound:
Is there a reason a presta valve is better? I've always had problems with these. When I worked in a shop people would constantly bring bent presta valves and when I tried to straighten them back it would just break off or bend the rod that it is attached to it which would cause it to not screw back all the way in and when you put a valve cap on it would push the valve and slowly leak air.
That being said, i've never had any issues on Schrader apart from the valve itself coming loose sometimes (very rarely) which is an easy fix with the valve tool. So why is Presta more preffered? Why do everyone use that nowadays when Schrader valves seem to be much stronger? Is there something i'm missing?
I personally do not buy presta tubes and valves anymore. Especially when you use a hand pump you'll 90% the time end up bending the valve no matter how careful you are with the pump (maybe there is better pumps that do not bend the valve but I have tried bunch of known good pumps and they all bend it, doesn't bend when using a floor pump tho because you are not constantly pushing back and forth on the valve.
Would love other mechanics opinion on this
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Could use some advice on pricing. I'm looking to sell my 97 in the PHX area but seems like most I've seen are way worse or way nicer that this one so not too sure what pricing looks like for one in this condition. Will definitely have to take better pictures but otherwise let me know what you think!

... keep reading on reddit β‘Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

This thread text will contain a list of FAQs and tips/ tricks useful to any new or perspective buyer of a WRX STi. Current owners, PLEASE feel free to post some tricks, tips, or experiences you feel relevant below. Eventually, I will gather together materials for a /r/WRXSTi wiki. I will be adding information to this thread as I can. I should say upfront that this is to be taken as a guide. The intention is to display objective information that on the whole does not come from my personal knowledge, but rather what I have found to be reliable, trustworthy, and consistent information presented to me by various dealers, mechanic/ performance shops, internet forums, online groups, and real world experience. REGARDING WARRANTIES you must consult your local provider of said warranty service, this varies wildly from place to place be it law or just how that dealer chooses to work, and I cannot promise for any one single point or idea what will be considered- YMMV
We get a lot of potential buyers and posts asking questions such as "how does this look" and "what should I be looking for?" To limit the impact of these questions that do not pertain to the majority of owners, we will be directing all such inquiries to this stickied thread. As such, all questions or inquiries of new and perspective owners will only be allowed here, versus top-level of this forum. To some, this may seem less than ideal, however information on these cars is PLENTIFUL, almost everything has been said or done before and video'd up twice for every year and model of the STi. A quick and basic Google search will likely reveal all you could hope to know about any problem, as such I highly recommend you start there.

This morning, my 4 year old daughter.
Daughter: I'm hungry
Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.
Thank you all for listening.
There hasn't been a post all year!
Why
Is it impossible?? I have a Dahon bike with a dunlop valve and want to know how I can check the tire pressure? Thanks!
When I got home, they were still there.
