A list of puns related to "Cloaca Maxima"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloaca_Maxima
I've got a few questions about this event that Pliny (chap 36, sect 24) seems to treat as an aside. Why was this job uniquely horrible that it prompted mass suicide? Was it common for jobs like this, especially early in Roman history, to be conducted by the citizens instead of slaves? Was defiling a corpse by crucifying it really such an awful fate for a Roman? Or is this entire story concocted out of thin air in order to smear the memory of the king at the time, Tarquinius Priscus, and to make him seem more tyrannical?
Hello everyone,
I've been meaning to do some research on the Cloaca Maxima - but I haven't been able to find any resources that I feel I can trust. Anyone got any information for me that you would like to share?
The Cloaca Maxima is a Roman sewer system that was built in the 6th century BCE. It is still functional today for draining rainwater from the city. My question is how much would the estimated cost have been when it was built and how does that cost translate today with inflation? I cannot find anything on this topic online so I'm sorry if this is too specific :/
Edit: Also just realized my title reads the "greatest sewer" sewer system. Sorry!
I finished Ys IX: Monstrum Nox last night and after sleeping on it, decided to make this "review" to get others' opinions and vent my frustrations. Tbh, of all the Ys games I've played, the one I liked the most was LoD, followed by 7, and then 9 tied with Celceta. Allow me to elaborate,
Gameplay: It was amazing as always, I never got tired of the combat and the party members styles were varied enough to keep encounters interesting throughout the game. Not to mention the enemy designs and attack patterns were better and varied too. To top it all off the verticality added in the game kept the exploration fresh, even if it was within a very limited area. If I had to criticize something about gameplay and combat, I'd say that this game on hard was easier than LoD on normal. Another point of criticism comes from late in the game when surrounded by lots of enemies, it becomes harder to tell what is going on with all the particle effects and magic attacks flying around. It also doesn't help that skills are even more spammable with auto-regenerating SP.
Music: Throughout my journey with Ys games I've found the music to be incredible, which is the case for this game as well. A few of my favorite tracks were Marionette, Marionette, Cloaca Maxima, and the final dungeon OST.
Bosses: I kept this section separate from gameplay because I have specific complaints about certain bosses. While the boss designs did not disappoint the first two bosses were extremely similar, but I guess that was to make players better acquainted with the combat systems. It also did not help that the final boss (not the egg) is a gimmick boss which immediately sours the awesome boss fight before it. The feeling is very similar to the disappointing last boss of Celceta.
Characters: Ys always succeeds in making relatable and enjoyable characters, IX is not exception. Design wise, I liked the party members' normal and monstrum versions. All of them were interesting and had unique problems which Adol and party tackled. The dandelion crew, especially Parks, Chante, and Iris were a joy to interact with. Oddly enough, I did not feel like there was any romantic sub-plot here which was great since I'm team Dana forever (in my heart!).
Story: Here lies the bulk of my gripes with his game, so this section will be a little more fleshed out,

It's just a suggestion, though I want an Assassin's Creed game set in the Roman Empire, 217-330 AD.
What would I like to see in this game?
-I want to see Rome in all its splendor and ancient glory, with all the monuments built. The fact that I want it to be set in the third century is because then was built the Baths of Caracalla, plus the Colosseum, the Parthenon, the Baths of Diocletian, Domus Aurea, Basilica of Maxentius, Cloaca Maxima, Circus Maximus, Mausoleum of Augustus and Trajan's Market .....and Colossus of Nero.
-I want it to happen especially between the 3rd and 4th century because then the Roman Empire went through a serious crisis.
-the game could begin with the assassination of Caracalla, a member of the Order of the Ancients, by a praetorian who could be a member of the Order of Assassins. The story will include civil wars, peasant rebellions, political instability, plagues, debasement of currency, and economic depression, connections with Germanic mercenaries and the creation of federations.
-the culmination will be the division of the empire into the Gallic Empire, the Palmyrene Empire the Italian Empire proper.
-the main story will end with the restoration of the empire and the assassination of Aurelian
-the story could be extended with a DLC about Constantine the Great and the officialization of Christianity
-the game could include a family of assassins, with mechanics inspired by the Watch Dogs Legion in which you recruit assassins. Assassins can be killed, they can be promoted, they fall in love, make kids, create families, construct their house, can grow old , and die. Yes, it will be difficult to attach to a particular character. But I liked the Watch Dogs Legion recruitment system and I would like to see it implemented in an Assassin's Creed. The game takes place over a period of 100 years, so we could have many characters to attach to. We could recruit assassins from all social classes.
-I would like to explore all the provinces of the Roman Empire: Rome and other large cities in the Italian peninsula , Gallia (France + Belgium), Hispania (Spain and Portugal), Raetia Noricum (Switzerland ), Thrace (Bulgaria), Asia Minor (Turkey), Syria and Judea, Africa Proconsularis, Mauretania (Tunisia and Morocco), Dacia (Romania), Dalmatia (Serbia), Mesopotamia (Iraq), Armenia, Egypt with all regions from Assassin's Creed Origins, Greece and Macedonia with all the city-states and regions from the Assassin's Creed Ody
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies ๐
It really does, I swear!
Theyโre on standbi
Pilot on me!!
Nothing, he was gladiator.
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
What did 0 say to 8 ?
" Nice Belt "
So What did 3 say to 8 ?
" Hey, you two stop making out "
I finished this great game a few days ago and just wanted to talk about the music. YS IX's OST has a lot of controversy. Regardless in my opinion the music is overall pretty good. Guess I'll start with my favorite song. Glessing Way is my pick. The song is arranged so well that it sounds amazing. Not really music savvy, so it is hard for me to describe it eloquently. Not only does it sound great but it is one of the longer tracks. My runner up would be Cloaca Maxima. This song made the YS IX demo so much better. I'm curious what your favorite is.
I won't be doing that today!
