I tried watching #blackaf and within the the first 5 mins thereβs characters saying how much they hate white people. If the races were the other way round thereβd be an outcry. I donβt get it and I donβt mean to offend anyone but I canβt understand why itβs only acceptable to trash talk white people in todayβs culture?
Edit: apparently you canβt be racist to white people π lol. Children, saying that is literally being racist, we have no hope

The premise is Kenya Barris and Rashida Jones are well-to-do parents of 6 kids (3 girls, 3 boys) in Los Angeles. Kenya's character is a Hollywood producer, and Rashida's character is a lawyer-turned-SAHM. They are wealthy, not the greatest parents, and constantly in consideration of how their "Blackness" in appearance and culture is perceived by White people.
I watched 4 episodes, in which I found some genuinely funny moments. The show does a good job covering very timely topics, e.g. what's a parent to do when they catch their 12 year old recording a twerking video for TikTok.
I liked it well enough. It gets a little one-note (particularly Kenya's constant and annoying assholeishness) and heavy-handed at times, but the laughs-per-minute ratio is good enough to keep me entertained during quarantine.
4/5 stars, it's worth checking out but it may not be the right show for you
Saw the trailer for it the other day and while I don't plan on watching it, I'm curious to know what you guys think of the show.
I used to like Blackish but now it feels like the writers are trying too hard to show how rich and "better than you" the Johnsons are. I don't know, they just feel so unrelatable now, and BlackAF seems to heighten the elitism to the point where I feel like only upper middle class to rich white and black people will ever really get anything out of it. It's funny because I used to watch The Royals which is literally about a rich 'AF' royal family and never got such tacky, nouveau riche vibes before.
I know Barris has said that the show's based on his life, but I feel like he's living out the fantasy of being married to Rashida Jones and being rich enough to stunt on white people with his perfect beige black family through the guise of the show cuz bruh can't act to save his life and looks dead inside.
Even though the reception wasn't very good, I decided to give blackaf a shot, namely because of how much I love Rashida Jones. But even she couldn't save this trainwreck of a sitcom. Aside from a few of her one-liners, there is absolutely nothing funny about this.
Maybe Kenya Barris should stick to what he's good at (writing and producing) and leave the acting up to actual actors.
##blackAF
Premise: The family comedy loosely based on the life of creator Kenya Barris, with Barris playing a fictionalized version of himself and Rashida Jones as his wife Joya, who raise six children together.

I should be working right now, but the way my productivity level is set up right now is trash, so I thought I'd crank out this review of my first impression of this bag.
Truth be told, I'd rather be window shopping on WeChat's most dangerous TS Moments, RepLadiesBST, RepTimeBST and spending my imaginary Sugar Daddy's money on more shoes, bags, jewelry and watches. However, I'm old, married and come with 2 little #brokeAF best friends a.k.a children that love watching the SavageRemix dances on tiktok.
Well, i'm here to give you what you need...without further ado, grab your wallets, open up your chat window on Wechat to your favorite seller and get ready to order this bag or others that suit your bougie fancy ass so we can all be about that life!

Show includes fits from fog, fog X nike, off white etc...
Or is that just how everyone dresses in LA
βͺI really miss black shows that just WERE black. Not performative for trying to prove their blackness. Just a regular sitcom that happened to have a majority black cast. β¬
Also are there black sitcoms out rn that ARENT produced by Kenya Barris?
I watched the pilot and in the first five minutes i was laughing out loud. Ended up watching most of it.... its a mix of modern family, the entrouge, and a little bit of Curb yer enthusiasm.
I was loving all the episodes as i watched them and then i googled the show to see the reviews and this show is getting sooo much hate from the critics.
Most of the critics are like this is uninspired, copy of larry davids show. I dont get it... Shows funny, a easy to watch sitcom that dosent have to sensor its language.
I hope you guys watch it because i'd love a second a season.
If blackish is based off kenya barris' life and bow is this wife, how is blackaf also based off his life yet he's married to joya who in episodes of mixedish they show Santi growing up to be? It's confusing to me but seems like he's married to bow in one version and her younger sister Santi in another?
If didn't know, BlackAF is a show on Netflix that casts the director of the show, Kenya Barris as himself. Kenya is the writer of Black-ish and other shows. The show itself isn't that bad, but Kenya Barris as himself is insufferable.
The problem is that he's always complaining about something even if it's not a big deal. The best example is when he's frustrated about how his wife is trying to persue her career again after having kids. I understand that he wants his wife to take care of the kids but it seems very hypocritical for him to say that considering the fact that he openly says that he ignores his children. His ego is also overly enlarged. He buys this black painting and pretends that he knows what the painting means. It takes the artist himself coming to his house to convince him of the meaning of the painting. Even after that, Kenya claims that he has known the meaning of the painting this whole time. He is so narcissistic that he chooses to rent a private jet because even first class is below his standard. He does a very bad job of raising his kids. They're all in titled whiney pieces of shit. I get that he's a hightened version of Kenya Barris IRL but that isn't an excuse for him to be an unlikable character. He also manipulates his kids into going to the place where he want to vacation. I understand that he's supposed to be a shitty person but he makes the show almost unwatchable. Dre from Black-ish is a lot like him, but deep down, he has a good heart. Kenya Barris however, is an asshole through and through. I couldn't sit through another of his lengthy pessimistic speeches. It was so edgy, I legit thought I was on Tumblr.
In the end, Barris soiled an already mediocre show.
I just started this show and I swore I saw her in the background at the Lunar Butterfly festival.
Some people like it while a very vocal group seems to hate it.
Just want to hear thoughts on #blackaf
Iβm in love, itβs 10x better than blackβ’ish!
Will this be the new modern family?
Who was your favorite character?
Favorite episode?
Myke is wrong(haha), #Blackaf is brilliant. Myke doesn't like comedy so don't let his opinion sway you. It's written well. I agree w/ Myke and Nick about Kenya's actingβit isn't the best, but it improves over the season. I respect Myke for trying to give the show a chance unlike like the folks on Twitter.
I think as a collective we pay for outrage. We give retweets and likes to the most obnoxious tweets. I also believe we're in the age of identities and because of that you have everyone trying to redefine labels. Redefine gender, redefine sexuality, redefine Blackness, etc. From what I seen most people were upset that another yellow-skinned Black family is being paraded around and it seems like that's all networks look for. I personally disagree, because Blackness comes in different forms since we're not a monolith.
To discuss Na's point that the struggle of the lighter skinned Black isn't as real. If we're talking about systematically, I agree, but on a micro-level it's near the same. They may not experience certain traumas but they may experience varieties of exclusion from their own communities, which affects people psychologically.
I agree with Myke, it was sad hearing you all agree with those ignorant tweets.
So I havenβt been a huge sitcom fan most of my life, but like any red-blooded American I have my favorites. However, I have not really liked anything in the format in about five years. This show has my attention. Iβm about 5 episodes in and I have laughed out loud multiple times in every episode. Some of my all time favorites, which so far I would put #blacAF fuck in the same class as, for pure level of comedic value:
Cosby Show (sorry, but we didnβt know then) Night Court Roseanne Fresh Prince of Bel Air Curb Your Enthusiasm Martin Parks and Rec The Office 30 Rock
