A list of puns related to "Because the Night (novel)"
Of all the books I've read, I think I can only point to Daniel Abraham's The Long Price Quartet for exploring this line.
For those that don't know, "Maus" is an outstanding graphic novel written by Art Spiegelman that tells the story of his parents survival as Polish Jews during the Holocaust. The story is relayed to the author by his father directly and is told as a part of a frame narrative that also tells us about the author's strained relationship with his father.
Vladek, Art's father, starts the story by telling us about his upbringing and courtship of Art's mother (something he asks his son not to put in the book.) His story goes on to cover the length of WWII, the Holocaust and its aftermath. We see Vladek being drafted into the Polish Army right before the invasion and being interned as a POW before eventually being released. We are told of the tragic story regarding their firstborn son that perished during the Holocaust, their time in the ghetto, remaining hidden when the Germans cleared the ghetto, emerging from hiding and attempting to conceal their identities and finally their deportation to Auschwitz following their capture by the Gestapo during a sting operation where they were posing as human traffickers that would get them out of Poland.
During their time in hiding after surviving the ghetto, Vladek (who spoke German) mentions that when using public transportation he would ride in the sections reserved for the Germans rather than those reserved for the Poles. He does this out of a believe that the Poles would identify him as a Jew right away. This always struck me as odd. Especially since at that time he was hiding in plain sight ostensibly under the guise of being a ethnic Pole. Was he just being paranoid or were the two communities so different from one and other that he would've stuck out had he been in the close proximity with Poles that comes with public transportation?
To clarify, I'm not looking for alleged physical differences that the prejudiced claim exist. I think the Nazi authorities unknowingly using the likeness of a soldier with Jewish ancestry on recruiting posters pretty easily debunks that idea.
Rather, were the ethnically Polish and Jewish communities so separated from one and other at the time that blending in would be particularly difficult? Were there linguistic differences that would be obvious to those alive at the time? Obviously the Jewish community primarily spoke Yiddish, but Vladek was fluent in Polish, German, Yiddish and English at the time of the Holocaust. Something tha

But then she drew back, concern on her face. She could feel him growing cold.
Ben smiled at her.
His father was also a victim of his later on in the book. Another detail is that the protagonist is always rendered unconscious whenever there is a storm. Not 100% sure but the book title might have something to do with lightning or storms.
Edit: The protagonistβs name is Jake (I think?)
Edit 2: Solved!! The name of the book is Eye of the Storm by Robert Pobi. I couldnβt find it on google because it has an alternate title, Bloodman. Itβs a pretty good read, I suggest you all check it out.
Other than those two Iβve gone through Lucius, and the word bearers omnibus. Thanks
Done after 50k words or so. Comic stories are never over the way novels are and that's an incredible form of story telling.
There are some tracks, in particular "Wallace" that imo nail the feeling in my head Herbert gives me. Ethereal, dark, ambient, somewhat otherworldly. Gives me hope for the Dune Soundtrack!

On the 28th of March, I paid my last month's rent and gave my landlord notice that I was terminating my lease. The catch is that I had already paid last month's rent before my move in date. I had forgotten about this. Per my lease:
>This is a calendar month to month agreement and either one of us can terminate it with 30 days notice. It is recommended that notice is given on the last day of a month. Last monthβs rent pays for last whole calendar month (1st to end of month).
If it matters, I technically paid the rent before giving notice, but only because I thought it was due, and not because I had any intention of continuing my lease through May. When I asked to have my payment for April returned, my landlord denied me, claiming my lease was now through the end of May:
>This is such an unusual situation that I consulted an attorney. Because you paid me for April before giving notice, I have to do mitigation. This means that I have to advertise your room to find a tenant for May. If I find a May tenant, I am legally obligated to return your entire May rent. If I don't find a tenant, I am not legally obligated to return any of your May rent.
>
> I begin advertising your room tomorrow, April 7.Β You wait until the end of April to find out if you will get all or none of your May rent returned.Β If I do not find a tenant then you have until the end of May to move.Β If I find a tenant for May, I will pack and move your things to the 3rd and 1st floor front porches on AprilΒ 30 for you to pick up.Β You can guide me through the packing process via phone or video if you want.Β After you move I return your security deposit.
Question: Is it true that my landlord is not legally obligated to return my "May rent"?
Meanwhile, my landlord (who is also my roommate) insists that I not return to live with them or pack my things during the pandemic:
>The mayor of Boston has ordered a curfew, face masks in public parks, and distancing restrictions until May 4. I am following the authorities recommendations [...] it's not safe for you to come back into the apartment to move out April 30.
Question: Is there any legal reason I can't return home to live or pack my things during the pandemic under the new emergency regulations?
I visited my partner in NYC

just had a huuuge discussion with my husband which one is more known in Europe. For him, a Russian, the Belgian novel is popular and nobody knows the German medieval stuff. I never heard of the Belgian book and here people only know the medieval tales.
If you are not sure: in the Belgian book the Flemish fight against the Spanish army (edit: Till Eulenspiegel is in this book a prankster, but also a patriotic spy and agitator, including him being prosecuted and tortured and also actively fighting against Spain).
The German tales are just short stories about his pranks, no war whatsoever.
I know the whole game size/bloat argument. I know they want the game to feel like it is changing. But I really don't like feeling like I'm on the clock and I better hurry or I will miss out.
I know a lot of players will have zoomed right on through the season pass and title grind and won't really get this feeling. And I know that this type of stuff has been in the game forever, with things like event rewards. But it feels like the cycling content might be the majority of the content for the rest of the year. And there are a lot of players like me that will not feel like they are having a good time but instead feel pressure to do only the activities they need to do to finish on time. I know I don't have to be such a completionist, but I'm a checklist kind of player. I like marking off a list.
And the cycling content also seems to be a Return On Investment problem for Bungie. Just look at Vex Offensive Final Assault. Why would Bungie pour resources into an activity that will only be around 3 weeks? Or even a full 12 week season?
I do like the feeling of the world changing. I'm hoping the final week of Season of Undying has something interesting to set up the next season. But the constant removal of the content leads to these deadlines that make me feel like I'm playing because I have to, not because I want to.
Edit: I did not go from 0-100 in two days. Sorry that was worded weird. It took me all season. I just got 100 and the Undying title two days ago.
Edit 2: thanks for all the discussion. I know I don't need the title, but doing that checklist kind of stuff is the part of the game I like the most. I loved the record books in D1. I don't mind the grind, I like it. I just wish I could have taken it at my own pace to keep myself from getting burnt out.
Edit 3: Thank you to everyone that responded to this! I've lurked on this sub for years and only recently started making posts. This post is a little more negative than how I feel about the game as a whole. I love Destiny and appreciate Bungie for how much work they do making a game for such a huge and diverse player base. I've seen a lot of responses but I wanted to shout out the people sharing about managing their mental health while playing a live service game. These are great discussions. Thank you!
.... I am a bit underwhelmed with the way it ended. May be this graphic novel is not for me. I often felt distracted by the random page from journals (though I realize they are a big part of how the characters developed and so on), but I am really, really disappointed that I didnβt like the novel as much as I should have. No offense to anyone, just expressing my feelings. I am here for your support as fans who love the book...
It was a Monday night in London. Rain was pouring down outside, the cold, merciless wind was hooking its frozen teeth on the deserted streets of a small town in the south west of the capital, holding on to the last chilly days of early March. Thunder and rain were working together as the gloomy duet extinguishing the sound of any human life in the surroundings, as if to emphasise on the drama that was about to unravel that night.
But for me, it was all silence. Silence before the battle. Tonight was the night. The final game for a title in the chaotic division 1. I had been here before. Many times. I've rehearsed these gestures, profiled and performed this routine a hundred times. But that night was different. Something was in the air. That night was the night.
I carefully fed my soldiers the fitness card they deserve, after all their efforts. As a sign of my gratitude and affection, I took the time to individually feed them one by one, adding the words to motivate each of them, within our special, unbreakable complicity.
I told Giorgio to play simple, in his old days he is not as sharp and quick as he used to be, but his grinta, and his malicious experience would be invaluable in that final doomed battle.
I told Lorenzo and Juan to give all they have, as there may never be a tomorrow. Do it for honor, do it for glory, do it for the memory of everything we have lived together. They looked down, then up, took a deep breath, and put on their shin guards.
I finally walked to Paulo, put my shaking hand on his shoulder, and looking into his pure, truth-revealing blue eyes, I whispered :
"You know what to do..."
The line of a smile drew itself on his juvenile face. He was ready.
The troups aligned as we all entered the Arena. The gods have picked their challenger. They call him DeadHick. He wears the mark of the fallen: a black outfit tainted with the pink blood of his innocent victims. It defiantly reads "FUT Champions". My Captain, Marco, looks at me and nods. We will not back out, he is the one.
The rain outside intensifies, the hands on my weapon tighten their grip despite the moist. If we fall, we fall with grace.
The death judge blows his whistle, and it's on.
After a few minutes, the cursed child with gold hair wraps his foot around the ball and crucifies a hopeless Gianluigi. The enemy is ahead. After a curious celebration that sees DeadHicks soldiers repetitively smell their elbows, the scene of a disastrous start is replayed to its full exte
