A list of puns related to "Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler incident"
It is a classical music piece which was dedicated to the Brown/Stigler incident. The music even had parts where they replicated machine gun fire and other things to represent the incident. Anybody know the name? Thanks!
I would love to hear this story told by Mr Ballen. It inspired a song by the band Sabaton called "no bullets fly". Its a story of care and humanity amidst some of the most hostile times in history.
During WW2, A USAF B-17F pilot had their aircraft severely damaged in a bombing run over Germany. A German pilot, Stigler, who was already an ace - was sent up to destroy what had remained of the bomber. Once Stigler had caught up to the bomber, he saw how terribly damaged the plane was and likened it to shooting someone in a parachute. He then did the unthinkable.
Forgoing any opportunity to receive military recognition for shooting down another bomber, he flew closely to the bomber so that it wouldn't be targeted by the AA guns that had lined the German coast and escorted the bomber to safety.
Some 50 years later, the two pilots had an opportunity to meet and became close friends.
There are many more details to this story and think it's one of the most underrated and unknown stories from WW2. I did a search and haven't seen it posted so wanted to throw it out to Mr Ballen in hopes that he can do the story justice.

This is a story I've read a few times and have even bought the book, "A Higher Call"
I always thought this would be a good opportunity for Gaijin to make money, because this would give the US players a premium B17 and the German players would get a premium Bf 109 G-6.
I personally think it'd be a cool nod to a unique war time story and it'd certainly be better received over blueprint planes.
Stigler was an ace too, so it's not too out there for them to do it.
