X.509 compliant PKI Digital Certificate for TX Online Notary

Hoping this is the right sub!!! (Please please please.) I’m looking for a Digital Certificate that meets the requirements for TX Online Notary... but the state cannot refer me to a provider.

Requirements: Issued by a third party provider Must use PKI Must be X.509 compliant When affixed to a document, must render any subsequent changes as evident

Many thanks, /Crypto!

++++++++ updated ++++++++

I did get a returned call from IdenTrust and they claim that their β€œIGC Basic Assurance” digital certificate meets the minimum requirements. What the heck. If it doesn’t work, then I’ll let AMEX go to bat for me.

Thanks, /Crypto!

TX Notary that Needs .x509 Digital Certificate and Electronic Seal

I'm a TX Notary Signing Agent looking into becoming a Remote Online Notary.

Here are the Digital Certificate requirements in TX according to the Texas Secretary of State website

  • Must use public key infrastructure (PKI) technology
  • Must be X.509 compliant
  • Must include an image of your electronic signature (preferably an image that resembles your wet ink signature)

Could anybody point me to a reputable third party provider that meets TX requirements?

I'm also wondering about how to obtain an electronic seal. Here are the requirements according to the Website:

An electronic seal that meets the following requirements:

  • The seal must contain the following information:
    • The words "Notary Public, State of Texas" around a star of five points;
    • The notary public's name;
    • The notary public's identifying number; and
    • The date the notary public's commission expires (please note that your online notary public commission will expire on the same date as your traditional notary public commission).
  • The seal may be a circular form not more than two inches in diameter or a rectangular form not more than one inch in width and 2-1/2 inches in length.Β The seal must have a serrated or milled edge border.

Can I make it myself in photoshop using my existing stamp? Or do I need to purchase from third party, like the Digital Certificate?

Thanks all!

How Blockchain Technology Can Be Used For Digital Notary Services

Blockchain use cases continue to be expanded well beyond cryptocurrency and fintech. Crypto Public Notary - Free Bitcoin Service. Store Cryptographic Proof of Existence of digital documents in the Block Chain. Digital Document Provenance.

Site: Crypto Public Notary

With the recent OKCoin/Roger Ver contract issues I decided to try and tackle the problem of digital document provenance.

What it is:

Digital Document Provenance is the ability to prove a document existed at a specific point in time. Using an address derived from the cryptographic hash of a digital file, any Bitcoin transaction to that address serves as a public timestamp.

Example: You and I draft a contract. We add our GPG signatures to the document and obtain the SHA256 hash of the file. Using that hash as a Bitcoin private key we can derive a public key and, therefore, an address. If a single bit in the file changes, so does the Bitcoin address.

One, or both, of us send a dust transaction to that address, forever recording it in the block chain. Anyone is able to verify that document is linked to that address, and therefore it existed at that point in time. Simply take the SHA256 hash of the file and generate the matching public key/address.

How it works:

Choose any digital file. Our service takes the SHA256 hash of the file and uses that value as a Bitcoin private key. Effectively, the file is acts like a pass phrase.

Next, we provide you the Bitcoin address for that key pair and a WIF private key.

Then, you send a small amount of bitcoin to the address. The transaction in the block chain serves as a timestamp and (optionally) you sweep the private key, reclaiming your bitcoin.

Finally, the service runs completely in the browser. You retain full ownership of your digital documents.

This service will remain free, forever. Down the round I may expand into additional services

TLDR: We calculate a hash of your file. We use that to seed a Bitcoin keypair/address. You send some dust to address. That transaction/address serves as proof of existence for that document at the time stamp recorded on the block chain.

I just received a job offer after applying and I need to present documents to a notary, but here's the catch, the notary has to fill the form online, so I'm guessing on my laptop. I contacted Wells Fargo and UPS and they only do printed forms. I cannot print out the online form because its a dropbox, "press Next" type thing. Does anyone here know a nptary nearby VCU campus that can do digital forms?

AOC - sent in notarial birth documentation, USCIS made a digital copy & returned original, now USCIS says they never got it

In October, my wife (Chinese national applying for green card adjustment of status) sent in her I-485 packet with all supporting evidence. Because China only started issuing birth certificates in 1996, and my wife was born several years before that, her parents in China went to a notary and got a notarial certificate from a notary public, along with an English translation. Along with that, she sent a letter explaining that China did not issue birth certificates before 1996, and so that is why we were submitting a notarial certificate, in accordance with US government guidelines.

In November, USCIS sent the notarial certificate back to us, along with a letter saying "Your entire filing package, including supporting documentation, has been digitized and is electronically stored. USCIS is returning to you documentation submitted which has been classified as hard to replace."

Now, in January, we received a pink "Request for Evidence (Form I-485)" saying that we have to submit the notarial certificate of birth. This is the document we already submitted, and which USCIS claims to have digitized and sent back to us because the original is "hard to replace".

What happened here? What are we supposed to do? Send the same document back to them all over again?

It currently costs over $1500 to register a title deed with a notary. Blockchain tech will soon drive that cost down to a few dollars.

Where I am from, young people can't buy a home. The prices are too high, and the various fees associated with buying real estate is a hurdle. Just to register a title deed with a notary, it can cost over $1500!

I think that blockchain technology has the power to eliminate entirely the need for a notary, and that will help younger generation to be home owners.

Think about it. The notary is getting paid essentially for acting as a middlemen between the buyer and the seller. The notary will double check who is the real owner of the house, will keep the money from the buyer in an escrow account, and will register the transaction to a central authority. Here's the big deal : all those things can be performed by a smart contract! All we need to do is turn the mortgage into an NFT, mint it on a L2 on the Ethereum blockchain, and voilΓ , we saved thousands of dollars.

Now, I know it's not as simple as that. The tech works just fine, but we would need a serious cultural shift toward digital assets for this kind of project to take off. But the efforts already begun : LoanSnap launched Baconcoin last month, a token backed by US home loans. It's not exactly what I'm talking about, but it sure is a step in the right direction.

If this works well, eventually, everyone will be able to provide liquidity on the mortgage market... and we won't ever need to pay another notary ever again. Another reason to be bullish on crypto and blockcchain tech in general!

What would've happened if you invested $2 into all the listings ranked 250 to 750 on CoinMarketCap on the 1st of January 2019? I checked.

Hi

Inspired by another redditor (CragBrawz) on another post on this sub, I wrote a script that scraped all the listings that were ranked 250 to 750 on CoinMarketCap on the 1st of January 2019 and checked what an initial investment of $2 back then would be worth today.

Introduction

  1. I took all the data from the CoinMarketCap API
  2. Out of 500 listings, 146 listings are now untracked by CoinMarketCap, which most likely means they are dead. So I simply assumed we lost the $2 on all those listings ($292)
  3. If the data was not available, it is displayed by "n/a"
  4. Take the information provided here with caution. Even though the data is straight from CoinMarketCap, I'm not so sure how frequently they clean up their scam listings.

Some highlights

  1. The entire initial investment of $1000 back then would be worth $9’267 today.Pretty good, but still not enough for that lambo.Calculation: Current worth of all bought listings - total investment ($1000) - untracked (dead) listings ($292)
  2. Out of 354 tracked listings, 204 turned negative.
  3. 99 listings had an increase of at least 100%
  4. 39 listings had an increase of at least 1000%
  5. Nearly 50% of our gain is from Humanscrape (I have no idea what humanscrape is, but it does seem to be more or less legit)
  6. Out of 354 tracked listings, only 24 listings have a higher CMC rank today than in 2019.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

What does it exactly mean for Cardano to be a platform?

Cardano has entered the Goguen era in 2021 with it becoming a smart contracts platform. This brings many benefits and the potential is tremendous, but it requires some caution from users. Let’s explain what the platform is and what it means for users.

TLDR:

  • A platform is a kind of environment in which a program can be executed. You can use smart contracts on a Cardano platform.
  • Smart contract apps are created by third-party developers and their intentions may not always be honest.
  • Cardano may be the most secure platform in the world, but that doesn’t mean it will automatically apply to third-party applications.
  • The IOG team takes no responsibility for third-party applications. IOG is only responsible for the Cardano platform. Everyone in the world is free to decide how to use it.
  • Cardano will have an appStore and certification program. Users will have more confidence that they are using quality and secure apps.
  • It doesn’t matter if we know the authors of applications or not, because more important is open and freely accessible source code that anyone can look at and verify its correctness.
  • Do we need platforms? Let’s ask a better question. What we want or can improve in our society through decentralization. Then we can ask how to achieve that.
  • It does not make sense to own the value via a blockchain network and then, the moment you need to use it in the real world, lose this absolutely crucial advantage and entrust the coins to a third party that enables fast payments or other financial services.
  • A rich ecosystem has many advantages. First and foremost is the large network effect. The more options a platform has, the more it will be used.

What is a platform

We guess you already know well what is a platform but maybe you are not aware of it. Let us explain. To put it simply, a platform is a kind of environment in which a program can be executed. If you read this text you have a computer with your favorite operating system. It does not matter whether it is a Samsung cellphone with Android OS or a laptop with Windows OS. You can download an arbitrary application from the Internet and run it. It can be said that you can extend the possibilities of your computer and thus you have access to more functionalities. For example, you can download a movie and use a player to watch it. You can also chat with your friends, or use internet banking. You basically decide about functionalities you want to have on your computer.

Every program, or

General-purpose NFTs could be DRM done right: flexible contracts for digital goods

In this post, I will speculate on possible uses for what GameStop seems to be on the verge of launching: a marketplace for general-purpose NFTs that can be associated with all sorts of digital goods, from images, to music, to whole video games. I will discuss what incentives there could be for creators, players and collectors to use such a marketplace.

Many ideas presented in this post have been discussed before and in other forums, but this is my way of organising my ideas and spark discussion. By no means do I believe to be an expert in the topics presented here, and I post to have these ideas challenged and discussed.

I will have a particular focus on video games as my primary point of interest for this discussion, partly because I think they stand to benefit most from this marketplace, partly because the post would be way too long if I looked at use cases with every digital good there is, and partly because most types of digital goods could be traded in ways I described for video games in sections 1 and 2 of the following.

This also assumes you have a basic understanding of what an NFT is, but if not, in one sentence: an NFT is a tradeable, unfakeable, unique digital token, making it ideal for use as a digital contract representing a single item.

0. Introduction: The free flow of information and the toughening of DRM

DRM has been around for a while in video games. Early examples of DRM came in the form of CD-keys that only allowed players to install a game if they entered the correct alphanumeric key, usually printed on a physical item that came with the original box. With most gamers having very little Internet connectivity, the key was only checked locally, so early implementations were very crude, with keys being reusable indefinitely on various computers. Some keys even worked with any copy of the game (the key 0123... could be used to install any CD copy of StarCraft on any computer, for example).

With Internet usage becoming more widespread and connection speeds increasing in the 2000s, easily defeated implementations of DRM were no longer sufficient for many developers. The rise of the BitTorrent protocol and various P2P sharing programs meant that copies of games could be widely distributed by anyone, with little companies could do to control access to their games. This need for access control gave birth to what we commonly think of when we think of "DRM": games that only work on certain platforms and require authentication with a

I have a sister in the military, we inherited property together with another family member who wants to no longer be a co-owner (so there is three of us and one family member wants to get out) therefore I am in the process of refinancing the home solely to purchase the other family member out. Lender has expressed that at the end of closing they will need my sister’s physical signature on the title and the deed

In preparation for closing I have asked my sister to get me JAG contact info or a mailing address, or even a superiors name so that I can mail the documents for a wet signature. My sister cant/will not tell me where she is located, and keeps telling me that she has no contact with legal personnel, etc. I do not want to be insensitive bc I am not sure the nature of the deployment, but she has to meet me halfway or give me some direction bc she is a part of this inheritance. What can I do? Please help!

PS-I have inquired about limited Power of attorney but again that still requires a signature, attorney and my sister just isn’t helping me help her.

I did the Blockchain Developer Nanodegree so you (don't) have to

I will have a particular focus on video games as my primary point of interest for this discussion, partly because I think they stand to benefit most from this marketplace, partly because the post would be way too long if I looked at use cases with every digital good there is, and partly because most types of digital goods could be traded in ways I described for video games in sections 1 and 2 of the following.

This also assumes you have a basic understanding of what an NFT is, but if not, in one sentence: an NFT is a tradeable, unfakeable, unique digital token, making it ideal for use as a digital contract representing a single item.
