So I received unemployment as self-employed last march until june when all my work dried up during the first stages of lockdowns. However, work quickly picked back up by July and I've closed my claim via saying I've found work again on my EDD claims (or so I've thought - at least, this is what the EDD website says to do!).
Fast forward to now, and I receive a "Notice of Determination" letter saying I failed to verify my identity (was never notified of this, and I definitely verified my ID through ID.me when I was collecting last march-june).
I'd ignore this normally since I DO NOT currently collect unemployment (and haven't since june) but the issue is that this letter says "claims beginning March 29th", which is during my original claim period. Is there any risk of getting my unemployment benefits clawed back if I don't bother with the appeal??
It's especially frustrating because it says if I appeal I have to appear in an appeals court (during covid!!..) which sounds absolutely ridiculous to me, and is the kind of time commitment I simply do not have at the moment.
I tried calling to get my questions answered but it appears the phone lines are down and according to reddit+google searches, the numbers pretty much never work at all.
I've already stopped my benefits for most of a year, I'm NOT using EDD at all. Why am I getting this letter? Can I ignore this safely (and get my benefits stopped.... which is what I want and I thought I had already done this months ago!), or will I get a massive bill in the mail if I don't bother going to appeals court?
