I’m about 50 days out from my wedding- now dress-less. I bought my dress from David’s back in January. I knew I wanted something simple and I’d prefer to budget the dress low so more money could be used elsewhere, so I figured David’s would do. And it did- I found a dress I liked, seemed flattering on my figure, and SUPER budget friendly. I went for alterations today and tried on my purchased dress for the first time and it was a disaster. Like a crying, hopeless, panic-calling my mom and fiancé disaster. I was encouraged to purchase a size 10, despite being a street size 4/6. Ok fine- bridal sizes are notoriously weird. The size 10 was to accommodate my somewhat wider hips, and everything could be altered down so I was told. Except I was truly swimming in a size 10. My seamstress tells me 6 inches needs to come in off the bust, 1.5 for each circumference of my upper arms (long sleeve dress), and a lot of awkward bunching all throughout the torso. I could feel extra inches of what was supposed to be a form fitting dress gathering at my waist. However, the seamstress told me she would NOT be able to do anything for the waist because of the vertical seams on the dress, and that they would end up in a horrible zigzag if I wanted it form fitting. So my fit and flare, tight sleeve dress now fit me no better than your average long sleeve t shirt. I was in a complete shock. Seamstress was at a loss for how to alter it without ruining the integrity of the dress because it was just that big on me. Mind you, I have not lost weight since the time I bought it. I tried on a size 6 that I thought fit well, but the saleswoman said my measurements had to be a 10. She said the sample dresses get too stretched out to be a reflection of their real size anyway. Further research has told me the size way up tactic is just for extra $$$ for their alterations department. I have no hope for a refund, and am lucky enough BHLDN can get me in tomorrow and rush a dress. Please procede with caution when it comes to David’s, unless you enjoy potentially burning a few hundred dollars.
Mind you in my wedding planning journey, our first venue cancelled on us, my bachelorette party was a disaster, and I now have 7 weeks to find a dress. It has been so terribly discouraging.
I know the answer is both. But the instant block shedders annoy me way more.
As someone formerly with an abusive partner, I wonder if this is a plausible theory. I think David loves isolating and torturing Jenelle more than he loves the money that would have come from any of her business deals. SewSew only has like 2k IG followers? So she would have made, what, a couple thousand dollars at the most?
Abusers’ means have no limits. Their egos are all that matter. He probably hates her being successful, looking cute on an ad campaign, getting her confidence up, and making money he can’t control. New opportunities mean potential business travel, Jenelle having fun, and being more popular than him. Maybe making friends and realizing she could leave him.
He could easily have created a fake email or two and complained to the company. I honestly can’t believe any TM fans would care enough to have ruined this for her. Even if they hate her.
