Clíodhna Puns

Can anyone shed some light on the cultural significance of Clíodhna, I know she is the goddess of the sea, beauty, and love and that she is the queen of banshees, but I would like to have some more knowledge of what things like the sea and beauty culturally means, can anyone share some insight?

The ancient Celts left us few sources about their mythology and there are many of their gods that we know almost nothing about. Irish (especially Irish) and Welsh manuscripts from the early Middle Ages are notable exceptions, but the myths they preserve are adulterated by Christianity and may not have much in common with those already forgotten on the continent.

For all the above, this list focuses especially on the Irish gods, although in some of these cases I mention Gallic gods that perhaps were their continental counterparts, or at least they are too similar:

• The Dagda: He was an Irish god of fertility and wisdom. A king-druid of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the main gods of Ireland. He had a truncheon that, despite having a lethal end, could revive the dead with its handle; a harp (Uaithne) that could control the seasons, which was stolen by the Fomorians on one occasion, and a bottomless cauldron capable of providing infinite food. He was the husband of the Morrigan and the father of children like Aengus and Brigit. He died from a wound sustained in the second battle of the Magh Tuiredh. Dagda was very similar to Sucellus, the Gallic god of agriculture and wine, who used to be depicted with a hammer and pot and whose consort, Nantosuelta, was similar to Morrigan.

• Lugh: He was one of the few gods worshiped in the entire Celtic world (Gaul, Iberia, Britain, Ireland...). And he was also very multifaceted, being associated with warfare, crafts and magic. In Irish mythology, he was one of the Tuatha Dé Danann, but he was also a Fomorian on his mother's side. He demonstrated his competence in all the arts after putting himself at the service of King Nuada, who later appointed him commander. Finally, in the second Battle of Magh Turedh, he killed his grandfather Balor, leader of the Fomorians. Later he was the father and protector of the hero Cú Chulainn. He also owned a flaming spear, which was one of the greatest treasures of the Tuatha Dé Danann.

• Toutatis: Sadly, the main known sources for this Gallic god are Roman, which means they are unreliable. He may have been a protector of the tribal order as well as a warrior, but it is not certain. According to a certain author, Toutatis, along with Taranis and Esus, was part of a trinity that was at the head of their pantheon. So I've been interested in Irish mythology for a long time and quite recently got into witchcraft. I have some Irish ancestry (my biological father is from there) and feel pretty drawn to cliodhna. As soon as I started to seriously research deities and witchcraft in general I started to hear and see and dream of wrens constantly. Which seems to be one of her birds. I started trying to open myself during meditation and yesterday I had a very vivid dream involving lots of water and me screaming so loudly that the people around me started bleeding from their ears and fainting. Am I overinterpreting in thinking it might be her? I just need some advice on how to proceed in general, this is all pretty new to me.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
